FLOYD

Floyd came into rescue in the fall of 2015-- he was in Floyd, Virginia and that's how he got his name.
He was in rough shape, with a broken pelvis.  It was an old injury and it was stable.  He was able to get around well.   He was also deaf, had one eye and his mouth was horrendous.
Dr. Hodges did a lot of work on his mouth, removed teeth, gave a lot of medication.   The infection in his mouth was so severe that it probably caused his heart issues.   He has a 5+ heart murmur, and is on two medications.   This is why it is so important to keep a dog's mouth clean.   Dental cleaning is critical to stay on top of it.   Most dogs need this about once a year.   (Doing a full bloodwork before it will show any medical issues.)
Floyd is about 13-14 years old.  He was put in our "forever foster" group because we did not expect him to live very long with the heart problems he has.   We did not think anyone would adopt him if he only had months to live.
He has fooled us all!  Floyd goes on walks in the yard every day.  He has his pattern set up-- straight across the yard to the fence-- turn left, walk down the hill, then up the hill, then around the tree, back down, up the stone path to the back door.   He has his own slow pace, but he takes this little sojourn at least once a day.  He's amazing.
Here he is.   He didn't walk as much in the snow-- it hampered his path!  He kept sinking.
He and Kai Kai sleep on the bed at night.   He settles in, "talks a little" and then curls up and goes to sleep.   He has a blue bed on the end of the bed and he usually will climb into this for the night.
He is a sweet boy, and who knows, he may live a lot longer.  Floyd has his own time agenda.

  2. I love the observation that Floyd settles in then talks a little before going to sleep. We had a Peke who "talked a little" every night and some times he would go to sleep in the middle of one of his little talks.
