ABBEY PEKE PUPPY-- WHAT A VISIT!

Abbey came to me when her mom needed surgery.

We thought she would be here less than a week, but it turned into almost three weeks.

After a few days, she settled right into the routine.  She became one of the family.

Starlight and her buddies here are all older, so it was an adjustment to have a young whipper-snapper here!

Abbey got into Matt's shoes.

Literally!  She put her head right in them.

Yes you did!

She helped me do laundry.

She monitored the creek.

She kept Kai Kai company.

She loved the grandkids.

She found lots of new toys.

She and Chumley had matching dumbell tennis balls.

She went home this past week-end and I'm staying in touch with her mom.   She was excited to see them, but it's quiet here!    Look for more tomorrow!

PEKE ANGELS

I wanted to share just one picture today.   It's a little Peke who was lost in my area.   It wandered down the street and a Peke angel saw it and brought it into her home.  Several friends messaged me about this one, and gave me a phone number.   I called and let her know that instead of going to a shelter, we could help this little one.  Of course, we would still try to find the owner, contact the shelter with all the information, and help it find its way home if possible.   The finder took the Peke to her vet, where a microchip was found.  (Please microchip and keep a tag on your pets.)  AND the owner was contacted and the little Peke went home.   I'm so glad-- and so was the owner!   I'm so glad there are Peke angels out there!
Please have your vet check to make sure the microchip is still present-- at your yearly pet exam.  Microchips can come out, move and be hard to find.  Also please please update your information.  You may think your vet has done this or that a shelter has put your name on your adopted pet, but this is not always the case.  Most of the time YOU must do this!!  This is so important.

FAREWELL GRACE

 Grace came into rescue in 2011 after her owner died.   She was 7 years old and had had a rough time before we got her.  She was only ten pounds, a tiny one.  Her condition and mental state showed she must have gone through a lot when she was in her home. The other dogs, like her, were in terrible condition.

 Grace learned that people could be good.  She was clean, vetted, given good food and lots of love.

 She was first with Roger and Lucinda and then went to Kim for fostering.  

 She went on a home visit and met Teddy, who became her brother and best friend.

 They loved to be together.  In a pile of leaves...

 or on the steps, all dressed up.

 Grace lived in her new home for over five years before Cushings Disease and severe arthritis took her.   She received so much love during that time, and her mom is devastated by the loss.  

Run free now, sweet girl-- you were so loved.  

GRANGER DANGER

 Granger (formerly Digger) was adopted from us by my daughter.  He lives on The Farm.

 Granger can be the sweetest boy-- but he likes to escape.  And he got stuck!  They had to saw the post to rescue him from this dilemma.

 He also like to dig!  Oh, boy, does he like to dig!

 You may think THIS is Granger-- but it's not.  It's Bradley, also adopted from us.  I think they must be twins.

 The penalty of digging is a bath.   Granger and his sister, GiGi, were both given a spa treatment after making a mess of themselves.

Granger can be such a cuddle bug.

 Adored by his family, he is also called The Chosen One-- even though he can be a BAD DOG-- digging for example!

 But, he is loved, regardless.

I'm sure this angelic face will soon have dirt on it again.  Yes, I would bet on it.

BABY SEATS

Most people use baby seats for babies-- but in our house, they are used for Pekingese.  Of course, we had babies here, grandbabies--The Bits--- but now we just have one bouncy seat and the Pekes love it.   Granger was in it while he visited (my daughter's Peke, also know as The Chosen One. LOL)

 We kept one bouncy seat because Starlight loves them.  She thinks they are just for her, but...

 Sometimes, Sugar Bit still gets in them.  Just for fun.  

 Why Kai Kai tries to get in them is a mystery.  But, he does and it wobbles and weaves.

 He probably tries because it was in the spot of his regular bed.  (So, it was later moved.)

 He settled in though.

Abbey Peke decided she wasn't going to get in.  She would rather be on the table.

 Or a chair.

 Any table will do.

 She will be going home soon-- it will be quiet here without her!

GENGHIS

In rescue, we take in dogs from shelters, owners.... 

 A Maryland shelter asked us to take this one.  Can we say CUTE!

 He was very timid in the shelter and they were hoping we could put him into a foster home to help.  Yes we could!

 Sometimes, though, things don't go entirely to the plan I have.  And this one was one of those.   A friend went to pick him up.   She has adopted from us and is a fabulous owner-- I love her!   So when she asked if she could keep him, or course, I said yes!   She was fully approved to adopt, so I knew he was in a great place.   After much debate, they decided to name him Genghis.

 Barbara, his mom, and Lara, his human sister, send me the funniest stories and pictures of him.    (That's Aeneas photo-bombing there.)  Genghis was directing traffic here.  He trying to take over the world.

 His mom said, "The little Genghis has the best time everyday jumping, flying ,throwing toys, racing nonstop thru the house. He is a force to be reckoned with."

 "He also is very attuned to sounds.  He loves music to be played and he cocks his head at many junctures."

 "He loves the cello sounds, he rotates his head; moves his ears back and forth. I have never had a dog do this."

"He is adored by us and tolerated by his canine friends."  This is not our "regular path" in rescue, but Genghis sure ended up in the best spot he could have!!   Thank you, Barbara and Lara!  Keep sending me the stories and pictures.

DOGS LIVE....

Dogs live in the moment, but they remember so much.   It's our job to give them a wonderful life.  Here are some ideas.  

 Don't be annoyed when I jump all over you the second you walk through the door.  I have missed you and just want to show it. (Jolene and her friend)

Comfort me when I'm scared.  Unlike me, you're used to all the noise and busy streets and general hustle and bustle of human life.   I always feel safe when I'm with you.  (Gus and Coco)

 Talk to me.  We may not speak the same language, but the sound of your voice always brightens my day.  (Gus and his friends)

 Don't leave me outside-- I love to be where you are.  (Midnight)

 Show me that humans can be loving and are not filled with hate.   If you treat me well, I'll be your best friend forever.  (Simba and his mom)

 Give me the freedom to be a bit wild and get a bit dirty.   Sometimes I see a big puddle or an inviting lake and I just can't help myself.  (Simba)

 Learning new tricks helps to keep me sharp.   It keeps me in shape and most importantly, it give me the chance to impress you.   I love it when you're proud of me. (Sophie)

People are born so they can learn how to lead a good life.

That means loving others and being a good person every day.
