Thanksgiving at the Reeves

I received an email on Jeanne's dogs. Jeanne is our Richmond rep, a great foster home, and my "right hand man" in helping keep the rescue work organized. She also does the web site, along with Larry, her friend and helper. Jeanne has done rescue work for over thirty years and has been an invaluable helper to our rescue group.
Jill Lee and DiDi (in the bed) were waiting for Thanksgiving dinner in hopes of turkey landing in their bowls!
Amy was watching her foster mom-- "Is turkey coming soon?'
Cindy was just thinking, "I wish I had some turkey." Oh, dear, she looks sad. Give her some turkey, Jeanne!
She's trying to be as cute as she knows how-- rolling around in the bed. Dogs will do anything to get some turkey!
Hanna is thinking about it, but now Cindy is now just sleeping. Begging for turkey is hard work.

Did YOUR dogs get turkey for Thanksgiving!?

A Dog Named Christmas

Warning: I've posted this before, but want to do it again. I've heard of many serious side effects from Confortis-- the flea medication/pill. One comment on the pill said, "I will never use this drug again. My 7 year old Chihuahua almost died from it. He started foaming at the mouth, went into a seizure like state, stiff as a board. I thought he was dead. It took a good 10 minutes before he could try and sit up. The Vet did bloodwork on him but refused to allow me to pay for the visit. He expects the drug company to pick up the bill. It was a horrible experience, one I will not revisit. Beware people." One of my adopters gave her dog Chancey the Confortis pill and her dog seems to have lost his vision and hearing. Please do not use this pill.

There is a movie on tonight called A Dog Named Christmas. I read the book and loved it. There is also a Petfinder.com campaign to give dogs homes for Christmas. You can read about it on the web link below. I am not sure this is a plan that works for everyone, if it gives some dogs a new, loving home, I'm all for it.

LET ME KNOW WHAT YOU THINK OF THE MOVIE! (Melinda, I'm sorry if you can't get this in Australia!)

DOGS AND HEAVEN

I have seen this many times-- I googled it and it's not true, someone made this all up, but it's still funny. Hope it gives you a grin!

Pandy

I had to share a blog that my daughter put on HER blog. She adopted Pandy from me six years ago. Pandy is now ten or eleven years old. She somehow got into some poison ivy. I have no idea how since my daughter walks her. Pandy had to go on prednisone because it was so bad and because of this, she gained some weight. Here's what my daughter wrote. :-)

I'm a bad mom.
Pandy, has apparently gained 3 pounds,
Which is about 18% of her body weight.
Poor girl.
She's on a diet.
I wonder if that is why she's had such horrific gas lately?
It will seriously clear you out of a room.
Her gas is the SBD kind (silent, but deadly).
I don't like to call Pandy "fat" because I think that is an ugly word.
She is "pretty plus "...
Hopefully she doesn't get too pretty
or else her legs won't be able to support her.
Poor Pandy--

Stitch

Check out Stitch. He just came into rescue.
He is only a year old and a big puppy! All 17.5 pounds of him.
He has a very short hair cut, but his coat should be beautiful when it grows in.
He's all ready to go to his new foster home and be a buddy to Clarence.
He is a very sweet Peke, houestrained and loving. His family turned him into a shelter because they could no longer afford to take care of him.
But, we'll take care of him! How could we not take care of this sweet thing. :-)
Are you the home for him?

CHARLIE ADOPTED
Charlie was on the blog before-- he was in a shelter in Maryland after his owners moved out of the house and left him there. Neighbors let animal control know so Charlie could get out of the house.
Paige, one of our Maryland reps, fostered Charlie and said he was the sweetest boy! He loved to go for runs on a leash even though he didn't see well. He loves belly rubs and playing with his stuffed toy.
Paige did a home check and took Charlie along. The couple fell in love with him and adopted him!
Now Charlie-- and his toy-- is in his new home. Another happy ending!

Pink Bed Club

Gloria, our vice-president of our club, gave me a bunch of pink beds for the foster dogs. All the dogs seem to love them-- Scooter and Cranberry aren't fosters though-- but they decided to get in them. They don't fit!
"I do, too!" says Cranberry.
"Of course, I do," says Scooter-- "I'm not falling over the sides, honest!"
Anna fits just fine. It's a great head rest if you want to take a nap. When she's adopted, her little bed will go with her. It's washable, too! I love things that are washable-- I do a lot of dog laundry. Have to keep things fresh.
What do your dogs sleep in?

BB, Maggie and Friends

Remember Maggie? She was one of my foster dogs. She was adopted and is now queen of her home.
Here she is with her crown. It fits her!
She is such a regal dog--
Here she is with her subjects-- Leo, Maxxi, and Trevor. They belong to her mom's daughter.
They have invited BB to come live with them and be their foster dog. BB has been with me a month, but I have too many, so BB is going to stay with them.
I know BB will enjoy the boys there-- she'll learn to run and play with them. She'll become best friends with them like she is with Max here. Maybe Maxxi up there will become her best friend. :-)
She is going to their house after Thanksgiving. Are you ready, BB? I'll miss you, but you'll have so much fun there. Thanks to Maggie and Maxxi and Trevor and Leo for letting her come-- and to their mom!!

Campbell/Camden

Jeanne was Campbell's foster mom. (Remember he was adopted once, but the two Pekes there wouldn't let him stay, so he came back to Jeanne's house.)
Campbell is now Camden. I like that! He is one of the prettiest Pekes I've seen. He was put in a shelter by his family-- we don't know why. He was under two years old when we got him.
Campbell loves his new mom. He gets to go for walks, talk to the neighborhood children, and be the little king in his home.
His mom and dad think he is wonderful. He had a little adjustment period, (a lot of them do) and now he is settling in just fine.
He is relaxing more and realizes he does not have to guard everything. Look at this face! What a beautiful boy.
He can rest easy-- he's home now! P.S. I just got an email from Camden's mom-- She said:
"Camden's "hiding" some of his treats. In the house. By putting them behind a trunk. Or up against the couch. Or against the wall in the dining room. Or in his bed. Um, honey, I can see them. They're not really hidden."

Christmas Web Site

Have you seen our PVPC web site recently? It's all decked out for Christmas! I can't believe the hours it took to make this what it is. It required more knowledge than I have, that's for sure. Hours using "clip art" and new programs-- over twelve hours of work in one day alone, and many other days, too. To all of you who have helped with this web site in the past (Melanie and Shep!), thank you. I never realized how much work it took. I'm okay at blogging, and pet adoption sites, and making photo books (another time consumer), but web sites are out of my league.
Jeanne is our foster rep and foster home in Richmond. She has also become a dear friend to me-- supporting me in many things, not just rescue. She has a huge heart and it's evident in the work she does with the Pekes. She took in Cindy-- and her "sister" Amy below- when a shelter contacted us. Jeanne has dogs of her own, and fostering more takes a lot of time. Vet visits rate high on our weekly schedule, and medical care after surgery is often extensive. (It's worth every minute though!)
Betty, above, came into rescue with some behavior issues from her previous life. She just needed attention! Jeanne has worked with her with love and diligence. Betty is ready for a new home!
Amy was a little breeder dog, but is one who wants to please so much. She is doing great in Jeanne' care and home. Amy and Cindy were a mess when they came in, but several washings allowed Amy's beautiful colors to come through. When foster moms take in new dogs, they don't come in groomed and pretty. We have to see through the dirt. That's why this "signature" is on many of my emails: "We find beauty in the most incomprehensible places and the otherwise homely faces. It is our gift to see beyond the dirt, terror, sadness and defeat and find the true soul that lies within. We are Rescue." Jeanne exemplified this statement.
Here is Jeanne-- under one of the flowering plants in her yard. Her back yard is amazing! (I did a blog previously on her yard.) Jeanne has taken over our club's web site. She wanted to make sure it kept going and even though she had no experience, she decided to learn. She has done an incredible job. THANK YOU!!
She had the amazing help of Larry-- and his dog Buddy! Without a mascot to help, we can't think as well. I think Larry needs a Peke mascot,, too. :-)
Larry has been Jeanne's teacher and "co-author" of our web site now. He has given so graciously of his time and knowledge to teach Jeanne. He has spent hours and hours on it and he and Jeanne have come up with our Christmas home page.
If you go to our web site, you can see this picture-- but on our web site, you can click on the Christmas balls and they will each give you more information. It's incredible! I just love it!
So, thank you Jeanne and Larry-- and Buddy-- for the work you are doing to make our web site so wonderful, for the time you give. I appreciate you both! And you, too, Buddy!!
