KIPPER, MADGE, AND MIMI

Desi's friend, Kipper, is all dressed up for Halloween.  He is not happy about being made to wear this costume.    I can hear him saying, "Oh, Brother."  :-)  But, he makes a cute scary monster.
One costume wasn't enough, he has two.  Here he is a spider!!
Little Mimi wore a simple but elegant costume of pearls.
Her friend, Desi (Diva Desi) was mortified that Mimi was content with this simple beauty.
Mimi posed with Madge before her photo op.   Madge came into rescue heartworm positive and gets her first main treatment this week.  (She had to have a month of special antibiotics first.)
And here she is!   Isn't she cute!!
 I love her bumblebee costume.
I'm not sure she likes it as much as I do-- but that's okay.   She's adorable!

FAREWELL TONY

We rescued Tony from a shelter in early September.  If you remember, he was turned in when his owner was told he could no longer keep him at his assisted living facility.     But, he could, and we were able to reunite them.   We kept our name with the assisted living manager so that we could be called in emergency.
Tony began having seizures over the week-end.   His owner called us for help after using all his resources to help him.    We got Tony to the vet where he began to seize and go into cardiac arrest.    He came out of it, but was not doing well and he was in great pain.    It appeared he had some brain damage from the seizures over the week-end and it was time to let him go.    His owner was so upset and Toni, his foster mom in rescue, who was there, was very distressed, too.    I was able to hold Tony in the back while he crossed the Rainbow Bridge.   I petted him, kissed him, and told him how much his daddy loved him.  (The owner didn't feel he could hold him, so he said I could.) The vet made a paw print and cut a lock of hair for his owner-- and then his owner asked to take him home to bury  him.    Rescue can be hard, letting them go after bringing them so far is hard.    His owner will miss him so much, but I'm so glad PVPC was able to give him a little more time with his precious boy.   Rest now, Tony.   We love you.

GINNY LEE AND HALLOWEEN

Ginny Lee has been with her new family for several months and she is the ultimate love bug now. She sleeps with someone every night-- it changes depending on her mood. She can snuggle and SNORE and grunt and snort-- all those sweet Peke sounds.
Ginny still isn't crazy about other dogs.   The other day she saw deer in the yard and thought they were REALLY BIG DOGS.   She barked and they ran off and she was so proud of herself for scaring them.
She looks calm here with her scary costume on, but she can really get playful and tear around the house, going at top speed with one of her toys in her mouth.    She can go so fast that she slides through the kitchen and bumps into the cabinets.
Ginny Lee loves to have hugs and tummy rubs.   She can roll over and smile at you and just be so endearing!      We're so glad you have the perfect home, Ginny Lee!!!

PEKA/PETEY AND HIS BOY

Peka now Petey, loves his new family!!   Here he is taking a nap with "his boy."   He gets so much attention there from the three boys in the family-- and of course, his mom and dad.   I love this family!!

YOSHI AND SANDY

Ania's Yoshi is ready for Hurricane Sandy!!   I have to walk some of mine or they won't go out in the yard-- little stinkers!    Just go out already!   I don't want to get wet either!

DOLLAR AND FIONA/DESI'S FRIENDS

Dollar lives with Desi-- he was rescued by her parents and now is part of the family.
He's a tough cowboy for Halloween.   Right?
And precious Fiona lives there, too.  She was rescued in serious condition from a shelter.  She probably has a brain tumor and is on all kinds of meds and like my Cranberry, she doesn't walk well, but she is still a sweetheart and getting the best care!    Oh, look at her spiffy hat!   I love her flower.
 And I love your pearls!
Like Desi, Fiona is doing her best to give me a scary face.  I'm not scared though-- I just want to give her a kiss!!  How about you?

DESI AND HALLOWEEN SAFETY

Here is our beautiful diva Desi-- she is ready for the Halloween party at her house.    Oh, my she is so stunning in her outfit.     She wants to make sure all the dogs are safe this year.   Here are some tips.
I know Desi and her friends would love some of that Halloween candy, but it's not good for dogs, especially if it has all those artificial sweeteners in it.   It can be very toxic!   Chocolate is very toxic, so if you suspect your dog gets into any, get them to the vet.
If you are handing out candy, put a baby gate or xpen by the front door.   If your dog gets out, all those "scary creatures" will make them run and you don't want that.    Better yet, put your dogs upstairs and put on a radio or fan to create white noise,  to keep them as calm as possible.
Desi will dress up for her party, and for going to work, but many pets are not used to being in a crowd where they can show off their outfit.  If your dog isn't used ot it, don't start now on Halloween.
Desi is making her scary face! Oh, no!    We love you Desi!  Thank you for all the Halloween tips!

HURRICANE SANDY

If Hurricane Sandy hits us here on the coast, there may not be a blog if I don't have electricity.    If we do lose power, I'll be sure to post as soon as we get it back  on.    Just pray for all in the path of this huge hurricane.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY JEANNE!

Jeanne is the heart of rescue-- she loves all these Pekes!    She spends hours a day working to save them.     Here she is with DiDi, her heart dog!
Jeanne has raised so much money for rescue-- through quilt sales, garage sales, plant sales, chip-ins...  She continually comes up with ideas to raise money to help our foster dogs.
And she loves my grandkids-- especially Drill Bit!
We had a day at a park in Richmond with some of them.   A friend on the left came with Bitty Bit, Lil Bit, and Drill Bit to have fun with me and Jeanne at the park.
Camden was one of her foster dogs, and Brandy was one of the Bristol 18 that Jeanne helped.
 Brandy says HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!
Beau-Beau and Lolli-pop (available for adoption) say Happy Birthday, too!
Jeanne has heard Beach Bit a LOT on the phone!    But, he still wants her to have a happy birthday!

I hope she has a cake with lots of candles to celebrate.   We all love you, Jeanne!!!    Happy Birthday!

BUTTERSCOTCH

UPDATE ON BUTTERSCOTCH:    BUTTERSCOTCH HAS BEEN DIAGNOSED WITH MEDIATED HEMOLYTIC ANEMIA AND IS ON TWO ANTIBIOTCS PLUS EYE MEDS TO TRY TO SAVE HIS EYE.    DOING EYE SURGERY IS NOT POSSIBLE RIGHT NOW.    WE HOPE HIS BLOOD LEVELS ARE BETTER TOMORROW OR WE WILL HAVE TO START OTHER MEDS.   WE JUST WANT THIS SWEET BOY TO RECOVER AND LEAD A FULL AND HAPPY LIFE.  Here is a link on his condition:   http://veterinarynews.dvm360.com/dvm/article/articleDetail.jsp?id=
This is Butterscotch.    He was found abandoned, wandering the streets near a town in southern Virginia.  I found out he had been tethered outside a house on a short leash, and then the people just let him go.   They didn't want to be bothered anymore.
A friendly person said he came to his carport, thirsty and hungry.   He fed him and said he drank a lot of water.    The man, Mark, contacted rescue, knowing the owners weren't looking for him.   (He did post on craigslist to make sure, but knew they wouldn't call.)
Butterscotch is 4-5 years old, great teeth and friendly.    Since he was tied outside, we are working on housetraining and he's doing great.   When I can't watch him, he's in an xpen with a soft bed and food and water.     Toby, the puppy, LOVES Butterscotch and wants to be his best friend.
He loves to get in his face, but Butterscotch would rather he didn't and he tells him.
I don't know why he doesn't want me there, says Toby.
I JUST WANT TO BE YOUR BEST FRIEND!
Whew, is he gone?     Peace and quiet!   Butterscotch is heartworm negative-- thank goodness!-- and is about 14 pounds.)

FAREWELL NORMA JEAN

Caryn fostered for us and this is one of her own precious dogs.   Norma Jean lost her battle yesterday after fighting hard to stay with her mom.   Her mom is devastated.   We just want you to rest now, little one.   She posted this on her facebook page.

A PET'S PLACE
I have left you now
but please don't be sad.
You did so much for me in my time here
and I'll always hold those precious times near.
I know someday you'll find love again
and into your life will come a new friend.
Your heart will heal, though you'll never forget
memories like the first time we met.
Memories are wonderful, so keep them close
and remember all the good times the most.
Up to the Heaven for animals is where I'll be
and someday in the future, each other we will see.
I am at PEACE now, so please don't be sad.
You gave me all the love you had.

CHIP

Look at sweet Chip.   He is getting an autumn walk near the water-- see the leaves changing color behind him?   I bet it was nice and cool.     I wish I was there, too!
Chip, you are the cutest thing!!    (Chip is 9 year old and is a wonderful boy.  He does have a heart issue but requires no meds at this time.)

BUSTER

This is Buster.   He is at a vet because his owner died.  They have asked for our help, but I can't take him unless a foster home is available.   Buster is ten years old, and housetrained.  He gets along with other dogs, but kids would be too active for him.  He can be a "grumpy old man" with them.
He is neutered and has all his shots done.    If you are interested in adopting or fostering this little one, let us know.

BRANDY AND CAMDEN

Camden and Brandy (one of the Bristol 18 rescues) usually sleep downstairs at home.   But, they went on a little vacation with their parents and were in the same room.   They even managed to get on the bed with them!
The following night, Brandy kept putting her paws on the side of the mattress to get on the bed as if she was saying, "But I ALWAYS sleep on the bed with  you.   I ALWAYS have-- my whole life!"    Oh how far this little girl has come thanks to very loving parents!!   (Brandy was the momma of the two puppies and she was a skeletal 9 pounds-- she's now a beautiful 18 pounds!)
