VALENTINE PUPS

 So many beautiful hearts....

Moose (formerly Oliver) had his Valentine sweater on.

Minnie (formerly Belle of the Christmas rescue) had one on, too. :-)

Toasty and TukTuk were surrounded by hearts.   Tuk Tuk still has a lot of energy, but he is quiet occasionally. haha

Hunter and Jingle just celebrated their one-year-aversary!   Their mom dressed them up.  They are still the best friends.  And Hunter showed his mom that he can jump higher gates than she thought he could.  He has springs on his legs!

Grace has had Peke friends, so she's an honorary Peke!  

Catherine is a Tibetan, but we think she can be part of our Peke club.

Angel shared their pictures on Facebook.  Aren't they sweet!!

I had to share my grand dog-- he may be 100 pounds, but he has a "tiny" sweet personality.  He thinks he should be a lap dog and you know it when he climbs up.  🤣

Simon is 17!!  He is a PVPC alumni and such a sweet boy.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY ZEKE

Zeke came into rescue in October 2023.  I had just picked up another dog, when a message came asking if I could take Zeke.  I had not passed the shelters exit yet, so I stopped by. So two dogs in one rescue trip.  

When I arrived, I asked to meet and do paperwork at my car.  I wasn’t leaving the other dog in the car.  They brought Zeke out and said “Is he Peke enough?”  😂 (I had worked w the shelter a long time.)

Zeke hopped right in the car, happy and friendly.  At my house we began to call him “the perfect boy.”  He was.  My kids/grandkids began calling him Zeke the Peke.  The name stuck.  I had many who wanted him. All good homes.  What would be the best one for ZEKE?  I knew.  

He went to the best home for him.  He is so loved.  He has become a daddy’s boy. They ride on the golf cart and hang out together.  Zeke loves his mom too. 😀.  His mom shared the first picture (above).  Happy birthday Zeke!   🎂🎂

FULL OF SWEETNESS

Belle (Sable) and Emmie (Clementine) were from the West Virginia 5 rescue.  They came into rescue two years ago this month. 

Belle’s hair is longer than Emmie’s. 

Emmie’s hair is shorter but not as short as a Min Pin which is part of her DNA. 

These two girls came in together and were adopted together.  (I love double adoptions—instant best friend coming along). Their new mom said, “ Belle and Emmie are wonderful and always up to something, as it should be.”   ❤️

Emmie (Clementine) and Belle (Sable) love being together!  They play and run and chase each other around the house.  Joy is everywhere. 

These two are full of sweetness. 💖💖

BERKELEY LOVES HIS HOME

Berkeley came into rescue in December 2024. He was a tiny Peke-Chi.  

He was unsure and didn’t know what had happened to his life. 

He needed a special mom who would adore him. 

We waited for that person and she came! 

Look at him now. His mom sent us a picture. Berkeley and his 2 cat friends were peacefully enjoying the sunshine together. Helen, the white one, still likes to be the boss but she is making progress and realizing that Berkeley is there to stay.  His mom wrote, “I have fallen deeply in love w Berkeley and he seems so happy here.  I am so grateful for him.”   We are happy for them both. 
 

FAREWELL FANCY

Fancy came into rescue in September of 2020.  We were told she was about 9 years old.

Fancy's life before we got her was a very sad one.  She was afraid of people.  She didn't trust anyone.  We found out that her owner had been homeless and was living in a car.  She was also unstable, so we know Fancy went through a lot.   We were glad to help her.  

Lisa fostered her and Fancy met Paisley, one of Lisa's precious dogs.  Fancy did well with the other  dogs.  But she didn't trust people at all.   Lisa just let her be.  She was safe and loved.  She could take all the time she needed to feel safe.  

Fancy was made one of our forever fosters.  She just couldn't go through another change and Lisa had a special gift with her.  Fancy was safe.   Look at her smile. 

Fancy let Lisa know that she wasn't going to eat regular dog food, no matter how good it was.  She insisted on cheese mixed in-- boy did she love cheese-- and other goodies on her food.  Once it was made to her satisfaction, she would eat it.   She was a little princess after all. 

One day, Lisa asked Fancy if she was ready to go to bed.  Fancy stood against Lisa, and she put a paw on her mouth.   Fancy did it again, and Lisa realized that Fancy was trying to play.  It was wonderful.  Fancy learned to trust Lisa and became a full part of the pack.   She had a forever home.

Last night, Fancy began seizing.  She had been showing signs of being older.  She was about 14 years old.  Lisa had also seen that the spicy personality wasn't there anymore.   The ER vet thought Fancy had a brain tumor and the seizures would probably have continued.  Lisa made the heart wrenching decision to let her go.  Lisa held her as Fancy left.  Lisa made a wonderful life for Fancy-- and Fancy overcame a lot, feeling loved fully and cherished every day.  Fancy could meet her friend Paisley at the Rainbow Bridge, and she could run and play.  You will be missed Fancy.  Run free, sweet girl.  💜 
 

DAISY ADOPTED

Daisy came to us from a Richmond shelter.  She was so afraid there and she didn't know who anyone was.   She was a stray and she had a lot of matting and dirt and she needed help.

She's had several baths now, and the knots were being cut off one by one.   It was less stressful for her this way. 

She was groomed Saturday.  Thanks Amee!  I think with good nutrition, her tail hair will grow.  

Her foster family adopted her this week.  They think she's a toy hoarder.  She has adopted this blanket, and one by one, her toys are brought over to it.  I wonder if Bogie or Rey have any left.  

Daisy is relaxing, she loves her new dad and likes to be on his lap.  She will let the others hold her, too-- but dad is clearly her favorite.   Pekes are like that-- they often pick just one person as the special one.  Daisy has done that.   Welcome to your forever, Daisy!!  
 

PAIRS AND PILE-UPS

I’ve always had more than one dog.  

Years ago, I had two Keeshond.  

But other than Piper (is 2% Pekingese 😂), all my dogs have been Pekingese.  

In my house, they usually have a friend beside them.  

They like pairing up. 

Cinnamon loves Paddington best. But she will snuggle w Dickens. Piper is her buddy too. 

Having another dog by him has really helped in Dickens emotional healing.  He is joy in a fluffy Pekingese body. 

Piper is usually w a pal on the ottoman by the window. Two or three w him works too. But he always watching me. I go upstairs. He goes upstairs. 

There’s Cinnamon and Dickens again. 

Cinnamon will walk up the steps to get w her boy. 

In the morning, when I sit on the couch w my coffee, I usually have all of them up there w me. 

Like I said… and this wasn’t posed.  It’s normal.
