PANDY-- P.S.

My granddog, Pandy, died last week.   It's been a really tough week for my daughter.   Pandy's ashes came back and Molly was trying to adjust to being without her girl.   She knew Pandy was no longer suffering, but she missed her.   On Sunday of this week, our church talk was on the book of Acts.   So, Molly opened her Bible to the reading and found a newspaper clipping.   It was as if God knew Molly needed comfort and had placed it right in the spot she went to.  Molly doesn't even recall putting it there.    If you've had to let one go-- and so many of us have, I hope this helps you, too.  Here it is:
A DOG'S PLEA by Beth Norman Harris:
Treat me kindly, my beloved friend, for no heart in all the world is more grateful for kindness than the loving heart of me.
Do not break my spirit with a stick, for though I might lick your hand between blows, your patience and understanding will more quickly teach me the things you would have me learn.
Speak to me often, for your voice is the world's sweetest music, as you must know by the fierce wagging of my tail when the sound of your footstep falls upon my waiting ear.
Please take me inside when it is cold and wet, for I am a domesticated animal, no longer accustomed to bitter elements.   I ask no greater glory than the privilege of sitting at your feet beside the hearth.
Keep my pan filled with fresh water, for I cannot tell you when I suffer thirst.
Feed me clean food that I might stay well to romp and play and do your bidding, to walk by your side and stand ready, willing and able to protect you with my life, should your life be in danger.
And my friend, when I am very old, (and Pandy was about 17) and I no longer enjoy good health, hearing and sight, do not make heroic efforts to keep me going.   I am not having any fun.
Please see that my trusting life is taken gently.   I shall leave this Earth knowing with the last breath I draw that my fate was safest in your hand."   Pandy died in Molly's arms and knew how loved she was.
Pandy was my "mom's dog" while Pandy was a foster dog here and my mom adored her.  Molly adopted her because she knew that my mom wanted us to make sure Pandy was cared for after my mom passed away.  I think my mom is holding Pandy now and probably asked her, "What took you so long?!   I've been waiting 12 years for you to get here."   Makes me smile to think of it.    I hope the article helped you, too.
