MY MAX-- #NOTTODAY

My Max, the Old Gentleman
 Max saw the vet yesterday.
 It was a hard visit.
He's been part of my family for so long, but he's 16 years old now. He came to us when he was five.
Yesterday, before the vet, I decided to brush him some, and trim his feet and make him look pretty.  Why??   He's not doing well, but he enjoyed the treatment.  I put in leave-in conditioner to help the brushing go smoothly and he smelled so good.
I trimmed his feet and brushed his ears.
His coat is still beautiful, but it hides a very thin body.  Max is in kidney failure and the signs are more apparent.  He is under 12 pounds now, and he has developed sores in his mouth.  It's part of the kidneys failing.  The vet and I discussed his prognosis.  It's bad-- that's all there is to it.   So, I brought him home, and we will have a few days of loving and keeping him comfortable.  And later this week, I will probably take him and let him go.  My vet just said to call her when I'm ready.  It's like letting go of part of my life.   But, he can no longer absorb his nutrients, his kidney are not working and his body is getting tired.  Some evenings, he just wanders, he doesn't see much at all.   I don't want him to suffer.
So, this week, I will try to give him a good week.  I will hold him more, and pet him more and make memories with him- of course, there are already so many of those.  He's been a good boy.   He's been a grumpy boy at times, but still good.  I love him.  But, good-bye is getting close.  💙  #nottoday  but soon.

LITTLE BIT HAS SURGERY

Little Bit was in a shelter after his owner died.
It must have been so confusing, because he is blind.   He is ten years old and we wanted to help him.
Sonia and Joe offered to foster and I'm so grateful.  They've probably had Pekes as long as I have, and have fostered a long time.
You can see he has relaxed there.  He loves his foster dad.
I gave him Michelle's Oreo's halo and it helps him not to bump into things.
It fits great!
He eats with his bowl on the fireplace so his "brother" can't get it.  LOL
He mom fell down the stairs (I think those stairs are lethal-- maybe a slide should be put there).  She is having surgery this week and I know Little Bit will help her heal.
Joe sent me a message and said, "Little Bit lost his bits."   ðŸ˜®  He was neutered.  LOL  He didn't see the humor in all of it.  So, he snuggled with his toys.
Little Bit is available for adoption.   He is ten years old and as I said, he is blind.   We hoped cataract surgery would help him, but his retinas were damaged, so surgery wasn't an option.   Blind dogs can live full and happy lives.  (Just look at my Kai Kai! ❤️)   If you are interested in Little Bit "Bitty" just let us know!  potomacpekes@gmail.com

HAPPY SUNDAY

Yesterday, we made a little happy pumpkin for Sugar Bit.  It had a candle in it and she loved it.  Overnight, her dog ate everything but the ribbon.  Bad Callie. 😩
But the triplet sisters are settling into their foster home and Pepper is loving  it.  So, it still a good day.
It’s raining outside and autumn is in the air.  I think it’s also a good day to sit in the hammock on the porch w my coffee and just lusten to the rain falling.  How are you spending your Sunday?

FAREWELL FURBY

Furby came into rescue with his son, Rocky, and BG (Baby Girl).
BG went to NC for fostering due to medical issues.  But, Furby and Rocky were separate for short time (Furby's medical issues) and then they were back together.
He had no tail-- we don't know why.  He had a distinguished face, with an adorable underbite.
So many Pekes have one eye-- no nose out in front for protection!  (plus bulging eyes)
Rocky and Furby adored each other.
They were adopted together, but then they came back.  It wasn't a good fit and we want our fosters to come back to us if that happens.
 Rocky was so glad.
Furby was a sweet one, but he was diagnosed with cancer on his leg.
He had so many wonderful times in his foster home.  Other Pekes to play with, love from his foster mom and dad and plenty of soft places to sleep.
And of course, his son, Rocky.
They were so attached to each other.  After a time where the cancer didn't progress, it suddenly did and he was in pain.  We couldn't fix him.
His son, Rocky, will miss him so much, but he was adopted by his foster family, so he never has to leave them.  I'm so very glad for that.   Jackie and Bill have given such loving care to many and the dogs are adored there.  Rocky will continue to be loved as he has been for over 2 1/2 years.
There have been too many farewells lately-- but each one is special and loved and will be missed.  Furby, you were a wonderful boy.  You can run now, without pain, and find those that went on before you.   You will be missed.  💙

SATURDAY MORNING

Chumley is comfy in his bed after breakfast and time outside.
And I can relax for awhile and reflect on my time away— look at the shells we brought home from the beach.  There were even “stones” made when lightening struck the sand. Awesome.
Minnie may have neurological issues, but like Max, it’s #nottoday.
Max is slowing down more.  I’ll know what his bloodwork is later today or Monday.  He can’t absorb the calories he is eating anymore.  He hardly sees.  But, he is not in pain or suffering.   So, I have more days to love him.
Piper and Paddington hang on the ottoman.  And we are all just listening to the quiet, letting the peace surround us.  I think it will be a good day. 😊

FAREWELL BRODY

Brody was a special Peke to me--
Why?  Because he was Abner's brother.  And Abner was my puppy foster dog. And they all came to my house to visit and I loved it.
Brody and Lily and Abner were a sweet threesome.
And even though Abner became "famous" on facebook-- and at airports and hospitals...
Brody was the bigger, older brother.
And he loved that his little brother was famous.
Brody was content to stay home and just relax.
Sometimes, he got to go and be famous, too.  Look at those sunglasses.
Like most Pekes, he didn't use the entire bed.
He curled up with a Peke pillow.
 He could snooze so well.
 He was greatly loved.
His brother and sister adored him.  Snuggling was the best.
He died suddenly.   His vet thinks the walking in circles, agitation, bumping into things was a sign that he may have had a brain tumor.   Sudden losses can be so devastating-- there's no "time to be ready."   But, Brody was ready.  And he will be so missed-- by his mom and his dad and Lily and Abner.  He was a beautiful boy.   Run free now, sweet one.  What a life you had.  💙
