DICKENS
Dickens came into rescue the end of December. When I first saw him, there was a sweetness in his eyes that drew me in. Was it hope? He is second from the left here. (Winter on the left, then Mistletoe, then Fizziwig. I could feel all his bones. He came to my home for fostering. He didn’t wag his tail, he was lethargic and very thin. He’s been very slow gaining weight. I’m doing a lot of research on these dogs. Malnutrition can affect the digestive system’s ability to absorb nutrients. It can take months to heal. Months! He has significant muscle loss. That might not get better. Malnutrition can also affect the bones and can lead to arthritis. Dickens has these issues, too.
BUT.. Dickens wags his tail now. A lot! He has gained a little weight. Even though he has been getting extra meals, he still has a way to go. It’s okay. We have all the time he needs. Dickens is a joy to have here. 🥰
