GUS

I don't usually just do "before" blogs, but this little guy just came into rescue and has been quite neglected medically.     He was covered with fleas-- this has obviously gone on for some time as he is just miserable and has lost some hair.   Gus' owner loved him but was unable to provide the care he needed.
We gave a capstar and that kills all fleas within 30 minutes or so.    Then, he had a special bath and already is beginning to feel better.    Look at him itching him-- just makes me feel bad for him!  But, those fleas are gone now.
Gus is about 6 years old, and weighs 13 pounds.
He has been on Kibbles and Bits but we are changing him to a healthy dog food   Just look what the fleas have done to his body.    Fleas have been a problem this  year and his owner just didn't know how to help him.   (Remember, we aren't all as knowledgeable as others and this owner did love her dog.)
Gus is in good hands now and I can't wait to see how he does in a week or two.  He's going to feel SO much better!   He will get healthy, have wonderful food, medical care, and lots of love and Peke friends.    Lucy, Jeanne's other foster, is telling him he is safe now.   Love this!

FELIX ADOPTED

Look who was also adopted!   Felix!    He's such a great boy and lives with another Peke and two big dogs.     He is a happy boy!!!

GEEGEE ADOPTED

GeeGee was adopted!  I met her new parents and they love their dogs.    GeeGee has already become good friends with Ben, their other Peke.    Here he is:
He was moping so much after his other Peke buddy died, and now he has come back to life!   I'm so happy for GeeGee!!

PAULA POUND PUPPY

I am doing something I don't usually do-- I am reposting a blog, so you can see the rest of the story.      I'll tell it at the end.
A Maryland shelter had this Peke and said she was 6 years old, unspayed and very sweet.
She had one eye, but that doesn't bother us a bit.    We took her into rescue last week.
One thing the shelter said was true-- she is super sweet, loves to be held, give kisses....  She is only 11 pounds, and probably 7-8 years old.  Not old for a Peke.
However, we had her vetted and the poor girl can't see.  She also doesn't have much hearing.   I know shelters can be busy places, but we would have liked to know all this before we got her.     She was also spayed, so we didn't have to do that (vet found a spay scar, so we assume she is).     Since she is missing an eye, she could have had a head trauma that caused the loss of sight and hearing (and one of her eyes).    The vet can see not reason for her eye and ears not to be working.
She's ours now and her foster mom said she hasn't had one this sweet for a  very long time.    Paula is just fine there and we'll do all we can to keep her comfortable.     She really doesn't need much, food and love.   She loves her foster mom and it's a lot better than being in a shelter, that's for sure!      Welcome, little Paula!

THE REST OF THE STORY:    I received an email from the shelter that Paula came from-- someone had come forward claiming that she knew this dog and it had been hers.    She had this little female from puppyhood to when she was six, and because of fights between two of her Pekes, she had given this dog to a family member.     She thought the dog was being cared for and occasionally visited her.    The family member ended up getting larger dogs and Paula was not the center of their attention anymore.   In fact, she could be found hiding by a chair or in the corner.   (told to us by first owner)  When Paula came into rescue, she also walked in circles a lot, which made us wonder if she was kept in a small space or crate extensively.  She is not doing this anymore!  We don't know if the larger dogs (4 of them) hurt Paula's eye, but when she arrived at the shelter, her eye had been removed and the stitches were still there-- long overdue for being removed.    It turns out that Paula is not the 6-8 that we thought-- but she will be 15 in November!     She was very thin when we got her, but she is eating well, gaining weight, and can find her foster mom easily.     She doesn't see or hear, but she can smell and is doing so well.     In fact, she even got a little frisky and barked!!  Her first bark!     Later on, Paula decided she wanted to play-- you know the pose.   Front paws out in front, head down, butt up!   Her foster mom just laughed out loud with joy.    Her tail is up, not down between her legs anymore.   Her foster mom let her first owner come see her, and she was so glad she was cared for and loved.   We don't usually do this, but the first owner was so devastated by what had happened, that we let her see how well Paula was doing.    Here's Paula snoring:   Click here: ? paulasnoring - YouTube    Paula is at the end season of her life, at almost 15, but it will be a joyful and loving season for her.   We are so glad!

J.J.

We just took J.J. into rescue.   His owner was moving in with her daughter and could no longer keep him.
She had adopted J.J. from a rescue, but they no longer existed, so she turned to us for help.
He was a little anxious, but is settling in well.    He even went for a walk with his foster mom's two Pekes.
He seems to like the other Pekes and even tried to get involved in playing with them.
He will roll on his back for tummy rubs and seems to be a nice boy.   He is five years old (his birthday is in Dec. and he will be six.)
Check out the video-- I think he is adjusting just fine.   If you are interested in adopting, just email us at potomacpekes@gmail.com.    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LuXB0qUkwTQ

LACY AND MR. WINKS

Lacy sent me an email-- you know I love these!    Here's what she said,
"Hi Miss Linda,
It has been awhile since I have written. But I got so upset with my Mom.
She said that Mr. Winks and I were going to get a visitor and I got excited thinking maybe my Ashley came home from Egypt. No wait I think I hear someone coming up the driveway.
Boy did I get fooled. Can you believe that it was the groomer. Mom thought I smelled bad, girls just don't stink. Sometimes she calls Winks...Stink's, that I can believe. He smells. :) all 13 lbs of him.
Any way thinking it was someone neat, I run to the fence. Let me say mom thinks she is funny. She said to stinks and I whoever gets here first goes first. Humph...I should have slowed down. Yes you guessed it...I went first. Humiliated I was. So into the truck I go. Mom likes having the groomer come to our house. Much safer for us, and to tell the truth..I don't freak out as much.  As I went with Mr. Jeff to the truck my thought was, hahah..stinks goes next.
So here are the before pictures...I am so cute...winks not so much. Coming up next are the afters...:)
Here I am all fluffed and clean. I do like it..I feel pretty. ole winks wants to show off too..he picked up a leaf..haha. Mom took a couple more pictures
I got pumpkin in my ear...guess I need another bath...sigh.
Hope you and Mr. Matt had a nice anniversary, and please give all your puppies a hug from the Stinks and Me..hope we can come see you soon.
hope we can come see you soon. Big puppy hug..
Miss lacy beans."
Then, I received a short email from Mr. Winks!
 "Miss Linda,
Just for the record. I am way cuter than Lacy. She just wants to be the princess. Look who has the best seat though. I got up there all by myself. ( not sure Mom and Dad were to pleased). But it got my picture taken.
Love,
Mr. Winks  (These two are so cute-- no contest there!)

PUDGIE

Pudgie came to us from a shelter where he had been for awhile.   His right eye was very enlarged and needed surgery.
The shelter said he was very sweet and good with other dogs.    He needed our help.    I didn't have a place for him, so he was in the shelter awhile-- and then....
We found a place for him!    He was transported by Kay and Claretta and was on his way to a new life.
He had to have his eye removed-- there was just no saving it.
His foster brother, Chompers, thought Pudgie was a great addition to the family.
In fact, his foster parents thought the same and decided he was there to stay.     They had lost one of their dogs recently and said Pudgie was good for their hearts to heal.     They also thought he was so cute!
Pudgie and Chompers take naps together.
 So sweet!
 Where's your buddy?
I think these two are going to be friends for a long time.    I'm so glad we were able to help him to find his own forever home!
