If A Dog Was A Teacher..

If a dog was the teacher you would learn stuff like:

When loved ones come home, always run to greet them.
Never pass up the opportunity to go for a joyride. (Grant)
Allow the experience of fresh air and the wind in your face to be pure ecstasy. (Wicket)
When it's in your best interest, practice obedience. Eat with gusto and enthusiasm. Stop when you have had enough. (Pearl)
Let others know when they've invaded your territory. (Starlight)
Take naps. Stretch before rising. Run, romp, and play daily. (Scooterbug)
Thrive on attention and let people touch you. Avoid biting when a simple growl will do. (Benny)
On warm days, stop to lie on your back in the grass. On hot days, drink lots of water and lie under a shady tree. (Clarence)
When you're happy, dance around and wag your entire body. No matter how often you're scolded, don't buy into the guilt thing and pout . (Sassy-Belle)
Run right back and make friends. Delight in the simple joy of a long walk. (Campbell)
Be loyal. Never pretend to be something you're not. If what you want lies buried, dig until you find it. When someone is having a bad day, be silent, sit close by and nuzzle them gently. (Smoke)
We can learn a lot from dogs!

Diane's Pekes-- Part Two!

Here are more pictures of Diane's dog-- I couldn't resist sharing more of them.
This is known as Pantyhose Tag-- they have a pair of Diane's pantyhose and took it out into the yard. Yes, dogs do this! I have one dog who pushed one of my under clothes off the edge of the balcony-- I came home and there it was for all to see! Dogs do the funniest things.
Here's Punkin again. I think they wonder why we take so many pictures-- but how can we resist when they're so photogenic.

This is sweet Megan. I have a daughter named Meghann-- different spelling. I love the name! I love my other daughter's name, too-- Molly!!! :-) Don't want her to feel slighted! (My husband's name is Matt-- sounds like we were on an "M" roll, doesn't it! Wasn't planned at all!)
What a sweet face!
This one is called "Group Meeting!" All three had nailed a dragonfly-- and then didn't know what to do with it. I think I'll call it "Fluffy Butts." That's all you can see!
The top picture is Diane's dad with Maxxie and his mom Punkin. Megan couldn't stand it, so she came over to get some attention, too.
I know some of the pictures are "off-kilter" since I'm learning this scanning thing. I know, come into the 21st century, Linda. I'll get there. But, I don't think I'll ever twitter-- haha

Diane's Pekes

Diane, who just adopted Campbell, gave me some picturesof her previous Pekes who have crossed the Rainbow Bridge. They were REAL pictures-- not downloads. I even learned to use the scanner on my computer-- aren't you proud of me! :-)
This is Punkin the Mom. She looks a lot like Campbell. She has such a pretty mask.
And this is Punkin's son, Maxxie- I love the little tilt of his head-- He was a beautiful boy with a wonderful temperament.
And here is the trio: Punkin, Megan, and Maxxie. Megan and Maxxie were litter mates to Mom Punkin.
Here are Megan and Maxxie on the couch. Why is it that Pekes love the couch so much. They were so loved by Diane.
Now, doesn't this just look like kids! Maxxie and Megan are up on the coffee table and their mom, Punkin, is probably trying to get them off the coffee table, but they are intent on posing for Diane. I've had dogs on tables before, too!
And here's one last pose of Megan. I don't know why I'm so drawn to the tilting head look. It's just precious-- that's why!
Thanks for sharing Diane! Enjoy your new boy!

Campbell and His New Mom

Here's Campbell. He was abandoned to an animal shelter by his owner-- he's not even two years old! And SWEET!!
One of our Peke lovers fell in love with him at first sight!
She went to meet him, and Campbell fell in love with her! He went right to her for love and snuggles.
He even gave her a kiss- something he hadn't done with his foster mom.
He seemed quite content in her lap, knowing he was "HOME." When they got home, he even played peke-a-boo with her with a blanket. It's funny how some just know who their mom is going to be-- and Campbell is one of those Pekes. His mom emailed me and said, "HE'S PERFECT!"

We're so glad he found a loving place to live his life.

Pat's Josie

Josie's owner emailed me and said to thank all of you who have posted notes on this blog to give your sympathy and love. Here's what she said: "Thank you for putting Josie on your Blog and I appreciate all of the comments that have been posted. We are still having a hard time with this one. I guess losing 3 in 8 months is a hard blow to take. Thank you and everyone for all of your thoughts and prayers for Josie and us. Pat"
Again, we are so sorry for their loss.
++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
This precious Peke puppy is Josie.
These were taken fourteen years ago, when Josie was an adorable Pekingese puppy.
The black ones are so beautiful-- I know, I saw that about all of them!
It is with great sadness that Pat let us know that Josie died this week. She had had major breathing issues, and had surgery in 2001 for laryngeal paralysis. She had eight more years after the surgery. Josie gave her family almost fifteen years of pure pleasure. She was a sweet, loving and beautiful girl. She fought hard through the years to live. Even though she had so many health issues, she remained a sweet girl. She loved everyone.
She is now sleeping with the angels and is with BJ and Molly.
We know how difficult it is to lose our Peke family members and I extend our sympathy from the Peke family to Pat, Joyce, and Glenna.

Asher-Amos Peke for a Day

This is Asher, now Amos. He was in a shelter near me and my daughter visited him.
He was an older gentleman, incredibly sweet. He was at the shelter 6 weeks and his time for just about up. They kept him longer than most that weren't adopted because of his nice temperament.
So many people won't adopt the older ones. But, they are wonderful! (We have a few older Pekes in rescue-- they are the best!) So, my daughter tried to find him a home.
And she found him one! So, I got to go to the shelter and pick him up. All my crates are smaller but I did find one he could fit in-- not for the long haul, but fine for going from the shelter to my house.
My Pekes were all behind the baby gate so I could bathe Amos and get to know him a little. He was so sweet. He found one of Max's tennis ball and kept bouncing it himself and running to get it. I threw it for him, too. Above, he's looking at a Peke size water dish--
He came to me with his ball! Max said he could have the ball to go to his new home.
And we were off! He was going to live in Charlottesville. We had taken him to the vet and we paid to have him checked out. I told the vet (who knows me well), "how much can I get for free." He wasn't surprised at all!
Amos was determined to stand the entire way to meet his new mom. I told him he could lay down on the nice blanket I put in there for him, Or he could get a drink from the water bowl.
He was trying so hard to help me, to encourage me on the trip. But, he was falling asleep on his feet! He leaned into my seat for a little support.
He finally gave up and decided to rest. He needed energy for this new adventure he was beginning.
And here he is with his new mom! She says Amos is the perfect dog. He gets lots of walks and attention and love. He now has a wonderful life. Thank you, Molly, for saving Amos! He was happy to be a "Peke for a day" at my house, but he happier being the dog he was always meant to be!

Sienna and Sasha

If you just want to grin, check out this site. I just smiled all the way through it!

SASHA AND SIENNA
Remember Sienna and Sasha? Here they are when we got them into rescue. They had to be completely shaved down.
And here they are now! Look at the difference!
Sasha and Sienna were found wandering the streets together near Richmond. They are very attached to one another and we've made a special low fee to adopt them both.
Sienna is timid with new people. She loves snuggle on couch and she has this very cute habit of carrying a toy everywhere she goes. And look at her run!! Life is so wonderful now!
She looks so incredibly happy and beautiful.
She loves treats and seems to understand that she is supposed to go potty outside.
And here is sweet Sasha. Sasha is laid back and doesn't seem to be scared of anything. She appears to have some weakness and lack of coordination in her back legs. She has trouble walking on linoleum and cannot go up and down steps.
All of her teeth had to be removed so now her little tongue sticks out. We also had a hernia repaired. Sasha has a slight heart murmur but seems to get along fine. Sasha's foster mom said she is just as sweet as can be and loves to be held, her little tail just wags and wags when she is picked up and squeezed.

If you are interested in these two precious girls, email haveninhim@aol.com or brev498@aol.com . Their adoption fee together is $250.

Ollie and Buffy in August

Here's Ollie and Buffy again. I LOVE to receive pictures of our adopted dogs. Ollie was one of my foster dogs and Buffy was fostered in N.Va. They are both adored by their new family.
And they have become best friends. Sometimes, Buffy will lay her head on Ollie just to know he's close. They are both incredibly good with children and adults. They are both doing great and love each other more and more. I think these two were meant for each other.
Here is Buffy being precious! She obviously adoringly watching her dad just before his retirement party. She loves the backyard picnics because she gets lots of laps but her foster mom email everyone and tell them not to feed Ollie & Buffy. She does not want to take a chance of them getting something they should not have and everyone is very good about that.
Buffi's owner's nephew came by here on his way from Philidelphia to Duke University and Buffy and Ollie would not leave his side.
Buffy also lets her owners know when the deer are in the backyard. She starts growling and barking.
I think this deer spotted Buffy!! Is he afraid??
Buffy loves to nip at Ollie's ears and legs whenever anyone trys to pet Ollie and if he gets in someone's laps she is right there trying to jump up also but her legs are just too short. They are doing wonderful together.

Thanks for sharing more pictures of these wonderful Pekes!!
