Her mom told me "She loved life! She was nearly always happy and excited about any adventure. She showed pure joy in so much. She was very good; never messed in the house (never!)." Dee said she was so honored to be in Maizie's life-- it was a "who rescued who" home. They were better because they had each other.
Maizie never chewed on anything. She was perfect. She loved to travel and she knew all the rest stops and that a picnic lunch out on the grass was waiting for her. She went to Florida at least once a year. She did great and loved meeting new people.
Maizie loved helping her mom work in the garden and she loved sitting outside in the sun while her mom read. Her mom told me, "She had certain routines in the house; I could never go to the rest room without a little head peeking in and then turning around and leaving once she saw I was nearby. She would sit in the kitchen as I cooked. We always shared my lunch. I had a tiny dish of chopped veggies for her. This was a daily routine including her last day. If I stripped the bed, she would immediately hop onto the used bed linens and rest while watching me make up the bed."Maizie had victory through several health issues-- mamory cancer, mouth cancer, arthritis. It took a long time for Maizie to trust Dee-- she had bad experiences in her previous life, but she did learn she was treasured and loved.
Her mom, Dee, learned so much from her. She learned strength and how to "stand up to the bad guys." Maizie showed strength no matter the obstacle and unconditional love. She adored her mom's friend, Larry. Dee had a special sound for when he was coming to the door and Maizie was so excited. She would follow him into the house and then get a toy for him. Her mom had special routines in the morning, getting down on her level, scratching her, petting her and snuggling.. Maizie would wag her tail, happy to greet a new day with her mom. Like many Pekes, she didn't believe in fetching, but it was okay if her mom threw the toy-- her mom got to retrieve it. 💜The last week, Maizie had more issues. Her mom spent every moment with her, She gave her special treats and loved her, making memories to last a lifetime. The vet did all he could, but Maizie was almost 15 and it was her time.
Maizie began having more health issues and she had trouble breathing. The vet and her mom tried to help her. It became clear that there was nothing that could be done.
Dee told Maizie how much she loved her and told Maizie was an honor it was to have her in her life. She thanked Maizie for the wonderful difference she made in her life. Dee knew it was the right time for Maizie. Letting them go is never easy-- but Maizie let her know it was time. They had gone out for a little walk in the stroller. Maizie was lifted to the grass and then she laid her head down. It was time for the vet to help her say good-bye. Maizie was held as she left very gently. The young vet said a tender and very loving prayer after she was gone. Maizie was an amazing little girl. She is free from all she went through. She is now with her friend, Girl-Girl again. Run free, sweet girl.
Oh Dee...... I send you huge big hugs.
ReplyDeleteYou had a very special bond with Maizie and I know you will miss her so .
Its the hardest thing to do when our best four legged friend is in pain and they do tell us "its time".
Lots of love Dee ....

Thanks so much Melinda. She was a very special girl. I hope there is a place where they go and can play and live pain free. Coco was there to greet her!
