THANKSGIVING SAFETY

Mattie B is resting up for Thanksgiving.   He might be dreaming of goodies that might fall from the table.
 Chien is, too.
Wu's mom posted this picture from three years ago-- Wu is ready for the holiday!
As we begin holiday decorating, Stewart found one of the trees that we had begun putting lights on. He knows that I won't give him anything that isn't good for him.  And there are a lot of holiday "treats" that just aren't good for dogs.
You might want to give your dog little bits of turkey-- but it can cause pancreatitis in some dogs.  Also, the onions that you might put in your stuffing/dressing could be poisonous for dogs.   You also want to make sure they don't get sweets-- especially those with artificial sweetners in them.  Xylitol can be deadly for dogs.  And if your dog likes to help make pies, don't let them get pieces of dough.  They can cause gas and even bloating in your dogs tummy-- not a good feeling!  Keep the trash under the secure cabinet or in the pantry where your dog can't get it.
Callie Hound is an expert at getting into trash, so it's extra important to make sure it is not where she can get it.  Bones, turkey, chocolate, and toxic plants (Baby's Breath, Hydrangeas, ferns...) can be very toxic.   Another safety tip is to make sure your dog has his tags on in case he/she gets out with all the holiday visitors.  (And if your pet is traveling with you, make sure your have their health information, especially a rabies certificate.  Crating in cars or pet seat belts are a must for safe travel.)

If your pet does get into something, call the Poison Control Hotline.  There is a fee and they can be in contact with your vet for the care needed.
Have a safe and happy Thanksgiving!!
