YOU'LL ALWAYS BE MINE--GUS ADOPTED!

There I sat, alone and afraid, you got a call and came right to my aid.  (Gus came into rescue a year ago.)
You bundled me up with blankets and love.   (Gus was in terrible condition when we got him-- he was with Jeanne, an incredible friend and foster mom.)
And, when I needed it most, you gave me a hug.  (Gus was dreaming of his forever home last Christmas.  He had waited a long time.)
I learned that the world was not all that scary and cold.
That sometimes there is someone to have and to hold.   (Gus met his new mom-- I feel like I know her because we have been in contact for quite awhile.   I feel like she is already a good friend!)
You taught me what love is, you helped me to mend.
You loved me and healed me and became my first friend.  (I love this look on love on Gus' new mom's face.   Gus is loved by so many of us in rescue.   He is a very special boy.)
And just when I thought you'd done all you do, there came along not one new lesson, but two.
First you said, "Sweetheart, you're ready to go. I've done all I can, and you've learned all I know." (Jeanne, was so attached to this sweet boy-- it's hard to let them go.)
Then you bundled me up with a blanket and kiss.
Along came a new family, they will love me I know.
They took me to their home, forever to stay.
At first I thought you sent me away.
Then that second lesson became perfectly clear.
No matter how far, you will always be near.
And so, Foster Mom, you know I've moved on.
I have a new home, with toys and a mom.
But I'll never forget what I learned that first day.
You never really give your fosters away.
You gave me these thoughts to remember you by.
We may never meet again, and now I know why.
You'll remember I lived with you for a time.
I may not be yours, but you'll always be mine. - Author Unknown
JEANNE, THANK YOU FOR HELPING, HEALING, AND LOVING GUS-- WE ALL FELL IN LOVE WITH HIM BECAUSE YOU LET US KNOW HIM, TOO.   HE WILL ALWAYS BE IN YOUR HEART!

LOOK ALIKES?

Koko is one of my beautiful foster dogs.   She is so pretty, unusual coloring of black and white.   Small, loving, and can be "bossy pants" occasionally.    Loves to toss toys around and roll around on her back.
You all know sweet Lexie.   I love her multi-coloring.  And the tongue-- ready to kiss me!   They are both here,  and even though Lexie is on medical hold, Koko is waiting for a forever home.
My friend, Elizabeth, owns their look-alikes!    Rosa Lee and Oliver look like Koko and Lexie's twins!   Wow, it's like seeing double.   There are SO  many cute Pekes around!   If Elizabeth and I get together, we may get these all mixed up!

SCOOBY

Scooby, on the left, is a 3 year old, 15 pound Pekingese.   A friend of mine (who has adopted several Pekes from us and who has fostered several) said this boy needed help.   He had been through several homes and she offered to foster him.   Scooby is a very sweet 15 pound, energetic little boy.   He gets along great with other dogs and would love to have a forever home.     I'll have more pictures soon of him!
Princeton, Kim's boy (adopted from us) is a little miffed.  But, he's getting used to the new boy.    Pretty soon, they will be best friends!

Look at Dawson run- Grab that toy, Dollar!
Dawson got it!
And he is tired!    Need a drink?
No, he wants to keep playing.
I LOVE these action pictures!  Dawson, you are just so cute!

ONSLOW AND THE SNACK BOWL CHALLENGE

Have you heard of the Snack Bowl Challenge?    Well, it's on facebook (sorry, you can't see it Melinda!).
The purpose is NOT to dump ice on your pet.    (Boy, would that upset a few of mine!)
The goal is to raise money for your favorite rescue.
You "shower" your pet or pets with treats or their special food.     And you can also send a donation to the rescue of your choice.
Today, Onslow accepted the challenge!!  YUM!
 He found another cookie!
I am going to do this with a few of mine-- when I get a moment!  (I have been helping my daughter move across the street, and have been BUSY!!  More than usual.)   So, send me pictures and/or videos of your Snack Bowl Challenge!    We hope this raises a lot of money to help our foster dogs.

MONICA'S PRECIOUS PEKES

Monica's Pekes are so cute.  Phoebe, Hannah and Leo are sacked out.   I LOVE their beds!
This picture has been made by a program we have been using for some of our web site pictures.   http://photomania.net/  Try it with some of your photos.  There are all kinds of fun things you can do to the picture.
Here it is in regular form.   Phoebe and Hannah are such good friends.
Hannah has had enough posing, and she's taking her toy and going inside.
One more picture!    Aren't they cute!   Mark Peters did this one-- It's a beautiful trio!

SENIOR PEKE

This older Peke was found in Richmond and a friendly person took him in.
They asked us if we could take him-- but where to put him?     Adoptions are low, and it is this way for many rescues.   It means it is hard to help another when we just have no space.
He has been bathed and had curling nails cut back.   He is sweet, and loving and gets along with the dogs where he is temporarily.
He just wants a home-- he wants to be safe.  He doesn't even have a name yet.   Can you help?

PEPPER ANN

Pepper Ann came into rescue in May.   She was at a shelter in Harrisonburg and they asked if we would help her.
She was turned in by her owner-- and hadn't been well cared for.    She is now-- look at her little blanket, all curled up on it.
She loves her foster home-- here she is with her Peke sister, Daisy.  They look like twins!
It was bath day-- oh, no.   She was very good, though!
She seems so calm, but she was glad it was over, so that she could...
 Roll on the grass again.
She is about ten years old and a wonderful, loving, sweet little girl!  If you would like to adopt her, just let us know.   potomacpekes@gmail.com

PEKABOO

Pekaboo is the beloved Peke of a friend of mine.    She is almost ten years old.  I met her when she adopted one of my wonderful foster dogs named Stitch.
She loves to wander around her yard and play with her three human kids.
Pekaboo has been diagnosed with a heart issue.   She has a heart murmur, which is not unusual as they get older.  But, she also has a thickening of her mitral valve.    In people, surgery can be done, but not in dogs.
She is on medication and we hope she will live a long time!

Take it easy little girl.   We want you to continue mothering your kids for a  long time!

KOKO FINDS THE TOYS

Koko has been with me since March-- she'd love her own home.    She would love to be the princess.
She does have a seizure disorder, but hasn't had a seizure for months now.  She is on phenobarbital and potassium bromide.    Her medications cost about $40 a month at the most I think.
She has discovered toys and now will grab them, throw them and race around.
 Get that green bone!
Wait, what happened?   Did Max, the toy stealer, take your toy?  I bet he did!
Oh, don't give up-- we have hundreds of toys here!
Lexie has also decided toys are fun-- I took this with my cell phone and she was hiding out from my dangerous phone.    She is a sweetheart!    If you are interested in adopting Koko, just let me know.   email me at haveninhim@aol.com.
