LEWIS GINTER CENTER IN RICHMOND

I wanted to let you all know that Anna, my very special foster Peke, was adopted!!! She came in with the missing jaw, in horrible, skinny condition. She blossomed and can eat fine. And she has such a beautiful personality. She now has her own forever home in Northern Virginia-- I'm SO GLAD. Anna deserved that so much. ++++++++++++++ ++++++++++++++++ +++++++

It's summertime, kids are out of school. Many of us don't have kids in school now, but I have grandchildren (the best in the world and one more on the way!!). The Lewis Ginter Center in Richmond is a place they could spend the day and never get bored. There is a glass show going on there right now.

My friend, and co-director, Jeanne, sent me these pictures. They are amazing.

I love this one-- I wonder if they ever fall in? You know, accidentally on a hot day.

I think this one is stunning!!! I'm looking for a glass Pekingese.

This one is amazing also!! Don't you want to run your fingers through it! Is that water coming down-- or is it all glass? I'm going to find out when I take my grandkids!!

This should like a glass space inspired model.

What does this blog have to do with Pekingese?? Absolutely nothing-- other than my Peke friend, Jeanne, sent it to me. So, Pekes, you have to stay home. Like Starlight, kissing my granddaughter "Bitty Bit." I'm sure Starlight would love to go, but she would be her "terrible self" there and probably get us kicked out. So, she WILL stay home-- but I'll take "Bitty Bit" with me!! And "Lil' Bit" and "Drill Bit" and my friend, Jeanne of course!

JESSIE'S PEKES/PUPPY BUMPERS

JESSIE'S PEKES

These are Jessie's Pekes. She has volunteered to be a foster mom in N.Va. We need more help in that area as we have a small number of volunteers who can help with transport up there. Jessie's Sadie is above. Isn't she cute!

Here she is again-- How did you frame the pictures Jessie? I don't know how to do that.

Here is Sadie's brother, Sid. He reminds me of my Max-- notice the ball with him? :-) My Max LOVES his tennis balls. Yes, Sid, you are a handsome boy-- and you look so sweet!

Sid is a Peke who hates to be alone and loves to be with his people and sister. He loves to sleep upstairs with his parents-- and like Max, if you leave him downstairs, he will bark at night. Are Max and Sid secretly related??? Sid will also jump into the shower. My Max will not do that! haha

Sadie is very loving and always wants affection. She likes to sleep downstair, but unlike her brother, she will stay quiet all night.

I think she is sleeping now-- SHHHH.

Syd and Sadie will be two years old next month, so Happy Birthday early! I wonder if they will get a birthday cake? Or a new toy? A Peke can never have enough toys--

Sid has that Peke tongue going-- I keep telling you, they just won't fit in their mouths!!

Best friends! When they get a foster, I'm sure they'll welcome him with open paws. We're just looking for the right one!

COCOA-- COCKER SPANIEL IN NEED

Cocoa is an 8 year old, 27 pound Cocker Spaniel. He is in desperate need of rescue. His owners can no longer afford to take care of him, and it is very diffficult for them to let him go. If you can take Cocoa as your own pet, or as a rescue, please let me know at haveninhim@aol.com Cocoa has been greatly loved, and would not do well in a shelter. Please send this on to anyone who can help-- time is critical.

AMY-- ADOPTED!!!

Remember sweet Amy? She was in foster care a long time, waiting for that perfect home for her. She is such a sweet girl. We were willing to wait for that home.

She was fostered at Jeanne's in Richmond-- and she had a lot of dog buddies there.

They would get on their kuranda dog beds together. There's nothing like having a best friend to cuddle up with.

But, someone WANTED Amy!! And the wait was worth it! Jeanne got her all beautiful and even put a red bow on her. And off she went to her new home.

She loves her new home! She watches her new mom cooking. Maybe a bite will drop to the floor.

She's licking her lips-- maybe a bite DID fall!

She has a new best friend at her new home. I think they're checking each other out.

Or just vegging out in the kitchen -- that's good, too.

They look like little Peke book-ends. Yes, I think this home was worth waiting for. :-)

PLAY DAY AT LINDA'S

PLAY DAY AT LINDA'S
One of my friends who adopted from me now lives down the street. She adopted Ricky SIX YEARS ago! Wow, has it been that long? She also has a puppy maltese who is Ricky's best friend. They came over for a play day. Well, it was also bath day here-- so with her permission, hers got a bath too. I even trimmed their nails! (I'm learning to do this after ALL the years I've owned dogs-- aren't you proud of me haha.)

LJ, the Maltese, sure looks funny wet. But, it didn't get in his way at all. He was still playing with the gumballs on the deck.

Oh, more gumballs! He was barking at them, running around. I gated the deck, so they could sun dry and then be brushed. They loved it. It was a warm day, and there was cool water and a big fan. I was tempted to stop the baths, and climb into the hammock and enjoy the deck with them. :-)

Ricky, sweet Ricky, had a bath, too. What a good boy he is!

I know you don't want to be brushed, LJ, but you will be. (He was so good about it.) He's likes to talk!

Okay, we see your pretty self. You've played all day and now it's time to take a nap while I get myself cleaned up. After five dog baths, I need a clean-up and brushing myself.

Look at how pretty Ricky is. He has a summer cut (no, I didn't do it), and is so handsome. LJ is still talking about the bath!

Yes, LJ, you DO have to stay in the laundry room for awhile. You can just rest.

I see you're going to be a good sport about it now.

Ricky has already found the bed and LJ is about to join him for an afternoon nap. Naps are wonderful. I see a few toys up there with you.

AMELIA-- HOME!

Look at this face-- this is Amelia's shelter picture. Not too sure about what is going on in her life-- you can see it in her eyes. After being fostered at Beth and David's, she was adopted. She now has a Peke brother named Paddington Bear "Paddy." Look at his tongue sticking out. Pekes and their tongues-- they're just too long to fit!

Amelia has big expressive eyes and is so sweet. She loves everyone. And everyone loves her back.

She seems perfectly at home with her new family-- her new dad has already started to bond with Amelia and is impressed with Amelia's energy and the abundance of her kisses! Amelia does love to kiss!! Her new mom took a pic of her and Paddy snoozing in close proximity. They looked up to have their pix taken. She said Paddy always has that worried look, so don't be fooled -She said it's a trick he uses to worm cookies out of her. His tongue is out because he is very relaxed, he's not razzing Amelia! (You're so funny, Fiona!)

Did you say cookie? I think Amelia heard that!!

It was hard for her foster parents to let her go-- that's normal! We foster parents love our foster Pekes like they're our own. And letting them go can be hard-- but it's the ony way we can help the next one who needs our help. Amelia's new mom said we are the "bridge." I love that-- the bridge from a shelter to a loving home. I'm good with being a bridge. Some Pekes camp on the bridge a bit in the process, but most do move on. :-)

Amelia's new mom and dad love her so much already-- they say they'll keep us posted on her adventures, and we'll love that! They've kept me updated on Paddington, who they adopted over three years ago. I love hearing from our adoptive owners. It's makes my heart smile.

Amelia had a busy day-- I think she's snoozing.......

She sure is. And now-- AWAKE! That face just melts our hearts. Amelia slept all night her first night there and then woke her parents up with kisses. Her foster mom said, "Thanks for matching us with another wonderful pet. " It's our pleasure!!! THANK YOU for adopting them!
