When you foster, dogs come and go. Paddington was very good w Bruce. “What do you mean, “he’s leaving?”
Bruce was with us almost a month. He was laid back and happy. He made himself right at home.
So, what happens when they leave? You get used to the number of dogs you have. How many bowls do you set out, how many are in the house when you leave on an errand? I count heads each time to make sure all are safely inside.
When one leaves— even when you have more at home— there’s a distinct difference. You can feel it. It seems extra quiet even if the adopted dog didn’t make much noise. The whole home seems different.
So I let myself be quiet. I miss them and also rejoice for the adopted one. New life has begun. My “job” is complete. Bruce left a little piece of his heart here. Just like so many others. Gidget. Bogie. Bear. And now, if another needs help, I have a space. I’m so glad Bruce had time with us.
Sending them off must be the hardest thing but .... you must.
ReplyDeleteSo glad Brucee Wu ( see, I remember his new name.... well, its because I loved the name Sneeky Wu and what a beautiful Peke Sneeky Wu was too) is off to a new life with love and care.
I know you will miss him Linda.
