ALLIE MARIE AND SUMMER.

Allie Marie and Oshie are making the best of summer.
They go out on the Occoquan River.
Allie Marie even has a boat.  She lets her mom and dad use it.
She also has a golf cart to use.  It’s awesome that she has a chauffeur.   How many dogs have that?!  Oh wait.  They all have chauffeurs.  It’s us!  ðŸ¤£
The dog days of summer are here but Allie Marie and Oshie  are enjoying every bit of it.  ðŸ˜Ž⚓️

HAPPY NATIONAL DOG DAY

I'm late-- National Dog Day was yesterday.   But, here, every day is dog day.  Paddington is contemplating that.
You'd think I would just have Pekes here.  And that's normal.  But, some others have snuck in.  Barty is my granddog and he's a schnauzer-poodle.   He's a senior, and happy.   He was in horrific condition a few years ago, but life is good now.
Sissy was part of the Potomac Six-- she has continued to battle ear issues and is now on a new regimen of meds and food.   I hope it works!!!   She is super attached to me.  She sleeps by my head.  Look at her smile.
Bogie looks so glum here.  But, he's happy and loves the world.   He thinks everyone he meets is his new best friend.   He still has house training issues, but we continue to work on it.  He had a lot of crystals in his urine, so now he's on a special food and it seems to be helping.   We are doing more tests to try to solve this.  (When dogs come from hoarding situations, their health sometimes takes a long time to get better.)
Piper and Paddington have been here for over 2 1/2 years.  Piper is part poodle and part Llasa we think.  We aren't sure and I haven't done a DNA test on him.    I try not to keep fosters, but my husband fell in love.   (And yes, others have stayed because they weren't adopted, or they were old, or they grew so attached after a long time that we said "you can stay." Most can happily move on to forever homes.)
Minnie continues to live her best life.   She came to us three years ago with PTSD.   I can now handle her (only holding her on my right side), and the other day, she came up to me and pawed my hand.  Wow.  Healing of the heart continues no matter how old they get-- she's over 16.
The couch usually has a few dogs on it.   Zoey loves to be up there.   Bogie climbs the steps to get up on the couch.  He loves it.  Sissy is usually up there, too.
Of course, my grand dog Callie hound is there in the yard.  She really hates to be inside, but we make her come in at night and if we are out.   If a storm hits, she will go through/over/under the fence. :-(   She still has PTSD from being through whatever her life was before.  She's older now and loves her walks with my husband.  He's taught her to sit-- which for an old hound is a big deal.   She lives with us now and sleeps in my closet LOL.
We have a full house and fosters come and go.   Most of the dogs here (and the kids) welcome those who need help.   It's a safe place, but a crazy place.   Zoey says she hopes everyone had a great National Dog Day-- post your pictures below. 💜

ACE AND BACK INJURIES.

ACE
Pekes have long backs— as long as Dachshunds sometimes.  So, it’s not hard to have a back injury.
Ace was trying to follow his mom when he tripped and fell down some steps.   It happens.  (He’s snuggles w his dad here).
If you think your Peke has a back issues, you can look for some of these:
Hunched back
Abnormal walk
Shivering
Loss of appetite
Not wanting to move
Stiffness
There are others.  If you think your dog has injured his/her back, take them to the vet.   An X-ray will probably be done.  Anti inflammatory meds and rest will probably be recommended.   A small area like a bathroom or a playpen work well.   The 4th to 5th day may show improvement. The 2nd and  3rd day may be the worst.  Don’t give up.  Time usually helps.
Bandit is keeping Ace company while he rests.  Don’t worry, sweet one, you’ll feel better soon.

MOE GOES TO THE BEACH

Moe has been in his new home for several months now.
He began to relax and realize he’s home.
He and his sister, Penny, have a stroller.  He is hanging out w her more as he becomes more and more fond of her.   (Penny was one of the Bristol 18.)
Aren’t they precious.  I think Penny likes him, too.
All of them went to the beach.
Moe thought it was great.
Penny liked it, too.
They loved their beach vacation.   Moe is deaf but I’m sure he could feel the waves.
Moe was glad to be home.   Summer is almost over.  Are there any more vacations coming?

HUGO AND SUMMER.

Hugo and his favorite sloth are hanging out together.
He’s thinking, “is summer almost over?”
He’s seen kids going back to school.  Our schools don’t begin until after Labor Day but so many have already started.
Could summer be almost over?   It’s hard to believe.
Hugo is enjoying the summer days while they last.
Lunch out in the city w his mom. He’s such a good boy.  Is your summer still “summer” or are things changing?    Autumn is right around the corner.

LADY ADOPTED

Lady came into rescue from a shelter.
She is 13 years old, but she sure doesn’t look it or act it.  I had SO many people who wanted her.
After we went through our inquiries, and talked to them, we found Lady’s family.   We met on Friday.  Her new human brother shared his iPad w her ❤️❤️
Soon, she was snoring.
She walked into her new home, ready for her next adventure.
Lady likes men, and she instantly loved her new dad.
I think it is mutual. ❤️
Her brother thinks she’s a princess.  (He’s so good w dogs)
There were new beds for her and her Peke brother, Louie.
She wanted to explore upstairs.
And then it was nap time.
She had multiple beds to try.  I think this is Louie’s bed.
She is settling in very well.  There’s love all around.
She is precious. 💖💕

HAPPY SUNDAY FROM BRIDGET

Bridget came to us in May, 2017.    She was turned into the shelter by her owner who could no longer care for her.  She was 14.
The shelter contacted us and we brought her into rescue.
Bridget is 18 now!   She sleeps a lot.  Don’t they all. 😄
Bridget has a new stroller so she can have nice walks.  Walk some. Ride some.

 Bridget days Happy Sunday all!
