DESI GOES ON VACATION

 Diva Desi went on vacation to a cabin in the woods.    She took her parents, Lucinda and Roger, along.    They had to drive.   She found a rocker on the porch that is just fine for relaxing.

 She took along a few of her Peke friends, also.

Will someone open the door and let her in?   Little Divas don't open their own doors.  Besides, she's not tall enough.

 There is even a welcome sign.      Oh, there's a bear on that.   They didn't see any bears though, except the Peke named Bear who went, too.

 I can tell Desi packed her dresses.   Even if you are in the woods, you can still be stylish.

She had a wonderful time there, and she and her parents hope to be going back soon.   I wonder if they'll invite us?

I had to show you the quilt Eve made for Lucinda.    It's beautiful.  I have quite a few things that Eve made.   We are doing a quilt show in Richmond to raise money for our fosters.     I think the quilt is beautiful at Lucinda's!   

LING LING ADOPTED!

Ling Ling is being adopted by his foster mom's daughter.    They realized how much they loved this boy and they wanted him to stay in the family.

We are so happy for Ling Ling!!

BENEFITS OF OLDER PETS

 I love the seniors.   I have a few of them in my family now (Scooterbug and Cranberry are 11 now).    We have some older Pekingese in rescue and they deserve a home of their own.  (We have special adoption fees for older ones, just ask us.)

 Bingo is one of those seniors.    There are a lot of benefits to adopting a senior.    They take less time to train-- They have already been housetrained and may even know a few commands.   "Sit, Bingo." :-)

 Teddy Henry Bear was adopted by a wonderful family.  They saw his beauty, not his age.   Seniors are less likely to chew or scratch things they shouldn't.    They are ready to be devoted to you and love you unconditionally.

 Pudge is available for adoption-- he's older, but has a lot of time and love left in him.    He's easy going and less active than a puppy.    He goes to work with his foster mom and is content to rest while she is busy.    Older pets are okay with just being laid back during the day. 

 Chip is a senior at 9 years old.  Actually, I don't think that's old for a Peke.   That's just middle age.   Older pets can live longer than expected when they are shown the right amount of love and care.    You can change an older pet's life by adopting them and giving them that life sustaining love.

 Puji is only 8-9, but he is fighting for his life with liver failure.  He's with our Roanoke vet, Lucinda and Roger Hodges.    He is getting extraordinary care with them.   We hope he pulls through and will be adopted to a wonderful home. 

Alastor is also one we got who was very sick-- he had a high heart murmur, but now he's gained 3 pounds and had a dental and is doing great.   You wouldn't know he was older.     The senior pets can give you what you didn't even realize you wanted-- compansionship.    Older pets crave companionship, too, so they are perfectly content to curl up with you when you watch TV.      PLEASE CONSIDER ADOPTING AN OLDER PET.   JUST CONTACT US IF YOU WOULD LIKE ONE OF OUR SPECIAL SENIOR PEKES-- POTOMACPEKES@GMAIL.COM    

BEAR BEAR UPDATE

 I received an email from Bear Bear.   Bear came into rescue in July and his eyes made me feel I could see right into his heart.   Oh, if I could just keep them all.

 Here's his email:    Hi Aunt Jeanne, Aunt Linda, and Aunt Kim,

 I just wanted to thank you all for being so good to me until I found my new home.      I'm getting more comfortable here with each passing day.

 I love my big backyard and I run around every day.

 I don't like baths very much, but mom says I have to take them to keep me clean.

 I love snuggling with my new parents-- and my comfy bed is great also.

I'm been itchy and sneezy, but we're working on getting my allergies under control.     I hear a  lot of dogs are having trouble with the autumn here.     I hope you are all doing well!

A FOREVER DOG

 Before you take me home, please understand that I am a forever dog.  (Peka at my house.)

 I am not an "until you are bored with me" dog.   (Who could be bored with Peka!!)

 I am not an "until you find a boyfriend" dog.

 I am not an "until I get old" dog.  (Gracious, Didi, Jill and Sassy Marie)

 I am not an "until you have to move" dog.  

I am not an "until you get a new puppy" dog.

 I am not an "until you get tired of me" dog.

I AM A FOREVER DOG.   IF YOU CANNOT PROMISE FOREVER, I AM NOT YOUR DOG.

MAX AND KAI KAI

Here's Max and Kai Kai.   These are two dogs I fostered that no one ever wanted.  WHY?? I don't get it.   They are great dogs and once they were with me a year, they became mine.   MINE.  No one can have them now-- but they sure missed out!   I love these two-- and here they are vegging on the couch, together, not a care in the world. :-)     Such sweet boys.

TONY GOES HOME

Remember Tony?     We got him out of a shelter near me.    Toni (his foster  mom) went to pick him up.   He was a 13 year old Pekingese who had been taken to the shelter by his owner.   

His dad loved this boy so much!    But, he had been told he couldn't keep him anymore, so he took him to the shelter.    (The person who told him this was later fired.   His Dad is in an assisted living facility and was allowed to have his dog there.)

 If we hadn't taken Tony, he would have been euthanized.    You see, he was a senior boy and they just aren't adopted much at shelter.     He was neutered and had a dental when we said we'd take him.     (Here he is exploring his home again.)

We kept him in foster care and his foster mom, Toni, took him to see his dad-- it made his day!    Toni asked the directors about why Tony couldn't be there since other dogs were there-- and found out he could be.

 I want to thank Toni for being willing to take in this senior boy-- without her, he would have been put down.   Because she took him to her home, he had a second chance at life.    And he got to go home to be with his daddy again-- for good!

The home has all our information and if there's an emergency, we'll be called to get Tony.    But, he is so happy to be with his dad again and his dad is thrilled to have him.    THANK YOU Toni for being that bridge of life for him!    You are my hero!
