LuLu Again-- and Friends

Fran and her pups (and family!) just moved to California. The dogs are making the adjustment to her beautiful new home and nice yard. LuLu the Peke is definitely the alpha dog there-- bossy mama to them all.

Bambi Belle is timid, but doing great. Fran rescued her and Taco from a breeder who was just going to throw them away to a shelter.
Taco takes time out for an itch. Look at his coloring!!
Sweet Nubby just likes to be anywhere that she is loved.
And LuLu Belle is queen over her domain and her subjects (dogs and people). She is checking out her new surroundings and wonders what the big water feature (pool) is all about! I do NOT think she's going to take up swimming. :-)
Her mom sent me this note: "Lu was curious about the pool and would run to the edge when I was swimming. I carried her in with me and she seemed to really like the warm water on her, she had such a good time, every time I'd carry her out to the edge she'd run back and whine for me to carry her back in. I guess it cooled her off as well. (Don't worry, the pool is treated with green cleaners because of my allergy to overly chlorinated pools.) Nubby, Taco and Bell do not like it."
Lu has also made a new friend, her owner's father in law's Lab Bubba. He's an older dog and Lu enjoys following him around. Her mom said it's cute because he comes up to our bedroom door and she meets him there in the morning and waits for me to open up the door for her. They have a big size difference and they have the same color coat. We'll have pictures of them together soon.
LuLu is taking a little time getting used to California, but I know she'll love the nice weather, laying by the pool and spending time with her mom.
We have quite a few of our adopted dogs who have moved to California-- Maxwell, Tyler, Max (not the one I have now), Cooper, Dexter (with their Jelly Belly friend) and now LuLu Belle. I think there's a "Westward Ho" movement going on!!

Clarence at Work

FOR THOSE WHO CHECK THE BLOG AT 7:00 AM WHEN IT SUPPOSED TO COME ON, THERE IS A PROBLEM ON THE BLOG. THE SCHEDULING IS SOMEHOW OFF, SO I HAVE TO GO ON TO MANUALLY POST IT. THANKS, JANE, FOR LETTING ME KNOW THERE WAS A PROBLEM!! IF YOU KNOW HOW I CAN FIX THIS, LET ME KNOW. ;-)
++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
Remember Clarence-- we got him before Christmas, so I named him after the Christmas angel in "It's a Wonderful Life."

This is Clarence at work-- REALLY!! His mom takes him to work a lot and while there, Clarence works hard right along with her. Can you tell?? I think he's working hard at sleepiing!!

LULU MOVES TO CALIFORNIA

Here's LuLu again! She's such a beauty-- And she loves attention from her mom!
LuLu and her family moved to California. LuLu was adopted last year and I had the pleasure of becoming friends with her family, especially her new mom. I kind of became her Virginia Mom-- a pleasure for me.
Taco is ready to leave Virginia! The family and dogs drove across country in four days!

Here's their couch and house "slogan." It means "Always Kiss Me Goodnight" and hangs over their bed. That's so sweet!
They are setting up the dining room.
And their dogs new outside areas are wonderful.
AND A POOL-- oh, I'm officially jealous. (Don't worry, dogs are safe!)
LuLu is checking out her new yard.
And she checks out the inside (with her eyes close and napping!) with Bambi Belle, the Chihuahua.
And back outside again with Nubby, her best friend. I love Nubby!! :-)
And LuLu's mom and dad got married last week-- I wanted to be there, but it's a little far. I was there in my heart though!! Here's her bouquet. Isn't it beautiful!

Happy Wedding, Happy Dogs, Happy New Home! God's blessings on you all!

Chien-Chien

This is Chien-Chien. I was able to get her out of a shelter in Roanoke, VA last year. My granddaughter was my rescue partner and was a great help!!
Chien-Chien is so pretty.
She has huge eyes that take everything in.
Look at the look she is giving the camera! Whoa-- don't take anymore pictures. :-)
And it's time to rest.
Chien-Chien has a beautiful red coat.
Chien-Chien lives in Maryland now and is adored by her owner. I can certainly see why!

Sushi

Sushi is a beautiful MALE Pekingese. I emphasize the "MALE" because I was calling him a her. Oh, the trauma I must have caused this precious dog. So sorry Sushi!!

Look at these eyes-- don't you just want to hug him!

Sushi is a beautiful boy. I love how he can curl up anywhere-- and look so comfortable.

He won the Conklyn’s Florist of Alexandria 2008 Halloween Contest. Look how cute he is!!

He was adopted at the end of May 2008 from a family litter from up in Maryland. His owners chose his name due to the significance that Sushi was actually first founded in China and not in Japan as most people think.

He's a puppy here, and he's having a blast in the sand!

He was vacationing at Hilton Head, SC. He is a total beach dog!! I bet he got a bath as soon as he got home.

Sushi has 2 Cat sisters (Endora 3 and Esmerelda 2) that immediately adopted him and love to play with and wrestle with him. Sushi loves hanging out with his owners at the Shirlington dog park and riding in the car. He loves to go to visit the family farm in Lewisburg, WV.

Sushi also loves getting dressed up in his Ralph Lauren designer clothes.

He also has a best friend Moe who lives in Del Ray that he loves hanging with.

I want to welcome Sushi's owners, Michael and Alan, to our club. They want to help our rescue dogs, too.

King Symba

Click here: YouTube - Dog Plays Simon Says I can just see Symba playing this!
+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
Symba is owned by Shanyn, one of our foster moms. You can see him here with Chelsea, one of our foster Pekes, and Lopey, their other dog. Aren't they cute!!
Symba thinks he's the king. He thinks he's tough. He thinks he can take on Chuck Norris!
He was able to talk his dad into doing a blog on just that topic! It's so funny, so here's the link. Check it out and see how tough King Symba is!

Chewman, Toast's Friend

Chewman was one of Toast's friends. I know he'll miss her.

Chewie Cookie aka Chewman was one of my foster dogs. He was adopted in March, 2005 (has it been that long!!??). He lives in Richmond now. And he is so loved!!! Can I live there, too!?

He's with one of his friends. He gets along with everyone and every dog! His friend's name is Pickle! Don't you love that name!!?

Chewman's owner said he is the happiest Peke she's ever know-- and she's known a few since theirs is a Peke-loving family!! Chewman also thinks it's fun to chase squirrels. If it's like my house, all I have to do is say, "SQUIRREL" and they all run to the yard to look!

Chewman has started singing with his mom every night-- She sings this song to them when they head off to bed--he runs to the bedroom, throws his head back, and "sings"-- She said Chewman sounds much better than she does! She tried to get it on video, but he looks at her like I am crazy, and stops!

Farewell to Toast

We want to say good-bye to sweet Toast. Her family made a video as a tribute to her and I want to share it with all of you. Their tribute to Toaster:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TQW-6HefPck
She was rescued from a puppy mill and lived her life with Cate, one of my adopter's daughters.
Toast had a good life with her family. She had a lot of Pekingese friends.
She protected them, she loved them, she was beautiful.
She was a faithful companion to her mom. She lived in a family that loves Pekingese.
Her little tongue hung out of her mouth, but that just made her cuter.

Toast gave her mom a big kiss before she died. This will forever be a loving memory -- they are convinced she was saying "Thank You."
Farewell Toast-- you are missed. And you will never be forgotten.

CHANCE TAKES A ROAD TRIP

ANSWER TO THE BEAGLE-PEKINGESE MIX-- IT'S A PEAGLE!!
++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
Here's Chance again-- he's getting a lot of coverage lately. Really, he's just the "lead in dog" for other dogs we visited. And this blog is no exception.
We were taking Corkey up to N.Va. and stopped in Richmond. Chance was along to go to visit in Richmond. After I got there, with my husband, several of us went to lunch. At the last minute, Gloria (our club president) and I decided to make a fun day of it, and we met at a fellow member's house. And we all went to get Mexican food!

Corkey was left in prison (the kitchen) while we left.
It wasn't long-- eating Mexican food is great, but it is almost like a fast food restaurant!

Then, we all went outside. Here is one of Sonia's Pekes-- Sandy. Sandy is an old boy. He used to be able to climb up the stairs to the deck.
Can someone help the boy??
Maybe I can do it myself-- let me try.
Well, maybe not.
Back inside and Sandy settles down for a nap.
I laid down on the floor in front of him to get some cute pictures. He's the sweetest boy!
Look at this face!
And then there is Precious-- her name fits!
Can you see her posing for the camera?
I'll look this way-- can you get my face?
How is this? Better? I know I'm beautiful!
And here is Corky-- he was neutered so had to wear the horrible e-collar. The dogs hate these things--
But, it did not stop him from trying to play!! Chance is listening to a secret, I think.
And off they go, Corkey and Chance. Having a Peke friend is so much fun.

Chance -- Back Again

HAPPY FATHER'S DAY TO ALL THE DADS OUT THERE!!! DAD'S TO CHILDREN AND DOGS!

On the trip I took with Chance, we visited Richmond. It's funny how dogs can pay you NO attention. I noticed that all the dogs had their back to me!!

DiDi was on my lap-- with her back to me.

Jill Lee was in front of me-- you got it, with her back to me.

Allie was to the side, under a chair-- yep, with her back to me.

And sweet Chance! There was my sweet loyal boy-- but with his back to me!

Even George had nothing to say to me! Was there something really interesting going on in the back of the yard? I know Jeanne has a beautiful yard (on the previous blogs), but really. My feelings were hurt, my pride injured-- well, not really.

And then they began to turn around. Happy Day!!!

Jill Lee came up to be cute.

And cute she can be!

She is so sweet to Chance. Chance was hurt visiting someone briefly-- his eye had a small injury and his back was a little out. And Jill Lee never left his side-- the entire day while he rested! Don't worry, Chance will be fine.

Look at that face-- looks like a stuff animal with BIG EYES. Pekes all have big eyes, but Chance's eyes are captivating.

Chance had eye surgery while he was with me to remove the folds. He has had so many eye issues that the vet wanted to make sure that the folds did not irritated his eyes. Well, leave it to Chance to be allergic to the dissolvable stitches.
The vet took the stitches out and it was amazing how fast Chance's face stopped looking so red!!

Now Chance is ready for his new home. What a sweet addition he will be!

STARLIGHT AND MAX

At my house, there are multiple Pekingese. I've had "THE FIVE" for a long time now. (My Scooterbug and Cranberry, Starlight, Max and Maggie) Starlight has been here over 16 months-- she just refused to be adopted. She became her "baby cujo" self and no one adopted her. (She would have adjusted in a short time and become the most faithful dog ever, but no one could get past the "ugly self" that she portraited.) Then Max and Maggie came. Here's Max and Starlight taking a nap together.
It's nice and peaceful most of the time.
But now, Starlight and Max have a toy conflict going on. Whenever Max gets near Starlight, she leaps and barks and just makes a racket! She doesn't want his toy-- she just wants to yell! Look at this face-- does she LOOK like she would do that? I can tell she's claiming her innocence!
And here's sweet Max. With his ball in his mouth-- very normal. He has realized that when he gets close to Starlight, she raises a ruckus. Can you just see his tail wagging-- he KNOWS she is under that desk!
He intentionally goes near her now to get her to bark. She's hiding under the desk and he's getting closer.
He just eggs her on.

So what does she do??? She goes to her Daddy. He'll tell her how wonderful she is.
She has him wrapped right around her little paws.
So there-- you can just see her saying that, can't you!!
Starlight-- you're a mess!

What is a Beagle-Pekingese??

ANSWER: IT'S A PEAGLE!
++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
We know what a Beagle looks like-- if you don't, here is a picture.

We all know what a Pekingese looks like! Or a group of Pekingese!

I found this on "Freekibble" and thought it was pretty cute. Of course, I got the answer wrong! Tell me what YOU think the right answer is!

What is the official name of a Beagle-Pekingese crossbreed?

A. A Beaglese

B. A Pekineagle

C. A Peagle

D. A dang cute dog!

This type of dog is known as a hybrid or "designer dog". We used to just call them Mixes!!! I could not find any pictures that weren't copyrighted, so you'll just have to imagine what it looks like!

Clarence and Roxy

Remember Clarence. He came into rescue in November, and his foster mom adopted him! He was a perfect fit, a sweet boy who no one wanted because his eyes were red. That was cleared up with drops, and he's beautiful!! We were so lucky to get him!
He loved being here but he loved his foster mom's house more!!
He has a best friend, named Roxy, who comes to play. They are great buddies.
I hope all our foster dogs get a home as great as his! Thanks, Kim!!

Gracie's Jobs Part 2

JUST TO LET YOU KNOW-- I WILL BE DELETING OLDER BLOG ENTRIES BECAUSE OF LIMITED FREE SPACE. I WILL TRY TO SAVE THEM MYSELF, BUT MANY WILL NOT BE AVAILABLE TO SEE ANYMORE. IF YOU HAVE SOME OF YOUR DOGS THAT YOU WANT TO COPY, PLEASE DO THIS IS THE NEXT FEW DAYS.
LINDA
++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
I told you the other day about Gracie's jobs-- like finishing her meals, protecting the street and helping supervise the workers next door.
She was able to go over for closer supervision. She is checking out the equipment here to make sure it's in good working order.
And she watching the workers go into the house-- I'm sure they're very clear of her critiques.
Maybe standing in the shade to supervise is a good idea. You know Pekes can get so hot in the sun.
And after all that work, it's time for a nap. She has a kennel she can hide out in but she rarely (if ever!) uses it. She also has enough toys for an army of Pekes (like most of our dogs!). I wonder if she stacks them like that on her own. I don't think so!! :-)

Chance Goes to Richmond

CHANCE GOES TO RICHMOND

If you are interested in adopting this sweet boy, please email Linda at haveninhim@aol.com
Remember that Chance and I left the farm? Here we go!
We went to Richmond so he could visit with Jeanne and her husband (our foster parents there) and their dogs.
And he would have lots of friends to be with! Here's Jill Lee, a sweet one for sure! She loves to give kisses.
And friends to walk the paths with. Chance is being followed by Hanna.
And rest with. Here's George, the patriarch.
And sweet Hanna is just watching Chance. She's very shy, so I was unable to pet her, but I could talk to her and tell her how wonderful she was.
Sweet DiDi resting is someone he can be friends with.
And Jeanne, his foster mom this week, will give him lots of attention.
Here's a close-up of DiDi. Amazing the pictures you can get by holding the camera in front of you!
Here he is with new friends, Jill Lee and Hanna. Let's see where this little stream of water is going.
I had mentioned in the previous blog (June 2) before how much I loved gazing balls. Well, DiDi, and her mom, Jeanne, gave me one!!!! I am so excited! Here is it-- I haven't found the perfect place for it yet, so I have put in on my coffee table where it is safe from dogs. A place outside where it will catch the sunbeams is what I'm looking for. But, I had to show you how beautiful it is.
This is Jeanne's gazing ball in her garden.
And the Koi pond-- notice the netting over it to keep the dogs safe. And to keep the birds out!
And there's goes Chance- he loved all the paths to walk on.
I took a picture of myself at one of the mirrors in the garden. It looks like a door to the next yard-- but it was just me!
And more mirrors on a garden "shed." The nicest garden shed I've ever seen!
And there he goes again! I think that's a toy beside him.
Is that a real bird in the cage? No, but it's sure cute!
CHance will check this spot out now.
And here's another path. He is having a blast exploring! All new sights and smells. And sounds-- but he can't hear them, only barking of the other dogs and whistles. It doesn't bother him a bit.
I loved this stone in their garden. Jeanne, what does this represent? (It's the day they got married!! A friend on Jeanne's wrote using a magic marker pen on the rock for them when they got married in the back yard. It kept fading so she took the stone and had it engraved so it would not fade. Don't you love this!)
More flowers to smell, more paths to explore.
And here's the Koi pond again-- Jeanne was throwing in cheerios to bring them closer to the surface. They love the cheerios!
Here's another water feature-- just gently tumbling out onto the stones below. Jeanne's husband made the little water feature using her Cake Pan holder top and a bucket for the bottom. She just loves that little fountain.
And now it's time for Chance to rest, and let the fan blow in his hair. Looks like a jet engine is blowing him-- and he's loving every second of it!
Yes, I think Chance will be very happy here!
Look at that happy face!

CHANCE GOES TO THE FARM

Do you remember several months ago when I wrote that using plastic bowls for water and food could be a problem for your dog? It can cause allergic reactions, sores around the mouth, infection. A friend read that and immediately switched to metal water dishes and glass bowls for all her pets. One of her dogs, Dixie, had lost a lot of her hair-- But, after switching the bowls, Dixie's hair has completely returned. It took a year, but she looks beautiful now. Just those little things really trigger reactions. Just wanted to remind all of you to use glass or metal bowls and to wash their food bowls daily, and their water bowls every few days. WE wouldn't eat off a dirty plate!
++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
CHANCE GOES TO THE FARM

If you are interested in adopting this sweet boy, please email Linda at haveninhim@aol.com

Chance went on a trip with his foster mom to her daughter's farm. They were on their way to take him to visit someone (while foster mom was out of town) and they stopped at the farm overnight.

We got up early the next morning and looked outside. FOG!! HORSES!! We grabbed the leash and the camera and out we went.
Chance really wanted a closer look.
Yes, there's one of the horses!! There are four horses at the farm, and Chance wanted to see them up close and personal!
Maybe there are more in that field.
Yes, there's one coming out of the fog. We can't tell which one.
It's Ming, or Annie, or Chivalry....... It's NOT Jasmine-- she's just a pony! And she's white and brown and small.
Now two horses came out of the fog.
Chance loves to watch them. But, he's okay with them being OVER THERE.
Back inside-- let's see who else is here.
That Kallie, the chocolate lab. All the dogs here are so friendly, and so is Chance.
And here's Sweetie-Pi, also known as Pi Pi. SWEETEST dog!! Loves the grandkids.
This is Lottie, my Scooterbug's mom. She's very regal!
This is Wicket-- he's Scooterbug's Dad-- he's ten years old now!! Hard to believe! A wonderful Peke!!
And back outside with one of the granddaughters "Lil Bit." Chance loves the chickens.
He does want to be up close and personal with them. He was absolutely fascinated with them.
They were not fascinated with him though.
And then it was time to leave. "Bitty Bit" says good-bye.
"Lil Bit" says good-bye.
Good-bye horses.
Good-bye farm house. We'll come again!!!
Good-bye Farm!
See where Chance goes next-- tomorrow!!

More Rusty

Remember Rusty from the other day? Here are more pictures of him. He is gaining some weight and is on heart murmur medication. He is afraid of the leash, but his new owner is so patient with him.
Resting comfortable-- feeling safe.
Look how beautiful he is! He's being taken care of so well.
His owner said he's probably the laziest dog in the world and sleeps at least 20 hours a day. He loves sleeping on his son's bed and has a habit of slowly sneaking up on him in the middle of the night and wrapping himself around his face !!!!
Rusty is one lucky boy to have been saved and adopted into this family!!

Shark's Peke Family

Remember Shark-- the happy boy who lives with his family and kids now?
His family sent me pictures from the family album. They have had Pekes a long time.
These are Shark's "grandparents" pekes, Won Toi and Wei Tei, checking out what's going on outside. That window was installed especially so the dogs could see out! :-)
This is Richie, one of his parents' Peke and you can see all the blankets on the couch. Just like at my house!
Here's Katie and Richie when they were young pups (doesn't Richie look a lot like Shark?)
These two are of his grandparents' peke, Chang Toi. Chang is checking out Jacob when he was a baby (he's 3 now!). And Shark loves Jacob!
No matter how old the Peke pictures are, they are wonderful to look at!

Gracie's Job

If you want to see more Pekes, check out this site: http://www.fuzzyjoy.com/ ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
Gracie's mom saw that other Pekes have jobs. One of Gracie's jobs is to clean her plate really well! :-)
Another job is supervising other dogs who live near her. She helps them to learn manners, especially when walking. This is Bodie. But, she walks with Wilson a lot-- and he has learned a lot about proper walking technique from Gracie. Here, Bodie is trying to emulate Gracie. She's the perfect Peke!
Well, Gracie has a new job-- in addition to guarding the street from her front door station!

Gracie's next door neighbor was having a bathroom replaced and Gracie got to supervise from her vantage point at the door. The workers talk to her, and get pointers on how to perfect their craft of bathroom renovation. Gracie knew this was VERY important to the success of this bathroom repair.

It's very important to have a few toys when you're doing your jobs. Don't you love how intelligent our Pekes are and how good they are at supervising?!

Cooper and Dexter

Dexter and Cooper were adopted from us within the past year. They live with Jelly Belly. Jelly Belly is part bassett and SO cute.

Dexter and Jelly Belly enjoy having Cooper too, they play constantly. Cooper has taught Dexter a few tricks of his own, like laying on the back of the couch or using the couch as a look out post (it backs up to a window). Cooper has also taught Dexter how to jump from couch to couch without having to get down on the floor. Cooper likes his big brother role. Dexter's favorite past time is sneaking up and stealing Cooper's favorite toy of the day, just to annoy him. Jelly Belly just watches like a mom and gets her beauty sleep.
Jelly Belly first came to meet Starlight, who chased her all over the yard! Starlight can be so bad! (No, she was never adopted and still lives here-- she is her "ugly self" when people come to visit.) Can you see Cooper, the black one, sitting next to Jelly Belly? It's hard to see Cooper!
Dexter and Cooper are here in a cosy place together. "Are you taking my picture?" says Cooper.
Cooper is doing great and loves to take long walks around the neighborhood. His mom calls him her little bodyguard, he is so alert and so serious when he sees something. Cooper likes to take his toy of the day and sun bathe on the patio, his favorite past time if he isn't hoarding the toys on the couch inside. He has so much personality, at about 10pm he is ready for bed and he sits at the bottom of the stairs waiting to go to bed.
Look at Cooper-- he's ready to party! Love the hat. :-) We all love to dress them up at times. Cooper looks like a "rough and tumble" Peke for sure!

They now all live in California and enjoy the warm weather and sunny days!

Diane's Dogs

Look at this sweet face! Bugsy aka Buddy looks like the sweetest boy! He had his e-collar on for a few days and then got it off because he had no interest in licking his stitches. He did have an interest in losing his temper a bit!
I took him to his foster mom, Diane's house. He was a total pill for the first few minutes there. Diane can attest to that! HER dogs, however, were perfect. Maybe they can teach Buddy some manners. (At last report, Buddy was doing a LOT better! I guess the girls ARE teaching him better behavior.)
This is Panda. She is a beautiful Japanese Chin and so sweet. I just fell in love with her. Diane rescued her from a puppy mill (via a rescue group). She has just blossomed under Diane's care.
Look what a lady she is. She's so polite and wouldn't hurt a fly-- or a bad-tempered Peke!
Are you listening, Buddy??
She's watching Buddy-- "Buddy, listen to me, you need to behave."
Buddy, at that moment, clearly did not want to listen!
Prissy thought she'd give it a try. Prissy was rescued from a puppy mill through a rescue gorup in West Virginia. She is so sweet-- some rescued dogs are so grateful and love being in a good home. Prissy had been bred many times, but now she has a wonderful, loving home.
"Mom, I'm trying to talk to the new dog-- Buddy! He will catch on in a few days, I just know it!"
She's giving him an earful. But, he's just soaking up some attention and not listening to Prissy. He'll catch on though. With Panda and Prissy to teach him, and with Diane to love him, he'll be just fine! THANKS DIANE!! (She says I don't have to thank her, but I do-- she's doing a great job!)

Two Coneheads

Sometimes, when a Peke has surgery, they have to wear an e-collar to keep them from licking their stitches. They usually HATE the e-collars and really want to get at those stitches that are driving them crazy. Well, I had two that had surgery and so I had two "coneheads" in the house at one time. They're both in other foster homes now. I can only take dogs overnight now because I have a full house with the rest.
Cocoa (on the left) was really annoyed with his e-collar. His stitches were driving him crazy! He yelled and cried. We gave him pain meds and benydryl, but all he wanted was the e-collar OFF. Don't worry, by the time you read this, his e-collar is off and he is fine!
Bugsy/Buddy didn't give a care about his stiches. I finally just took his collar off. He never did bother his stitches. Amazing how some are unaware they've had surgery. Look at this face! Looks like a little angel doesn't he. HA!
Buddy can be a pistol, but his foster mom Diane, is determined to curb his little temper. He does great with his foster sisters and is learning that one of them definitely rules! More tomorrow on Buddy!!

Darby Working

Here's Darby when we first got her into rescue. She had so many health problems, but they were all taken care of and she went to her foster home in Richmond. Well, they fell in love with her and adopted her!
Her friend, Maddie comes to visit often. Maddie was one of Darby's mom's foster dogs. She lives near by.

Occasionally, we accidentally get a dog who is not a full Peke. Maddie's mom had a DNA test run on her so we finally found out what she was - 50% Shitzu 25% Peke ande 25% Pomeranian. And she's 100% cute!! It's so much fun to do these DNA tests-- they aren't expensive (I think about $80) so if your dog is a mix, and you want to know what they are, try this out. And share the results with me. :-)

Darby saw that many Pekes have jobs. Shadow has a job visiting elderly people and giving them joy. My Scooterbug has a job working with the new fosters who come here-- letting them know they are safe here. So, Darby had to show us that SHE has a job! She is obviously busy working-- can you see the determination in her face. Can you see how hard she is working on a document she's copying? Can you see how exhausting the job is!

All in a Peke's Day's Work!!

Rusty, Saved in Time

This is Rusty. Rusty only weighs seven pounds. And he should weigh more.
Rusty was in a Connecticut shelter. Like most shelters, it was overflowing with dogs. And the older ones are the first to be put down if there is a lack of space. Rusty was ten years old, so his chances weren't good.
Rusty was left in the garage by his owner, who moved out of the house. Thank goodness, the neighbors realized he was there, eating pieces of wood because he was so hungry. (If someone moves and you know they had a dog, try to make sure the dog has not been left there. We've had several dogs come into rescue after they were abandoned.) Rusty was obviously sick and scared to death and was not likely to be adopted since there were plenty of puppies at the front of the shelter. He was in the back, in a little cage, looking very sad and lonely. His new owner took one look and knew he was his!
Rusty went to the vet, and he has a heart murmur and needs to put on weight. He has some other health issues also, but his new owner is up to the challenge!! He will make sure Rusty has all the love and care and food he needs. After being with his new owner a week, Rusty saw another dog walk by outside and he barked!! What a great sign for a little dog who was just hanging on.
His new owner will send me updates on Rusty-- but Rusty is safe and loved. And that is the best thing for him right now.

Shark and Family

Shark was adopted earlier this year. His new family sends me pictures, which I just love! (I really enjoy staying in touch with adopters.) Shark is one of those special Pekes who is good with children. He loves his boys!
He is perfectly content to just hang around with them. I think he also likes to have his picture taken.
He is just a laid back Peke, and his family adores him. We wanted just the right Peke for them, and he was a perfect fit.
Shark is a great boy. Wish they were all this nice! :-)

Ollie and Buffy

Here's Ollie and Buffy!
They are new best friends. Buffy was adopted after our last PVPC picnic in April.
Her name was Lotus Blossom/Buffy. She only had the name Lotus Blossom for a short time (she was a shelter dog), and her new owners thought Buffy suited her. And it does. She looks like she's crying-- but don't worry, she's not.
"Oh, did you think I was crying? That was just my face to make you feel sorry for me and give me anything I want."
"Let me try another sad face." She's so feminine with her pink bows and bandana. I think she has her new daddy wrapped around her paw!
Here's Ollie-- and he's handsome!! Look at his macho bandana. And look at the tags-- I LOVE to see dog with tags on! If the dogs we foster had tags on when they got lost, we may have been able to find their owners. Unfortunately, some owners didn't want them anymore. But, once we get them, they get TAGS and lots of other things! (Like shots, neutering, blood tests.... )
Ollie and Buffy love to play. This is Ollie's favorite toy! And Buffy has it! He is being quite a gentleman and sharing with her. But, he longs to get his toy back.
He's still watching!

Oh, looks like she is going to share!! Look at Ollie's grin. He's happy now.
Oh, joy is having your blue toy back!

But, it's more fun to play! Where's the blue toy?? No where to be seen.

Looks like a very vocal play time. :-)

Oh, no! She got the toy again. Ollie will patiently wait again.

"Mom, can you do something about this???"

Back to play!

It's so nice to have a best friend.

A friend who flies!

And then it's cuddle time! I think they're both exhausted, so their owner's adopted daughter's lap is a good place to be!!

Ollie and Buffy Together

Buffy needed a home.
And Ollie needed a friend.
So, Buffy went to live in Ollie's house.
And they became friends. And they played together.
And rested together.
And Tasha, from next door, comes over to play. She is howling with joy that Buffy has joined their fun time.
The three of them are such great friends now, and they get together a lot to run and play.
And now Ollie has someone to watch out the window with him instead of looking out by himself.
And when they're alone, they can just wait together, patiently, for their parents to come home. Ollie is content, he now has a friend to wait with him. TO BE CONTINUED TOMORROW!

Ollie-- I'm Getting a Friend!

Before our PVPC picnic this year, Ollie was the only dog in his home. He would be afraid when his parents left him to run errands. He just got very upset! I suggested that maybe he needed a friend.
So, they told Ollie they would look for a friend for him. And he looked, too!
And he looked this way.
And he looked that way. He looked when he was outside.
And he looked when he was inside.
He looked and he waited.
And then his parents told him they were going to the picnic and they were going to find him a friend! Nothing's better than having a friend. Look tomorrow to see who it is.

DIDI'S BACK YARD

DiDi is one of our adopted Pekes. Her mom, Jeanne, is one of my friends now. I meet SO many nice people in rescue (another good reason to be a foster mom or part of our group--we are NICE people :-).) DiDi's parents have a gorgeous back yard-- so pretty that hundreds of people take tours of it in the spring.
Look at this beautiful pond. Makes me want to sit on the stone wall and dangle my feet in it.
They have beautiful flowers and bird baths.
They have paths for the dogs-- and people-- to walk on.
Jill is trying her best to catch a chipmunk!
And DiDi plays with her best friends!
This is a mirror! I looks like a door-way to another yard. I love this idea! But, I'd have my daughter's dog, Leo, running right into it!
This is the back side of the Pond House... My granddaughters would LOVE this!
Here's George-- the patriarch of the dog crew there. He is observing his domain and his girls playing.
Here's another pond. Don't worry, the dogs are supervised very carefully out here. There's no danger!
I love this. It's a gazing ball. I really want a gazing ball for my back yard-- but, wait. What is that really??? It's Jeanne's mom's bowling ball!!! Well, if you don't bowl anymore, look at all you can do with it!
And DiDi is content in her yard-- she loves the visitors and the beautiful flowers and paths. But, most of all, it's just home! And she loves it.

LET'S GO TO THE VET

I took Cocoa to the vet. When you blog, and you go somewhere, you see opportunities to blog. And if there are dogs around, you REALLY see an opportunity for a blog post!
I was waiting for Cocoa to come out, and was watching the dogs. I thought, "I wonder if I could take some pictures." So, I asked. I was amazed-- people LOVED having me take pictures of their dogs. One told her dog he was going to be famous.
This is Trigger, the baby golden, and Blitz, the baby Husky.
They wanted to meet all the dogs there. And Blitz was very vocal about it. Love that Husky howl!
Look how beautiful he is.
Here's a Boston there-- he was NOT thrilled to be there.
This little beauty was fine with being at the vet. Look at her little tongue poking out.
She'll just check things out.
This one had surgery-- and was not a happy girl. Poor thing.
This one was just fine with having her picture taken. She even posed for me.
Look at this face. :-)
And here's Trigger again!
And then we went home-- nothing like an exciting day at the vet. I'm there often! They should just hire me-- but then I wouldn't have time for rescue. So, I'll keep doing rescue. I love it.
