Our Most Valuable Peke Person 2009/Picnic

We had a few adoptions at the picnic (who were already approved). Here are Nico and Bao with their new dad! These are two of the nicest Peke boys and I know they'll be wonderful playmates in their new home.
And here is Teddy. His owner now lives in the DC area, so it was easy for her to come to the picnic. Teddy is about 12 now and came to her when his original mom went into a nursing home.
And here is another beauty! Can you see Melanie on the side?
This is Pooh-- I love her coloring!
And each year, we give out a Most Valuable Peke Person award-- this year is was Melanie! She has done an amazing job on the new web site. Melanie and Susan have done all the work on it, and keep it updated for us. Susan also does our newsletter. And they both help with transport, and many other aspects of rescue. (I don't have Susan's picture at the picnic-- maybe I'll get one from someone else.)
Melanie is with me and I'm holding Chance-- I think he was camera shy. Chance is my new foster dog and he's a sweetheart! He's deaf, but is a loving dog who follows me everywhere.
Here's Melanie! Congratulations on being our Most Valuable Peke Person for this year. And thank you for all that you do!

Picnic Pictures-- Round 2:

It was fun to see old friends and new ones at the picnic. Some of the dogs we adopted years ago were there-- I'm always surprised that they get older-- just like me!
And some just took a nap! It was about 90 degrees that day-- we had fans all over, but laying on the cool cement was a good thing to do.

And here was a Pekingese friend who came, too! I think he WANTED to be a Pekingese!

Looks at the different colors of Pekes we had there. Beautiful!

This is Suzy Wonton, from New York. It was a little warm for her. But, she was in the shade and enjoying the attention of all who wanted to meet her.

Willie Wonton was there, too. They came a long way to be at the picnic! We're sure glad they made the trip! It was the first time I was able to meet his parents in person-- just wish I could have talked longer.

There are more pictures from the picnic. I love going through them, and some people have sent me theirs. If you have some, send them on!

Deluxe Award

A friend who reads the Must Love Pekes blog every day sent me this "award." THANK YOU!! We both blog and support each other.

Picnic Pictures- Round 1

There were so many cuties at the picnic!!! Look at this precious face!

This is Shadow's sister, Nico. (Did I spell that right, Barbara and Lara?)

And here is Shadow-- he was one of my foster dogs over four years ago. And his sister, Meng, is beside him. Shadow is such a happy boy! I have more pictures of him that will be posted later.

Here is Chyna-- she was one of Susan's foster dogs. She looks perfectly content and happy to be at the picnic.

Or not. Maybe there are just too many here!

Yes, a lot of us were untangling leashes that day. There were a LOT of Pekingese there. Did anyone count them? (I think over forty Pekes were there.)

And here is Daisy, who now lives in DC. She was just adopted last month. They even brought a wonderful photo album, and had little sayings that Daisy had given them to put in it! It's amazing how smart these dogs are. I loved the scrap book! I wish I had time to do that.

Daisy brought her mom's friend-- and her dog. He was a perfect gentleman the whole time-- so much more polite than some of my dogs that day. What a nice boy.

And here is Daisy again-- I put this picture on twice-- and couldn't get it off. Oh, well, you just get to see if twice.

Daisy is wondering if anything is available to eat. She could smell the hamburgers, hot dogs, potato salad, cole slaw, chips, drinks, dessert. We had quite a spread that day! But, it was all for people-- we did have toys for every dog that came though. Mine were quite happy with those.

Let's Go to the Picnic!

We got up EARLY Saturday morning (5:15 am) so we could go to the Annual Pekingese Picnic. Starlight was all ready-- curled up on her blanket.

Max and Maggie were curled up together, on the other seat. Max wasn't sure WHY we were up so early!

And there is Chance, behind the seat. He has a comfy kennel to get into, with a nice thick pillow-- but he chose this spot.

Max climbed up into my lap so he could see where we were going.

He even "sat pretty" looking at my husband-- but he still wasn't able to drive the van! Beg all you want, Max, but you're not old enough to drive.

Okay, I'll just veg here and watch.

Max is now back with Starlight. They are such good travelers! Chance is curled up in front of him now.
We did a lot of musical seats on the four hour trip to the picnic.

Max couldn't wait to get there!! He knew I was excited-- so he was, too!
Look tomorrow for Picnic Pictures!

Gloria's Pekes

I'll be posting picnic pictures soon, but wanted to show off some of Gloria's Pekes.

This is precious Tinker-Bell.

This is Splish-Splash. Isn't he cute!

Gloria is our club president and she has a passion for these little ones.
She has some show dogs and some rescue dogs of her own. She loves each one of them!!

Picnic!

Suzy is ready to come to the picnic. She is coming from New York City!! Suzy has her bags packed and is ready to get on the road!! Believe it or not for some reason she climbed up there all by herself!!

Willie and her parents are on the way! Willy is ready to go! "Come on Suzy, let's go!"

The Annual Pekingese Picnic is today is N.Va. (see our web site if you can come-- http://www.potomacpekes.org/ ) We bring out foster dogs, our xpens, crates, fans, ice, water dishes and lots of food! We have so much fun. Here are some pictures previous picnics.

And there is sweet Ollie (one of my former foster dogs). Some of the dogs dress up for the event.
This is Sweet Baboo-- one of my former foster dogs-- BEAUTIFUL!!!!
Melanie is holding Brody. Melanie is one of our hardest workers!
Pekes in pens all over!

Pekingese Tug of War

Starlight doesn't usually play with the rest of the dogs. But, she decided to have a tug of war, and Max was ready to play, too.
They are having so much fun-- look at the determination on Starlight's face.
"I won't let go. This is so much fun!"

And neither will Max! He has a firm grip on it.
But, Max DID finally let go, so he could go and pull on the sheet with Maggie. "Do you still have that camera?"
"I'll just ignore the camera. I'm having so much fun. Doesn't she bring sheets down here to wash at least once a week? We could do this again!"
"Maggie, let go!" says Max. Scooter is encouraging Maggie to HOLD ON!
Now they're getting close-- this is serious play!
Maggie is really tugging!
Maggie and Max are such great friends-- and have been all their lives. That's why we want them to stay together-- and it just may be here!! Looks like they're ready to give each other a kiss!

Cocoa Mulch Warning

Click here: snopes.com: Cocoa Mulch Danger to Dogs Please read the warning on Cocoa Mulch. I was watching HGTV last week and one show recomended this mulch as a "green alternative." BUT, it can be very toxic for pets. So, please read the warning.

Max and His Ball

Remember Max and the New Desk? He always has his ball with him.
Well, almost always. Sometimes, he does need to take a break!
But, most of the time, it's right there in his mouth! He has yellow ones, green ones, reed ones-- he doesn't care what color they are.

Max is toy aggressive. If he has a ball, it's his. If another dog has a ball, it's still his. He will just take the toy, wag his tail and trot off. Max just took the tennis ball from Starlight-- she almost NEVER plays with a tennis ball. BOY, she let out a fuss! From the below the desk area haha. Even though Max is toy aggressive, but no one will challenge him which is GREAT. No one here cares-- except Starlight. Starlight just yells at the injustice of it! And she came to me to let me know just how unfair it was! She is now behind me on the chair. Poor Starlight.
And of course, the balls all get washed. Sometimes, in a big soapy container of water. And sometimes, I just throw them in the washing machine with the rest of the toys and towels and dog blankets. Have to keep some of the germs at bay!

Pet Food Warning

I just received this warning-- it is from Consumer Affairs about Nutro Dog Food. Just read and see if your pet is on one of these foods. http://www.consumeraffairs.com/news04/2009/04/nutro_foia.html

LuLu and the Mirror

LuLuBelle's mom sends me updates on LuLu and her friends. LuLu is moving to California soon.
Look at her posing for a picture!
Here she is with Taco, one of the Chihuahuas that now lives there (rescued from a backyard breeder.)
Of course, we have to have Nubby on-- one of my FAVORITES!!
And here is Princess LuLu posing in front of the mirror. She was sitting there and it was a perfect picture! Her mom said, "You will love the one of Lulu admiring herself in the mirror! It was not rehearsed, I was taking that picture for today's blog and she simply would not move, I guess my little Lu knew what she was doing."
I know even when she moves to California, I'll still have updates and pictures. I love it!

Sasha and Sienna

I wanted to put this warning up for those who use flea medications. I would ONLY use flea medications that you get from your vet-- over the counter (drugstore, grocery store) products may cause serious injury to your pets.
Click here: Flea Medications Injure 44,000 Pets - Pawnation
+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
This is Sasha. She came into rescue with Sienna. They were in a shelter and no one claimed them. Both girls are 7-8 years old and around 11.5 pounds.
Sienna just has one eye, so she likes to be carried up and down stairs. And Sasha is so low to the ground, she simply can't navigate stairs! :-)
Sasha had EIGHT bladder stones removed from her bladder and one stone removed from her stomach (I had a Peke who ate a rock -- costs me a fortune! I was going to have it mounted and put it on a necklace, which my daughter thought was disgusting. My rationale was that it costs me more than more necklaces I wore! But, I didn't do it. It sure would have been a a good story though!)
Sienna and Sasha are very sweet girls. We would love to keep them together, but as long as they are loved, they'll be fine.
After a long day, it's nice to just take a nap. With love and food and care, they are both very content!

Nico and Lucy

This is Nico, one of our foster dogs. (www.potomacpekes.org)
Look at how happy he is!
This is Nico-- one of our foster dogs. He is here with his foster mom. She is one of our newest foster moms and she does an incredible job with them. Thank you, Mallory!!
We have a few applications for him. But, we want to make sure he has a friend in his new home. Some of our foster dogs do well alone, relishing being the prince or princess. But, some really love having a playmate!
This is at Nico's vet visit. He was turned into a shelter by his family-- why?? He is precious!
He loves his foster sister, Lucy the lab. They LOVE to play! And after a long day, they are both tired and just climb on the couch for a nap.
This is contentment! For Pekes and humans alike.

Lotus Blossom and Thomas

This is Lotus Blossom, on the left, our newest foster dog. She is posing with Thomas, her foster brother. (Thomas belongs to Lotus' foster mom.)
Lotus is adorable, small, and LOVES everyone!! We may already have a home for her.
Lotus is only about a year and a half old. She is a little love.

Dry Clean Only

I saw this and thought it was adorable!!

Max and the New Desk/update on Chance

UPDATE ON CHANCE: CHANCE, MY NEW FOSTER DOG IS A SWEETHEART. Here he is with my granddaughter.
CHANCE GOES IN FOR SURGERY ON MONDAY FOR NEUTER AND DENTAL. HE WILL ALSO HAVE AN EAR VIDEOSCOPE-- BECAUSE I HAVE REALIZED CHANCE IS DEAF. WE WANT TO SEE WHAT THE PROBLEM IS, AND HOPEFULLY WE CAN HELP HIM. HE IS PRECIOUS, FOLLOWS ME EVERYWHERE AND IS HOUSETRAINED!!! (I LOVE IT WHEN THEY ARE HOUSETRAINED! HAHA) I'LL UPDATE YOU ON HOW HE DOES.
++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
I have a new desk! I've been looking for an old office desk for years-- and I found one at an estate sale. It's huge-- three feet by five feet. It has lots of deep drawers and two pull out work spaces. It's oak and I am thrilled with it.
It's pretty from all sides! (That's my big "sun" lamp that I use in the winter. If any of you have SAD (seasonal affective disorder), this light really works!
Max also likes my new desk.
It's a great place to get under and chew on your ball.
And pushing the ball away.
And a little further.
And a little more.
He got up to get it. Now he's a happy boy-- Max and his mini tennis ball are never far apart!

Maggie and the English Ivy

I told you in a previous post that Maggie loved having a tug of war with the English Ivy.
I've been cleaning out the leaves, so the ivy is separated and pulled apart-- and Maggie is sure there are critters under there!
We do have voles and moles-- blah! So, she is probably hearing them and is determined to find them!

So, she sniffs and digs and buries her face in the ivy, as close to the ground as she can get so she can hear them.
I think she hears one-- can she see it??
This is hard work-- she is breathing hard now! Time to take a break.
She is asking me for help-- believe me, Maggie, if I could find those critters I would-- and I'd send them packing!
Really, Mom. You can't get them either??
She's gone over to another location-- maybe she'll have better luck here.
I'll just sit here a minute-- maybe they'll come to me.
And now, she's inside-- ready for a nap. Looking for critters is such hard work!

RICKY COMES FOR A PLAY DAY

Ricky was one of my former foster dogs and he now lives down the street. Sometimes, he comes for a play day. He and Scooterbug are great friends.
Ricky is checking out the new path I put in to the lower part of the yard.

I think he likes it-- dogs seem to like pathways! They use one by the front fence, and one that is now at the back by the water area we have.
Scooterbug and Ricky are having a deep conversation!
But, there is more to the yard than the stones.
He goes to explore.
Oh, yes, the Pekingese Lounger-- a favorite here. Sometimes, I put two of them end to end and we have all the dogs up there.
But, today, Ricky is there by himself. The rest are off on their own adventures.
"Oh, I love play days!!" says Ricky.
And now I'm off to another adventure!!

Shadow Muffin

We have some beautiful new dogs in rescue. Pictures will come soon to the blog. Some are already posted on our web site. I just got one in yesterday-- he's pretty sick, but already making headway! He is under 13 pounds, and I named him Chance. Here he is. He seems to be very sweet!! I love him already!!
++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
Shadow Muffin was one of my foster dogs over four years ago! Here we are in the back yard while he was with me. He was a sick dog when I got him, but after surgery and lots of care and love, he was a healthy boy.
Shadow still loves the snow! Here he is with Nike and Meng Tzu (the Peke). Meng Tzu and Shadow were adopted at the same time.

And here he is in the snow, making tracks and paths! The snow is gone now and all the dogs are ready for spring!

Shadow and Meng and ready for warm weather-- even though the snow is a LOT of fun!!

Shadow is also ready to eat! He LOVES to eat!

What a sweet boy!

Pollyanna, Shadow, and the Pink Bed

Do you remember Suzy Wonton's pink bed? Well, now Pollyanna has one. Her mom got it for her when she moved to their home. They have five dog beds and three dogs-- sounds fine to me! But, of course, ALL the dogs wants the pink bed!
Anniebelle is the beautiful 12 year old black Peke. She is now Pollyanna's older sister. She loves the pink bed!
And here is Shadow in the bed. Anniebelle wants it back! Shadow is 14 months old and looks just like Pollyanna aside from the 7 pound weight difference. (And in a Peke, that's a big difference!!)
Pollyanna finally got to get in her new bed with her duck close by. She has that duck everywhere she goes. She brought the duck from her foster home- she is rarely without it.
Pollyanna and Shadow are in their most favorite place of all - outside! Now you can see how much smaller Pollyanna is. She loves him dearly! And he loves her!

Gracie at Easter

Gracie received Easter presents from her New York friends, Willie and Suzy!!!
And Gracie wrote me an email to tell me about it. I know you all are aware that Pekingese can send emails!!
Hi Linda it's me, Gracie and I got a present today from Willy and Suzy, all the way from New York. I don't know where that is. Do you? My Mom said it is far away from here. I got an Easter card for a special girl and it had my name on it and I got a yellow duck and a package of treats and the mail man brought it. Isn't that fun???
My Mom said that I could write them a thank you but I wanted to tell you first because you put me and my Mom together almost a year ago.
I sent Wilson one of my treats cause he's a good friend and I may give Bodie one cause he's at his Grandmother's while his Mom is in Florida on Spring Break. That's what my Mom said. I don't know what Spring Break is or where Florida is but I am glad Bodie is here. We play. I hope that Starlight, Scooter, Cranberry, Max and Maggie all have a fun time at Easter and that you and Matt have a really special day. My Mom said tell Matt that she is so pleased that his Daddy is better.
Gotta go somebody is walking down the street and I had better go check.
Love and slobbery kisses
GRACIE

Willie and Suzy at Easter

I love the azaleas blooming now. Maggie is checking out the flowers.
Look at these beautiful mini-azaleas.
And more...
Willie and Oona, the cat, are getting ready for Easter by taking a nap with their Grandmom. I think Willie wins for most comfortable!!
Willy Wonton and Suzy Q have been anxiously awaiting the arrival of the Easter Bunny! I think they are hoping to get some fun treats in their Easter baskets! Since the weather was so lovely this past weekend, the they thought it would be good opportunity to welcome the Easter Bunny properly!
So Willy put on his bunny ears -- doesn't he make a convincing "Peke Bunny"? Uh oh, Willy seems to be having second thoughts about his ears -- "Do I look silly mom? Wait dad, I am not sure I want so many photos taken..."
Suzy put on her petals and transformed herself into a "Spring Blossom" to welcome the new season! Here she is welcoming Spring with her lovely sunny smile!
"Hey Suzy Q, let's just hang out here in the nice warm sunshine and enjoy the arrival of Easter!"
Love, Willy Wonton and Suzy Q, ("The NY Pekes")

Darby and Friends

Darby is one of our Richmond Pekes. Here is a picture of her "grandparents" with Sakks, Darby's sister Shih Tzu. They love her and all 3 very much. Darby's grandmom even has a thing on her car that says, " I love my granddogs."
Here is the infamous Darby! Darby was adopted by her foster mom in Richmond. Look at that face!!
She loves her chewsticks.
Darby had been outside playing and she needed to come and take a nap in her bed -
She loves to have her picture taken. She has done so well and has her summer cut now.
Like most Pekes, she has her choice of beds!! Any will do when it's time for a nap!

BEFORE I WAS A DOG MOM...

BEFORE I WAS A DOG MOM.......
Before I was a Dog Mom: I cleaned my house everyday, I never tripped over toys, stuffies, chewies, or invited the neighbor's dog over to play. My living room didn't have to be blocked off so the Pekes couldn't go in there. Cranberry gets to visit the living room, where she can be like Greta Garbo and have "time alone!"
Before I was a Dog Mom: I could lay in the hammock without interruption! I could listen to the water flowing behind our house without dogs barking, giving kisses, smothering me with love. It's hard not to laugh when you have dogs all over you!
Before I was a Dog Mom: I could sit on the floor in front of the fireplace without being stared at by lots of Pekingese.
Before I was a Dog Mom: I made and ate hot meals uninterrupted; I had unstained, unfurred clothes; I had quiet conversations on the phone, even if the doorbell rang. (Scooter doesn't care if I have quiet phone conversations!)
Before I was a Dog Mom: I slept as late as I wanted and never worried about how late I got to bed . . . or if I could get into my bed.
Before I was a Dog Mom: I didn't worry if my plants, cleansers, plastic bags, toilet paper, soap or deodorant were poisonous or dangerous. (Maggie was actually playing tug of war with some English Ivy! Now I need to research that plant!) Max loves the yard--
Before I was a Dog Mom: I had never been peed on, pooped on, drooled on, chewed on, or pinched by puppy teeth.
Before I was a Dog Mom: I had complete control of my thoughts, my body and my mind. I slept all night without sharing the covers or pillow. I could lay on the couch BY MYSELF.

Before I was a Dog Mom: I never looked into big, soulful eyes and cried. I never felt my heart break into a million pieces when I couldn't stop a hurt. I never knew something so furry and four-legged could affect my heart so deeply.
Before I was a Dog Mom: I had never held a sleeping puppy just because I couldn't put it down. I had never gotten up in the middle of the night every 10 minutes to make sure all was well. I didn't know how warm it feels inside to feed a hungry puppy. I didn't know that something so small could make me feel so important.
Before I was a Dog Mom: I had never known the warmth, the joy, the love, the heartache, the wonderment, or the satisfaction of being.....

Retractable Leashes

I wanted to post this report on the retractable leashes from Consumer Reports. I checked it out and it appears to be true. I know a lot of people love these leashes, but I've always had trouble with them. I have had a tendency to grab them when the dog gets too far (instead of using the leash controls to do that) and I've had "rope burns" on my hand. I'd rather post this and be on the safe side.

Heather Todd didn’t bring a leash with her the day she took her pooch Penny to a pond near Boston in 2005. So she borrowed a retractable dog leash to help keep her Labrador retriever in check. But it didn’t. The 90-pound dog suddenly took off running and dragged Todd across the sand.

When she came to a stop and recovered her wits, she spotted something lying on the sand. With horror, she realized it was a human index finger; with greater horror, she realized it was her own. The cord of the retractable leash had looped around her finger and pulled taut when Penny bolted.

“It just cut it off like a sharp knife,” Todd says. She wrapped her hand in a towel, grabbed the finger, and headed to the hospital, but doctors were unable to reattach it. Todd, who’s now in nursing school, says there are times when her missing finger causes problems. “I get by. You just adjust,” she says.

Todd’s story may sound like a freak accident, but retractable leashes are responsible for a surprising number of injuries each year, including amputations. In 2007 there were 16,564 hospital-treated injuries associated with leashes, according to Consumer Union's analysis of statistics collected by the Consumer Product Safety Commission. Of those, about 10.5 percent involved children 10 and younger; 23.5 percent involved injuries to the finger. The CPSC's data does not parse the leashes into types but it's likely that the amputations were caused by retractable leashes.

The most common injuries reported were burns and cuts, usually sustained when the cord came in contact with skin as it rapidly paid out from the handle of a leash. Others occurred when the cord got wrapped around part of the owner or the dog. Todd sued the maker of the leash as well as the distributor, as have others who have been injured by retractable leashes. Todd told us that the company settled her case for an undisclosed amount. Retractable-leash makers do put some pretty stark warnings about their products on their Web sites and on the packaging. Germany-based Flexi, one of the largest manufacturers of the leashes, has a long page of warnings on it Web site. Here’s how it begins:
“To avoid the risk of eye or face injury and cuts, burns, and amputations to your body or the body of another person from the leash cord/tape or all belt and hook, (sic) read and follow these Warnings and Directions for Use before using your Flexi leash.”

LuLu Belle, Bambi Belle, Taco, and Nubby

TODAY IS MY MOM'S BIRTHDAY-- SHE'S IN HEAVEN, BUT I STILL WANT TO SAY HAPPY BIRTHDAY MOM!!! I LOVE YOU! ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
Look at these sweet Chihuahuas. I know they're not Pekes, but they have a Peke sister!!
I had the blessing of being able to visit with one of my adoptive families today. They are incredible dog owners and I loved having time with them. They are one of those families that you just love to be around-- the sweetness in the home is evident. They have such a passion for their pets. And I drank a cup of the best expresso coffee I've ever had. Thanks Jason!!
This is LuLu Belle. You've seen her before-- look at those beautiful long ears. She is a small Peke, just about 8-9 pounds. She was one of my foster dogs, and so precious. When I visited her before, she wouldn't have anything to do with me! I wonder if she thought I was taking her back. This time, though, she came to me and let me pet her. I felt so special!

Here she is with Taco. He was rescued by Fran from a back yard breeder who was "done with him." He was just going to be dropped off at the shelter. Instead, he has a wonderful home now. He is such a sweetheart! He is the one who will bring pieces of food to his girls, LuLu and Nubby.

They both look like they're getting a good rub/scratch! So cute to have them both looking up.

This is sweet Bambi Belle. She was rescued later from the same place! She has been with them a month now and has come from a timid, hiding-under-the-table dog to one who wants to play. She is still a little timid, but she's come so far. I know she'll blossom under their care.

And here's Nubby!! I LOVE NUBBY!! I didn't mind that she wanted to be in my lap too. I fell in love with this dog when I did the home check. What a sweetheart!!

TAco has a secret to tell Nubby. :-)

Taco is looking right into my heart! LuLu is gazing at her mom. Nubby is looking at something-- I'm not sure what. I think she knew I was trying to get her picture.

Now she's looking!!

And here are three of them-- Bambi was on the chair. One of these days, Fran will get all four in one picture!!

Thank you for a wonderful visit!!

The Happy Dog's Bedtime Prayer

The Happy Dog's Bedtime Prayer

Now I lay me down to sleep,

The queen-size bed is soft and deep.

I sleep right in the center groove.

My human being can hardly move!

I've trapped her legs, she's tucked in tight,

And here is where I pass the night.

No one disturbs me or dares intrude

Till morning comes and I want food!

I sneak up slowly and it begins.

My nibbles on my human's chin.

She wakes up slowly and smiles and shouts,

"You darling beast! Just cut it out!"

But morning's here and it's time to play

I always seem to get my way.

So thank you, Lord, for giving me

This human person that I see.

The one who hugs and holds me tight and shares her bed with me at night!

Spring in Virginia

I love the spring! The trees start to get their initial blooms before turning green. I drove around to get pictures-- people probably wondered why I taking pictures in front of their house! (We explained.) I don't have these dogwoods or ornamental pears at my home, so I had to find others.
Isn't this gorgeous!
And this one! Stunning.
The ornamental pear trees are the prettiest in spring. And guess what-- they never have pears!
It was a good day to clean the yard. We have a little water behind our house (I showed you that before--the Feb. 28 blog) and it really needed cleaning out after a winter of a lot of wind blowing things down. I put on my high boots and got out there with a long sleeve shirt and gloves. My husband and I had a blast! (He probably disagrees.)
Max encouraged us while we worked! And he loved one area where we removed a lot because now he can see the water better there. He has the whole fence line to look out, but he chose one particular spot to be his favorite.
Scooter is checking out the newly cleared areas.
We cut down some small trees that were dead and tried to build up some areas that needed help. Like a beaver building a dam!
Scooter and Cranberry wonder where all the limbs went. They cheered us on while we worked!
And then Cranberry said, "enough" and headed back to the house!

Pollyanna In Her New Home

Remember Pollyanna. She had the burns on her back when I brought her into rescue. After much time, medicine and love, Pollyanna began to turn around and become happy and healthy. (THANK YOU to Shanyn, her foster mom!) Then, Pollyanna had her heartworm treatment and they had to shave her back for that. (I'll be doing a blog on that soon.) And it made her scars apparent-- but they're only on her back, not in her spirit! And her hair will grow and cover them up again.
Her new mom went to the store to see if they had the duck that Pollyanna loves so much and has with her all the time. After all, Easter is coming. They had the same type of stuffed animal, same outfit, same size and softness...but it was a bunny not a duck. Okay, bunnies are more popular this time of year.
Here's Pollyanna with her duck AND her new best friend, Shadow! Shadow is a big teddy bear. He is such a man in all ways. His personality is so different from Polly’s. Pollyanna is a priss. She prances around and loves to cuddle. She likes to watch all that is going on.. Shadow is a rough and tumble guy. But, they are still best friends!!
And here are Anniebelle, who is older, Shadow and Pollyanna. These are three spoiled puppies-- and how right that is! It took Pollyanna a few days to settle in, but then she became part of the family and they all adore her.
Here's Shadow-- he and Pollyanna look so much alike!
And here's Pollyanna! I think she's had enough of picture taking that day!

Gracie Makes A Bed

Gracie's mom had the sheets all folded and ready to be put in the linen closet. Gracie had other ideas! Her mom spoke to her about this.
And Gracie ignored her! "I'm just resting, Mom."
"You woke me up."
"So, I'm going back to sleep." And there she goes!

Tom the English Peke

Remember the English Pekes? Well, they have new siblings-- Jack and Jill. These two cats THINK they are Pekingese. After all, they live with Pekes, so they must be Pekes also. Right!?
Remember Sir Rupert from England. He's a beautiful Peke-- absolutely stunning!
But, Sir Rupert wants nothing to do with being shown. He doesn't behave. Sir Rupert hasn't had a good day unless he and his litter brother Oliver have been at war with each other, yet they are great buddies and all three dogs love Katie, their older Peke sister who is 11 years old.
Here is Tom. Tom never fights with anyone.
He loves to go to shows. He is very behaved and does just what he's supposed to do. Sir Rupert is perfectly content not to have any award-- he lets Tom bring them home!
Their mom, Rita, says the weather in England is warming up and she's also out in her garden getting things cleaned up. I wonder if her Pekes are at the door watching her, too!
