THE DAY AFTER THANKSGIVING

What did you do yesterday?  Did you start decorating?  We had set up the tree, and the lights were on it. The rest of the decorations for the tree began. Dickens loves to help.
The Pekingese sleigh went in its spot.  It was a gift from my friends and I love it. ❤️
The Christmas table cloths and blankets came out.
The mantle was stripped of everything that was there. The Autumn ambience was packed away.
The holidays things came out.
Christmas pillows were spread out.  Cinnamon and …
Dickens both showed them off.
I keep a “fence” around it. I don’t need any eye injuries.
I began putting on the ornaments. I have a lot I’ve made on line w some of the dogs pictures on them.
The dogs are just napping through it all. No help at all. 😂. Are you decorating yet? 🎄🎄

A THANKSGIVING RESCUE

This albino Peke ended up in a shelter because her owner could no longer live on her own.  She was in the same shelter as the Maryland 5.  (The one Toasty was part of.).
We wrote back and forth.  Right now, rescues are having trouble finding foster homes. We are not the only one.  So we can take one if we have a foster to adopt foster home.  I sent the request to the board and one said she would take her.
The rescue person at the shelter took her home for Thanksgiving Day.  Since the shelter would be an 8 hour round trip, we had to figure it out.  (So much goes on before we even get the dog.). The rescue person messaged and said her son was going home Thanksgiving evening. And he lives an hour away from the foster home. Wow!
Last night,  at 7:00 in the evening, we took her into rescue.  Another holiday rescue.  Welcome to your forever!

HAPPY THANKSGIVING

Cinnamon knows what she is doing today on Thanksgiving.  She's not getting any leftover from dinner.   She loves carrots, but that about the limit on people items.  I know cooking scents got her attention!  She will get her treats.  :-)  She won't have to lift a paw all day.
I hope all of you have a beautiful day.  If you can find time to think of all you are thankful for, I'm sure the list would be long.
Cinnamon and Dickens are just going to hang out on the couch.  His back is a perfect pillow.  💜
HAPPY THANKSGIVING!

PEKES WE REMEMBER #4

I know there must be some dogs that I haven't put in the "remembrance blogs" so please add them to the comments.   There are so many who have blessed our lives.   I remember them all.
Tinsley. I won’t forget his story. He lived outside all year round in the mountains of Virginia.  A neighbor finally said she’d report owner if he didn’t give him to her.  She turned him over to us.  He was a forever foster.
Romey, one of the Bristol 18. He passed away from cancer. He was his mom’s heart and soul.

Becky and Chris have adopted quite a few from us.   Here are come of them.  Sugar (2009-2023) came in with four other Pekes in 2010 I think.  Peanut (2015-2021).
Petey joined their family and fit right in!

Daniel 2021 was with rescue a short time.  I picked him up from a shelter and noticed his eyes were "off" like they were partly crossed.  We have dealt with all kinds of eye issues, so I wasn't worried.   He went to his foster home and did fine.  Then one day, he began to seize over and over and over.  He began medications.  But, one night they called me.  He was non stop seizing.  I'm 2 hours away but my vet at that time was open 24-7.  He stayed the night and the vet did everything he could.  The seizure activity would not stop.   His foster dad-- his real dad-- drove back, so he could hold him to say good-bye.  I remember him saying, "You were adopted."  He truly loved this boy.  I meet incredible people in rescue--
Ralo was in need 3 years ago.  He was 13 at the time, and older in many ways.  He was adopted by his family and he lived three years with them.  The care they gave him was amazing--  He was so lucky to have them.  He passed away last week.
Peanut came from a shelter and was adopted by this family also.   Peanut was in rough shape, but that all changed.   He loved his family and they loved him.  He passed away in his sleep in 2021.
Petey was Peanut's brother.
Sugar was another in the family-- they are a great Peke loving family.  Sugar came into rescue in 2010 with 3 others.  She decided she ruled her new home, and the rest listened to her.
Sugar Annie was a beautiful little one.   She was in a Virginia shelter and we took her into rescue.  She was with a sweet couple who could see how much love she had to give.
Matilda was blind when we rescued her.  She had cataract surgery and it worked!  She was a beautiful little girl.

Chip's Moe -- Elwood's brother.  I met him many years ago when I took Elwood to meet him.  They were fast friends immediately!  It was awesome to watch.
Jay Jay's mom fostered Jay Jay and then adopted him.  He was so temperamental that she knew she had to keep him.  She said, “Oh Jay Jay. He was such a challenged boy. Loved him so much. Was able to work through his crippling fear aggression. Later on, he was in a k9cart because of back problems. Pretty Penny helped teach him how to be part of the pack.”
Moe was a senior when he joined Jay Jay's family. “Moe. What a sweet old gentleman. Adopted him when he was 14. Brought him home and it was love at first site for Penny. Lived to be 16.5. His body just shutdown.”
Pudgie and Schmoo-- these two were so special when they came in.   Pudgie had a bad eye that was removed.  Schmoo was missing a vertebra and had no bowel control.   His foster parents/adopted parents did an amazing job taking care of him.   He wore diapers all the time except when he was outside.   They are both gone now-- but they had a wonderful home.

I will continue to honor the pictures you've shared-- more blogs coming.  Each of your Pekes is special.

KRINGLE—BEFORE AND AFTER

Kringle's life has totally turned around.
He is now healthier; his skin is much better.  He's gained weight-- he may be a little "fluffy" now.  But when we got him....
He wasn't as thin as Dickens was, but he was definitely underweight with terrible skin. Like many of the others, he had significant eye damage and has limited vision.
He is much better now.  His hair began growing out.
The other day, Kringle gave his mom a scare.  He was in the back area, a fenced bricked patio area, that has plenty of room to walk around.   Well, somehow, he found a way out.   His mom found him quickly, and she is still trying to figure out how he got out.  Until all the boards are checked, Kringle is on a line with his mom out there.   With his limited sight, he must have used his nose to find a spot where he could sneak out.
His tongue hangs out a lot, but it doesn't get in his way.
Like Dickens, his hair is now stunning.  To see how different these Christmas dogs are now is like watching a miracle.
Life is good for Sir Kringle.  His Christmas is going to be joyful!

PADDINGTON AND CINNAMON'S LOVE STORY

                                                    PADDINGTON AND CINNAMON

Paddington and Cinnamon adore each other.   It began when she came to us.

She came into rescue on December 10, 2023.  This is her after she was cleaned up.  She was underweight, her hair was short.  She was undernourished.  She was afraid of everything.
Somehow, Paddington knew she needed help.  And it began.
She began to follow him around.  And he watched over her.
She curled up by him almost by instinct.
"Yes, I'll watch over her."
She was so small next to him.   She has gained a pound and a half since then.
He showed her that the yard wasn't scary.
She has gotten so much better from whatever she went through.  But she is still afraid of most people.
 Paddington is always there.
She will crawl into his bed to snuggle.
She is rarely alonE.   But sometimes she will get into the kitchen bed if I'm in the kitchen.
Piper (at the bottom of the picture) is often on the couch with her and Paddington.
There colors are similar, she is a softer brown red while he is red.
When I have coffee in the morning, she loves to rest her head on his back.
And he lets her.  We've been amazed how good he is with her.
Paddington has a reputation as "Bad Pad" but never with her.
The toy dog is almost as big as she is.  (She's about 12 pounds now.)
Can you see her?  She is between Piper and Paddington.
It looks like a stand off-- but it's not.  She's just adoring him.
Dickens has joined the coffee couch group.  Paddington is very good with him, too.  But it's not at all the same as he is with Cinnamon.
I do often find them all in a group.
There is still a little room for me.
It might be just three-- Piper is protecting our back yard from the ottoman in the other room.
Sometimes, Paddington rests his head on her.  And it's so sweet.

Cinnamon has now helped others feel better- like Missy Mistletoe when she came with the Christmas pups.
Cinnamon loves Piper, too.
But, it's nothing like her love for Paddington.
There they are-- best, best friends.  💙💜💕
