But, one day, Jill was not feeling well. She was just not herself, not eating, not moving around.
Dr. Rich Teague, Jeanne's vet (and vet for many of our foster and adopted Pekes) checked her over. After all the tests, he told Jeanne that Jill had ITP-- Immune Mediated Thrombocytopenia. Sometimes, there are bruise looking spots on the skin-- Jill did not have this. But, she was still in serious condition.
Like Lexie, Jill has an immune disorder. Jill's disorder is one where the platelets are attacked by the body and this can cause bleeding. These are made in the bone marrow-- just as Lexie's red blood cells are made in the bone marrow. (In Lexie's IMHA, her red blood cells are attacked, limiting the oxygen and healing in her body.) Both of these dogs have issues that must be dealt with for them to survive. Lexie's condition is not as easy to overcome-- but both are serious.
Jill Lee (here with Marshall) is doing well and getting better each day. We hope Jill and Lexie have a long life. Here are links to learn more about ITP. Jeanne and I had never heard of these immune disorders before Lexie and Jill-- the more we know, the better we can care for our dogs.
Oh I am so shocked to read this Linda!
