WINSTON—WE CAN HELP

Sometimes we are asked to help. Families can love their dogs but not be able to afford critical care. 

Winston was in that situation.  He had a huge cyst on his back that opened up.  The hole was deep and he needed meds to prevent infection. 

He needed surgery to remove that deep cyst and another smaller one. 

Doing this would prevent a reoccurrence. 

He had the surgery last week.  The e collar kept him from licking. But back feet can be a menace to a back wound.   It itches. 😬

He had already tried and one of the surgery spots had been scratched.  The stitches didn’t open, but they would have.  The vet put a shirt on him, and his mom keeps a variety of shirts on him.  Once it heals some, he will be fine.  

I’m so glad we could help a Peke stay w his family. There are many forms of rescue.  This boy had a loving home and he got to stay there.  We just helped a bit. 

AUGGIE-SWEET ONE

Auggie “August” came into rescue in August 2023.  He was a Japanese Chin and had been in the shelter awhile. 

The first thing we did was take him to our great vet. His skin was a mess.  He was put on meds to help him heal.  And he had baths often. 

Before we left the vets, they trimmed the mats off him.  It was have felt so much better because he gave a big smile. 

He had his first winter as a loved healthy boy.  

He was adopted by one of our awesome repeat adopters.  She also fostered for us.  

Something about Auggie stole her heart. 

His mom is a wonderful gardener and Auggie spends a lot of time w her in the gardens. 

I don’t think he helps. 😊 He supervises. 

Sometimes he goes to visit her mom and gives her some love. 

Auggie found the perfect home.  🥰

LET’S TAKE A TRIP

We all got in the car to go have Mother’s Day dinner w our daughter.  We took the 5 dogs.   Mine are used to going there, 

Piper and Cinnamon curled up together. 

Mistletoe checked out the traffic.  We didn’t let her drive. 😍

Dickens decided he would go to the back. (They were all secured.)

Are we going to see Tuk Tuk, Grsnger, Toasty and GiGi?

My son in law greeted them all. Even Mistletoe wanted to check him out. 

Charlie the cat wasn’t at all phased by our dogs. He’s 18 now but has always been comfortable w the dogs and they’ve never chased him. 

My grandson held Mistletoe and she gazed at him.  (This is a step for her- she is afraid of men.)

She stayed close to me.  So did Dickens. 

Once we got home, they were all ready for the day to end.  

Time to rest. 😴
 

HAPPY SUNDAY BERKELEY

 

I had more adorable pictures of Berkeley and I wanted to do back to back blogs on him.  

In the shelter, he was nervous.  They all are.  It’s not home and they’re confused. 

He’s been safe in rescue and what a difference.  

We can say RELAXED. 

This boy knows how to do it. 

He has such a sweet soul and just wants to be loved.

He’s a wonderful little man.  🥰

MR. BERKELEY

Berkeley is a young Pekingese Chihuahua mix. He was in a shelter and so scared.  We decided to help. 

He’s a little one but he has those Pekingese eyes.  😍

He loves attention. 

Being in your lap is the best place to be. He just wants to be close 

Berkeley would love to be an only dog.  He just wants his own people. 

He will give you smiles every day. 

He is a sweet boy who can get excited some, too.

HAPPY DICKENS

Dickens came into rescue January 2.  He’s part of the Christmas rescue. 

He’s part of the gang here.  Even Paddington will go up to Dickens nose to nose. 

Dickens is a gentle soul.  

He isn’t house trained so he wears a belly band.  We’ve made sure that he has no bladder issues.  He just went so long where he no chance to be trained.  It’s okay little man. 

He learned how to go up the ramp to the couch where he likes to be.  If I don’t put him on the floor, I’ve seen him get on the ramp and slide down w both paws in front. 😄. It’s so cute. 

He is a slow eater.  He was using a raised trough bowl.  It was silicone based but he began to get a rash on his lower lip area.  (Dogs CAN react to plastic type bowls and need stainless steal or glass bowls.)

Now he uses a stainless steel bowl and his mouth is healing.  He now weighs over 15 pounds—up from just over 12 pounds).   He is on regular portions.  I have a baby scale to keep track of all the dogs’ weights.

If I go upstairs, he will wait for me.   He can’t see much, but he knows I’m up there.  (At least 80% vision loss.  I use a flash light at night to help him outside.)

Dickens can use his back legs more.  He won’t have perfect legs but he’s okay w that.  So am I.  I’m so glad he is with us.  He brightens my day! ☀️
