BABIES AND PEKES

This little guy came into my life last fall. He's my fourth grandchild, my second grandson. He was early, and small.

And look at him now! He's four months old and he comes to my house every day while his parents work. So, Beach Bit is around Pekes a lot. This got me to thinking. In rescue, we are very careful when we adopt a Peke to a family with young children. A lot of Pekes don't want small kids around-- pulling their ears, taking their toys, getting into their food and water dishes. Beach Bit can't do those things yet, but I wanted to share some pictures of Pekes and kids.

I'm sure Beach Bit would want me to share this, too. Hats can be so funny on babies!

And they look so debonair in them. (I know you're indulging me when I post pictures of my grandkids!)

Max said, "A baby? Really? We keep getting more dogs, but now we're getting a baby every day?"

Cranberry was okay with it as long as it didn't affect her world-- or her ottoman.

Coco Puff (not her best picture) is great with the baby. She really likes it when she can roll all around him,using him as a buffer pad.

Starlight loves using his bouncey chair-- I think it's now HER bouncey chair. Possession is 9 points of the law, and she possesses this chair.

Starlight and Scooter sometimes head to the stairs or second story-- it's quiet up there.

Cranberry wanted a closer look at Beach Bit. He smelled funny.

Let me get a closer sniff.

Beesey Bit was thrilled with Max and Scooter-- and they were mesmerized with her.

Starlight is the BEST around babies. She just adores them.

Of course, Starlight adores Beach Bit-- kisses his feet, his face.....

And if I'm holding Beach Bit on the couch, she has to be up there, close by in case he needs her.

Drill Bit loved the puppies at Jeanne's house.......

And they loved him.

Maximus was great with Drill Bit when he was first in rescue.

Starlight loved Drill Bit, too, when he was a baby-- he's a year old now!

And this is Asher and his dog, Lola. Asher is the one who has the white knuckled grip on Lola. They live in Swaziland, South Africa. I think dogs and their feelings toward babies is universal. My friend writes......" They kept poor Lola away from Asher because they were fearful of her temperamental attitude. Lola who has little use for most humans obviously feels differently about Asher, once she insisted on taking up the nanny post!" So, can dogs and babies be good together. Of course! And as long as owners/parents are good supervisors, all will be safe. :-)

COCO BEAN
Coco Bean was turned over to us from a shelter in Maryland. She is very young-- a year to 18 months. She is very playful and loves people. Just give her a minute to trust them-- she wants to sit back and make sure they are safe first.

She is so pretty. And she loves to sit with you on the couch.

She wants to sit with Max on the couch, also. PLEASE LET ME UP THERE.

I'M COMING.

And here I am!

And I think I'll curl up for a nap.

Did you say something? I keep seeing flashes! Would you put the camera away?

*****Someone told me that "Cleaning up after a child is like shoveling in the middle of a snowstorm." I think this can be applied to Pekingese, too. NEED A PAPER TOWEL?

Cranberry is my nine year old Pekingese. She's the queen here. She is really pretty good. If the dogs don't bother her, she doesn't bother them. And she's doesn't usually get into trouble. But, one day.....

I was in the kitchen, and talking on the phone. I heard something. I looked in the sink-- nothing. I looked around-- nothing. And then, I turned around, and there was a line of paper towels stretching across the kitchen. I bent down to tear it apart and close the door. Otherwise, I could see the whole roll disappearing around the corner.

Starlight and Max were not guilty-- they're just trying to figure out what is going on.

The towels ended here. With Cranberry. Eating.

She had dragged thema long way, the roll of towels turning and turning as she went.

Let's see, is this about a 1/4 of a roll?

She didn't care. She doesn't even act guilty. That's my girl!

ZACK

Zack was one of our foster dogs-- and a foster failure. :-) His foster mom fell in love with him!
The family took a vote and they decided to keep Zack. He plays with his Chihuahua sister who is full of energy! Sometimes, Zack tells her "enough!"

Then, they take a nap-- or look out the front door.

Zack is a happy boy! He goes to work with his mom a lot. I think all jobs should allow them-- of course, nothing would be done because the dogs would be getting a lot of attention from all the co-workers! Thanks, Cris for giving Zack a wonderful home!

PEPPIE

PEPPIE
Peppie came into rescue from a shelter in S.W. Virginia. We don't get many from that area because it's so far from where we are centrally located. But, we now have several volunteers there who are very willing to help! I love our Peke volunteers--we couldn't do it without you!

Peppie wasn't in rescue long when someone fell in love with him. They applied and even gave me a reference from someone who worked at Cesar Milan!! That's a first!

And now Peppie lives there, and you can see he has made himself right at home. Looks like the side of my couch! Usually has a Peke on it, too.

His new mom is beautiful! And she obviously loves Peppie a lot. Thank you for adopting him and giving him a forever home!

NOELLE HOLLY

HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO MY BEAUTIFUL DAUGHTER!!! SHE IS MOM TO LIL BIT, BITTY BIT AND DRILL BIT. I LOVE HER SO MUCH!!!! HAPPY BIRTHDAY, SUGAR!

Noelle Holly came into rescue in December with her brother, Nick.

They had been kept in a cold room, not fed much (if at all), and neglected. They were only about a year old. I'll never understand mistreatment.

She didn't understand it either.

Tracey, one of our adopters, said she would foster Noelle and it was love at first sight. Tracey has five of her own, so she couldn't keep Noelle-- but she could sure love her until a home was found.

Her daughter loved Noelle, too, and was very sad to hear we had a home for her. This is the hard part of fostering. Letting them go.

Her new mom was so excited to meet Noelle! She was in love already, and I'm sure it will be no time before Noelle loves her.

I know she will be cared for and pampered and loved. That's what we want.

Maybe she'll even have a Pekingese friend some day.

And she can live with her new family the rest of her life!
