Winter Storm Fern is coming. Are you in the affected area? Granger had snow last year, but it wasn't bad. Snow is pretty normal in the winter, but not like this one. We call huge snow storms Snowmageddon. It's not a real weather term, but it fits.People with pets should make sure they're inside. Abner lives in New York, so he's had big snow storms before. We might have to ask him for some advice. ❄❅❆
Must Love Pekes is a blog for those who love Pekingese -- their looks, their antics, their personalities. It is written by me, Linda, and I have been rescuing Pekingese for over 20 years. Lots of them have come through our home. We have loved them all.

LITTLE SIMON
Simon came into rescue in 2014. A rescue friend helped us to get him. We were concerned about him.
Simon has sent me messages in the past. You know Pekes are so smart. He said, "My mommy and daddy bought me a sofa and they are getting a new storm door put up so I can look out all day at everything."
"I am very spoiled but that is ok. I go out almost every day for a ride in my new car seat. Everywhere we go people come to say hi to me. They say that I am so very cute and that my coat is so soft. Of course, I know all of this. Here is a picture of me on my sofa and I wanted to send it to you. I love my mommy and daddy very much. Love Simon❤️"
His mom made some comments of her own. She said that Simon is the most precious dog she has ever had. "He is smart, obedient and loving. He loves head kisses. Thank you for letting us adopt this precious little man."

YOGI--FOREVER HOME
Yogi came into rescue in August 2024. We knew he wasn't a Peke, but we said yes when we were asked to help him.
He was a stray and matted. He was a beautiful boy of about 5. He was groomed and he had medical care. We received applications for him. I don't think we're that tough, but we do have basics that we won't compromise on. And no one met those requirements. That was fine. He was safe and we could wait. Most rescues have requirements and they don't compromise on those either.
But his foster mom said, "You're mine now." And Yogi messaged me to say, "Today, January 21, I am 6 years old. I have been in my foster home over a year now and I have decided to stay."
And he is so happy about that! Look at his smile! He can look forward to a lifetime of long walks, friends to play with, and the love of his forever mom.
Now that he has made that decision, he can rest peacefully. No more applications-- he's staying!

SCOUT'S NEW BABY
Scout Annabelle came to us from a home that had a new baby, and she was absolutely in love with it. I had a family that was expecting a grandbaby and I knew Iggy/now Scout Annabelle would be wonderful. And she has been! Scout may know how to relax, but her mom said, "Scout is very keen on dogs barking on the TV. She's the smartest dog we've had I believe. Our other dogs never noticed. I'm starting to doubt their intelligence. 😂" That's so funny. Scout was immediately protective of the new baby, and she took her guardian role very seriously. She's doing such a great job when the baby is close. Good girl Scout!!

SILLY MISSY (MISTLETOE)
I saw this picture of Missy and started laughing. I wondered what she had on her head.
When I zoomed in on the picture, I saw it was a long toy. Look at all the toys. And there are more—because every Peke parent can’t resist buying more. Guard duty. Missy looks over her shoulder and looks for toys. I guess she found more. 😂 She’s almost hidden.
Meanwhile Taz takes a nap in his tent. I love it! Missy is a busy girl. She keeps her mom and dad entertained all the time. Her new mom and dad are the perfect parents for her. 🥰

OLIVER AND JAGGER
One of my friends had adopted two sweet dogs from us. Winks, the white one, came to us as a puppy. He had so many allergies and my friends were the best w him, doing everything possible to help him.
After they went to the Rainbow Bridge, two brothers joined their family.. Oliver and Jagger great grandsons of Malachy, a Champion at Westminster. They are beautiful. The head tilt gets me every time. ❤️We all wish you a happy Sunday! It’s supposed to be cold and snowy here. ❄️

CHANGE IS COMING
We have been contemplating moving. Looking at houses, in attics.....
looking down stairwells. I thought, "this will take forever to find a house that fits the size we want (downsizing), one floor (we'll accept a room over the garage), and a small office instead of a living room is fine. And guess what! Our daughter sent us a new listing. We went to see it the next day. And....DRUM ROLL... we are closing in less than 2 weeks. It's less than a mile from one of our daughters and much closer to our other daughter. We are so excited! We will spend time in both houses for awhile. Eventually, we will sell our current house. We've been here 28 years with so many memories. But I hope another family can use all the rooms and love our wonderful porch. Then this house will be a blessing to another family. Are you excited Dickens? I know it will be hard to learn a new lay out but you can do it.
For now, he'll just take a nap and not worry about it. 😴 I might just join him.

WELCOME DAISY
WELCOME DAISY!
We received a request to help a stray Peke in Richmond. She was on stray hold. After that was over, two reps went to evaluate her. She was terrified in the shelter and not doing well. Things were so scary and she reacted to every noise. Our foster got her and she totally changed. She immediately relaxed.
She wanted to be held. She wasn't too sure about being picked up, but she jumped into laps and was fine. Toys-- did you say toys? She definitely likes toys.
She liked getting affection. She laid right down and wanted to have attention. She is only 10 pounds and about 2-3 years old. Very young. She will be spayed today. She likes attention so would benefit from a person being around during the day. She is a little beauty and we will find her a wonderful home. 💜

HAPPY BIRTHDAY EMMI
Emmi came into rescue two years ago this month. She’s such a beautiful little girl. She had been abandoned in an apartment when her owner moved. This caused her trauma. One of our previous adopters wanted her even thought she knew Emmi needed a lot of help. They had Piper who I fostered years ago. He’s an old man now but still so precious.
Very young Gracy needed a home last year. She was outside of Virginia where they lived and they got her to foster. Gracy brought a lot of activity and puppiness to their lives. They loved her and adopted her. I was so happy for them.
Emmi just had a birthday. We don’t know her exact birthday or age so she was given a birthday. She got a new toy! Celebrate 13!!

VELCRO DOGS
Do you have Velcro dogs? Do they velcro to you or to another dog? Mine do both.
Mine usually have another dog touching them. And they’re often like this. (No climbing for Divkens for awhile as his back heals.)Granger and Tuk Tuk love to be together especially if there is a box involved. Ludo and Toby have to be touching. They’re from the Christmas rescue so they would pile up together. They take comfort in that.
Hunter and Jingle love being together. They roll, chase, get into mischief and keep their mom busy and entertained.
