MOI MOI AND COCO-- WINTER!

 Moi Moi and Coco were getting a winter brushing.   Yes, winter.

 Coco says, "don't you know it's cold here?   We live in Australia."

 Their hair has grown out from summer cuts and needs more upkeep.

 So, their mom does the "old beauty parlor brush out."  

 Melinda, their mom, said their coats are really full this year-- does that mean it's going to be really cold?

 I don't think she wants to hear that!

 "Did you say COLDER?"

 Those thick coats keep them warmer, but they still don't stay out long.

"It's not as much fun as spring and fall-- let's go inside!"

"Are you ready?"

"Here we go!"

JJ AND CHARLIE-- AN ADORABLE PAIR

 This is Charlie.   He was turned into a shelter with his brother, JJ.    They are nine (Charlie) and twelve (JJ), but act much younger.

 I have trouble keeping them straight!   JJ is darker, and Charlie and has of a light brown color.   I think I'm right.  

 They came to the picnic and loved meeting people.  

 Charlie is so cute!

 Oh, my, are you giving me a raspberry?    I don't think you would do that.

 Look at that smile!

 They had photos at Desi's Photo Booth at the picnic and did so well!

 And here's JJ.   He was posing, too.

 Oh, look at that face-- he's ready for his close up!

  We would love to find a home together for these two sweet boys.  They are very attached to each other.   

They haven't had much luck with homes, and really want a forever home.     

If you're interested in this great duo, just let us know.    I love the seniors-- they deserve a forever home, just like the rest.  

PEKE MEETING

Our next general meeting is going to be at Jeanne's house.   For those who have supported Lexie, she may be at the meeting if you want to meet her.    (It depends on a "vet okay" for her to be there.)  

 Come see all her beautiful flowers.

 Come see her Pekes and friends!  And the chickens, of course.

 Come enjoy Jeanne's garden and the sound of her water features for a relaxing time!

 And her gazing balls-- and a new one made of pennies.

LEXIE-- DOING BETTER!

 I'll do one more blog on Lexie-- I hope you're not tired of her yet. :-)    Here she was at the end of a long day yesterday.    She was going through the porch doggy door, and was going to rest!

 You see, we had to go to the vet again.   She had to have a recheck blood test and we had an ultra sound done to make sure she had no internal bleeding.    Her bloodwork was UP-- 8 more points!! YAHOO.  This means she is beginning to make her own red blood cells.     And the ultra sound showed she was not having any internal bleeding, no tumors.    She is definitely on the upswing!

 She had so many IV fluids at the vet while she was there overnight (on Thursday/Friday), and she had an accident in her xpen overnight on Friday evening.   So, when we got home from the vet on Saturday, I knew she would feel better if she was cleaned up.    And since she was more stable, I gave her a quick bath and cream rinse.   Oh, the look!

 She was so good-- and I blew her dry on low.    

 "Do I really have to do this?"

 Yes, sweet girl, we do.

 After she was dry, we went out in the yard again.    

She walked around a bit, did her business, and then came inside for a nice nap.    I will do updates on facebook and an occasional blog, but I think that Lexie is going to make it!   I'm so thrilled.

FAREWELL PAULA POUND PUPPY

 Paula came to us from a Maryland shelter.   We were told she was an "unaltered six year old" who was listed as adoptable.    We got her and she was NOT six.

 In fact, through a lot of "roadways" we found her original owners and this was a picture of Paula when she was younger.

 Marilyn was her foster mom, and her Jelly took Paula under his wing.   He would curl up with her to give her company.

 It turned out that Paula was almost 15 when we got her (we found out her birthday) and she was blind and almost deaf.     But, did we turn out back on her-- not a chance.    She became a permanent foster that lived 9 1/2 months of love and care and good food and lots of attention.    

Yesterday, I talked to Marilyn who felt Paula was not doing well.   Today, she declined rapidly and died about 1:00 in the afternoon.    Marilyn loved this little girl so much, and I know it is a huge loss for her.   Thank you, Marilyn, for all you did for her and for giving her over nine months of incredible care.    She was so blessed to have you.   Rest in peace, little one-- and run free!

LEXIE HOME

 I visited Lexie at the vet on Thursday and she was rolled over on her back-- she was comfortable this way.   She let me hand feed her and never bothered to  move.    She had finished her first transfusion and her numbers came up a little, but then she had to have a second one, and stay on IV fluids overnight.  

Friday morning, I visited her again, bringing chicken with  me :-).    She was doing better, seemed more stable according to her bloodwork and was able to come home.    She has to return this morning for bloodwork, but it should be a fast visit.    THANK YOU to all who have helped with her care!  You are the best!  Erica, thank you for coming to visit!!    Erica was the reason we were able to get Lexie, so give her kudos!!

LEXIE UPDATE

 Lexie was given a blood transfusion yesterday and also had her spleen xrayed and more bloodwork done.   And why is she going through all this?    Because she had hookworms.  

 Lexie's medical records (the owner did give me those) indicated chronic issues with worms, diahrea and vomiting over her entire life of five years.    She was so sick when I got her on Saturday, had diahrea, and was very very anemic.  

 Click here: Hookworms | Pets & Parasites: The Pet Owner's Parasite Resource   Hookworms can cause serious blood loss, and death can occur without transfusions.    They can become dehydrated, and anemic, and lose weight-- Lexie had all of this.    Her condition was chronic, long-term and critical.  On top of all that, we found out that Lexie also has a double-bacteria bladder infection and will be on antibiotics 3 times a day.   She is a little fighter and we're doing all we can for her.

I talked to the vet last evening and they had begun a second transfusion.    Her spleen is enlarged, but not as bad as the vet thought and this is also from the anemia caused hookworms.    Thank you to all of you who made such generous donations!   We will need them.  But, I'm determined this little girl will pull through.  I visited with her and she ate food off my fingers.   She is on IV fluids and had to stay at the vet all night.   I'll update you as the day continues-- check out facebook.    She is on her back in all these pictures because she likes to be that way-- she was alert and happy to see me.   Love that girl!
