THANKSGIVING SAFETY

Mattie B is resting up for Thanksgiving.   He might be dreaming of goodies that might fall from the table.
 Chien is, too.
Wu's mom posted this picture from three years ago-- Wu is ready for the holiday!
As we begin holiday decorating, Stewart found one of the trees that we had begun putting lights on. He knows that I won't give him anything that isn't good for him.  And there are a lot of holiday "treats" that just aren't good for dogs.
You might want to give your dog little bits of turkey-- but it can cause pancreatitis in some dogs.  Also, the onions that you might put in your stuffing/dressing could be poisonous for dogs.   You also want to make sure they don't get sweets-- especially those with artificial sweetners in them.  Xylitol can be deadly for dogs.  And if your dog likes to help make pies, don't let them get pieces of dough.  They can cause gas and even bloating in your dogs tummy-- not a good feeling!  Keep the trash under the secure cabinet or in the pantry where your dog can't get it.
Callie Hound is an expert at getting into trash, so it's extra important to make sure it is not where she can get it.  Bones, turkey, chocolate, and toxic plants (Baby's Breath, Hydrangeas, ferns...) can be very toxic.   Another safety tip is to make sure your dog has his tags on in case he/she gets out with all the holiday visitors.  (And if your pet is traveling with you, make sure your have their health information, especially a rabies certificate.  Crating in cars or pet seat belts are a must for safe travel.)

If your pet does get into something, call the Poison Control Hotline.  There is a fee and they can be in contact with your vet for the care needed.
Have a safe and happy Thanksgiving!!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY MONK AND NIPPY

Sometimes, I just like to go down memory lane-- here are Monk and Nippy when they came into rescue in 2011.
 They were the cutest puppies...
They were three years old when we got them-- their owner could no longer care for them.
They were fostered and adopted by Georgia.
They are foster brothers to Luna now.
Nippy and Monk just turned 11-- so it's HAPPY Sunday and HAPPY BIRTHDAY, too!!  Have a great day!

EVENING CALM

It was dark last night, but Piper still watched over the yard.  I don’t think he could see much.
I love our porch.  Even on chilly evenings, an afghan makes it cozy.

My daughters gave me this heater lantern for my birthday, so we sat close and just took time to decompress.
Minnie and the rest of the dogs were there, too.  They weren’t going to be left out.  Or should I say INside.
And then back inside where Stewart curled up in the couch and dreamed of sugar plums.   What did you do last night? 🥰

FINLEY--FOSTER FAILURE

Finley came into rescue when his mom had to go into a nursing home.   His dad had died suddenly, so Finley needed help.
Robin agreed to foster him temporarily-- she's busy taking care of her mom.
Finley reminded Robin of her Beethoven, who had died of cancer when he was 7.  So young.
He settled in with Robin and ...
 he relaxed in her home.
He is a beautiful boy and only 3 years old.
He had to be neutered and have all the tests done we do, but he finally had his e-collar off.
The longer he was there, the more in love Robin fell with him.
He brought joy to her heart in a time where she needed it a lot.
So, Robin asked if she could keep him.   He had a wonderful applicant, but when a foster mom falls in love, we let her adopt.  Robin needed Finley--Fin-- and Fin was her own heart healer.   Welcome to your forever home!!  💙❤️

LITTLE BIT "BITTY" -- THE LAP WARMER

Bitty is a great dog-- yes, he's blind.
But, he has a mission.
He loves being a lap warmer.
He knows when his foster dad sits down and he can find him. Being on a lap is the best.
Sometimes, he is content to nap on the floor, too.
But, cuddling is much better.
"Are you there somewhere?"
Bitty is ten years old and ended up in a shelter, then our rescue, because his owner died.
He deserves a wonderful forever home.  If you are interested in adopting him, please fill out an application:  https://www.potomacpekes.org/onlineapplicationadopt.htm

SWEET MINNIE

Margie sent all the big stuffies to us.  They are big dog toys w squeakers in them.
Sugar Bit loves them and has claimed some as her own.
We put the rest on the end if the couch and Minnie posed w them.
Minnie must have known I was sad that Max, the Old Gentleman, had left us, and she came to me to get on the couch.   This may not sound like much, but Minnie, w her PTSD, never wants to be held or get on furniture.  She likes to be close, but not on the furniture w me.
Thank you Minnie for easing my heart a little. 💖

STEWART GETS A BATH

Stewart has been here over a week.  It's amazing how he has figured things out.
I have several special dogs at my house-- they are all special, but some have more needs   Kai Kai has no eyes.  Like Stewart.  And like Kai Kai, Stewart has limited hearing.   It doesn't get in his way.   He lost his eyes when he was a year old, and so it's his normal.
His skin wasn't in great shape, but the meds have made a HUGE difference.  I'm so relieved!   His belly is so much better.
He needed another bath-- when they have skin issues, it's so important to keep it clean, making it fresh, so that it can heal.
You can see how skinny he is, but I weighed him on my baby scale and he has gained some weight.  WOOHOO.  (If you want to gift a rescue person, a baby scale is a great gift-- unless they have big dogs haha.)
I put him in the dog drying area-- aka the laundry basket-- so he wouldn't wander off.
He was SO GOOD!!  He didn't move around and enjoyed the warm air.
And after his bath,I had to find a holiday harness that would show off his beautiful hair.   (Thank you Joy for these!!)
And then I put his coat back on to make sure he was warm after his bath.  He is such a sweet dog-- he will bless a new home with his sweet personality.  ❤️
