BRUCE AND OTHERS

Remember Bruce?  Our shelter friends asked for help because he needed a dental badly so he had to go to rescue.  He wasn’t a Peke but we said yes.

His new mom sent me pictures and said he is such a love.  Bruce was at the shelter I lived close to.  I wanted to share some small dogs that are at that shelter now.  Maybe we can help them find homes.
When you're in rescue, you want to help as many as you can.  I've worked with one shelter consistently for about 15 plus years.   They are trying to find homes for the small dogs at their shelter because they're running out of space.  This is Barnaby.  He's 6-year-old Shih Tzu mix.  He was a stray and scared, but he is warming up.

I posted Cha Cha yesterday.   She's a tiny one.  I'll get her Wednesday and she will go to her new home Thursday.
Bently is a 12 year old Jack Russel mix.  He is full of life and wants all the treats.   He does have a fatty mass on his left side that will eventually need to be removed, but it's not causing issues now.  It looks like this has been done before, so probably isn't anything. He still has a lot of life yet.
This face... Beethoven is a 10-year-old neutered male Shih Tzu mix. He does have cataracts and his trachea has issues, but he's a wonderful little boy.   I love the special ones.
This is Mindy.  She's a 7 year old female who looks like a Jack Russell mix.  She's shy but warms up quickly.  She's ready to have a home.
This is a Prince, a Maltese mix.   He needs a dental and is a sweet boy.  So many dogs haven't been taken care of very well, but some medical help can make a big difference.
Colonel Cuddles is an 8-year-old male Pom mix (?).  He loves attention.  He seems healthy and wants a home soon.
Dawn K is a 10 year old, who looks like a schnauzer mix type. She does have mammary masses, so needs someone who can give her medical care.  She looks like she needs a lot of TLC.
Marcus is a special need Chihuahua mix boy.   He was a stray and walks funny.  It could be neuropathy.  Nothing is broken and it doesn't get in his way.  He wants to be the center of attention all the time.  :-)
DJ is a small Yorkie type mix.  He is shy but loving.

If you would like more information on any, message me on Facebook.   Even though they aren't Pekes, I would love to help find them homes.  (They are in the Chesapeake/Virginia Beach area of Virginia.)

ZEKE THE PEKE

It’s been almost 3 years since Zeke came into rescue.
I was driving home from a shelter and another shelter messaged.   So I picked Zeke up too.
He was so awesome. And I immediately knew the perfect family for him.

Zeke has brought so much joy to them.  I love the updates they send.

Happy day Zeke!  ❤️

HELPING THE SENIORS

The shelter I work w said they had a lot of small dogs.  This one just grabbed my heart. Her owner turned her in but I do t know why.  Do any of you love the seniors?  Do any of you like to give the special ones a place to be safe and loved?   To work w our rescue, you have to be in our area— areas close to or in Va and Md.  (some rescues will adopt out of their area but w limit our adoptive area).  I would love to help some of the shelter seniors or small dogs find homes. 🥰

JACK IS HAVING A PARTY

Jack is one of the Christmas ‘24 rescues.
He had a conversation w his mom and said he wanted to see his friends again.  So they planned a party.
Dickens will be going    Paddington will absolutely not be going  lol

Kringle will be there.  If you adopted one of the Christmas pups, and haven’t heard about the picnic, let me know.   Can’t wait to see some  of them.

BROTHERS

Having a brother is usually awesome.  Then there are times that little brothers can just be annoying.  Like when they decide they should share your box w you.
Granger loves his boxes.  There’s room for one.  But then there’s Tuk Tuk.  Granger says you still have to love them. 😜

FAREWELL TINA

In June 2015, I was asked to come see a dog at the shelter near me.   She's beautiful in this picture.  But, when I first saw her, she was in desperate need.
You can't see it here, but most of her hair was missing.  Her skin was like elephant skin.  I hated leaving her, but her hold period wasn't up yet.  I held her and she gave me kisses.    I couldn't wait to go back and pick her up.
She went to my friends for fostering and they did miracles with her care.  Her skin healed, her hair grew.  And she became sweeter and sweeter.
She never left-- she joined the family!   The Doberman refused to get in the pictures.
Tina wasn't a Peke-- I'm sure there's a little bit in her.  It didn't matter.  We've been known to bend the rules at times. :-)

She was sweet with all the dogs.
Her face showed so much love.
She celebrated holidays and birthdays.
Tina began showing signs of a brain tumor. She may also have had a stroke.
Her joy was no longer there and her mom knew it was time.   She was her mom’s “do everything, go everywhere girl.”   Tina had 11 years of love w her family.
She joins so many brothers and sisters at the Rainbow Bridge.  Run free there sweet girl.  ðŸŒ¸

KODA AND MORE SURGERY

Koda came into rescue with eye issues and he needed help.  He had his first eye surgery several weeks ago and was healing well.
But, one day, his eyes were cloudy and he was taken to Vet ER and then he saw his opthalmologist.  He still needed more help.

His ophthalmologist told me he needed to have "Conjunctival Graft surgery to help decrease the chance of rupturing."
He will have the surgery on Thursday.  I'll let you know how he does.  I hope this will help him fully heal.  He is already so loved by his foster to adopt family.  💙

HUNTER AND JINGLE—PERFECT?

Hunter and Jingle were my fosters at the same time. Becoming best friends and then being adopted together was the greatest thing.  Look at all those hearts in the picture.  Do you think they’re perfect?
They look like it. Cute, sweet, absolutely adorable.

But perfect?  Ask their mom. ❤️. She told me they can get into things, pee on a bed, Hunter can high jump things.  He loves the cat tree. He can easily get on it.
But they did it big recently.  Their mom had a NICE new bed for them.  They’ve never torn one up before.  But they sure tore the new bed up.  Fluff was everywhere. They acted like pure innocence.  I know we all think we have perfect little pups, but I have to admit.  Mine aren’t perfect.  I wonder if they taught some things to Hunter and Jingle while they were here.  Hunter and Jingles mom will have to ask them. 😜

WELCOME CHEWY

We found out about this little one last week.
His owner could no longer care for him and needed help.   It took time to coordinate, but he was picked up yesterday.  They have adopted 3 from us, and so I know they are wonderful.  He was so sweet.
He did great in the car, and a stop was made at a pet store to give him a bath.  He was covered in fleas.  Poor guy.

He needed two baths and a capstar to kill any remaining fleas.   He had bites all over him, but he'll be checked out at the vet and given the vetting he needs.  I love his little face peeking through.🧡

He did so well in the car.   I don't know if his name will remain Chewy, but I'll let you know with updates.  Don't apply for this special one-- he will be staying right where he is.

It was a very long day-- he took a long nap.  I know today, he will wake up, ready to begin his forever.  In the meantime, his new home is thinking of new names.  There's a lot of new names this past week!

(People have messaged me asking to adopt.  I have a list of applicants who have been approved, and I use that list first.   If you want to be considered for a Peke, and you live in the Virginia/Maryland area, just fill out this application.  We require home and vet checks.  Some of you have applied recently and I'm working on your applications.)

FATHERS DAY

Happy Father's Day Matt!
He's a dad, he's a granddad (Poppy), he's a dog dad, and he's helped me for 23 years being a dog foster dad.
Some of them have adored him-- like Starlight.
He took the dogs and the Bits on wagon rides.  I began fostering when my first grandchild was born.  So, it's easy to remember when it was.
Matt was a very good sport.   I mean... 100s of Pekes (and a few wanna-be Pekes) have come through our home.
We cleaned a lot of storm doors since it was a very good place to guard our home.  We replaced carpets, we bathed and groomed and cared for sick Pekes.   We bought lots of Peke things and food and beds and toys.
Matt liked some dogs more than others.   We've had some who created a lot of chaos here.  LOL  Right now, we have a great group.
He went to a lot of PVPC picnics with me.  He met a lot of Peke loving people.   He manned the grill at so many of our picnics. He drove me long distances for picking up Pekes, taking them to new homes, supporting me when I had to let one go.   He supported me because he knew I loved these dogs. ("I love my wife.  My wife loves these dogs.  Therefore, I love these dogs."}  I never planned to foster Pekes.  It kind of just happened.  And now, over 23 years later, we still have foster Pekes in our home- even though I am trying to slow down.   I AM 23 years OLDER than when I began.  Funny how that happens.
So, for Matt, Happy Father's Day!  We love you!   Gwennie loves Matt, too!
