TRAVIS—18 YEARS OLD

Travis, w DeeGee, came into rescue two years ago this month.  I met him at the shelter after his owner brought him there.

He was “over 16” they said.  He couldn’t see well but he kept going to the door to leave.  So we did.  His foster parents gave him a birthday of yesterday.  Everyone needs a birth date.
He went to the vet who told him HAPPY BIRTHDAY.  Travis promptly went back to sleep.
Happy 18th birthday Travis!  We’re so happy you are w PVPC to celebrate!  πŸŽ‚πŸ°πŸ§

JOLLY HAS A BATH

Jolly is a 4-5 year old boy from the Christmas rescue.  Some think he’s a girl and he’s cute enough--but HE is a boy.
He’s a happy boy and he loves to go for walks.  He will entertain you by going back and forth, back and forth if he needs to pee.  And if he has to poop, he goes in circles— round and round and round.
The other day, his foster mom had the audacity to give him a bath.  Not another one!

This is what he wrote to me.  “Mom went crazy today, she poured bubbly water all over me, made me stand in a rain shower she made, then she brought out a hot air blowing contraption. Finally, she made me stand there while I suffered through a tortuous hair brushing. I am ready to call animal control.  Please send help.”  πŸ˜‚

Finally, it was over.  Time to rest.  Hope it’s a few weeks before that water torture happens again.
(Now he looks beautiful.  It was worth it! 😍

DOGGIE DICTIONARY

I saw this and can't remember where I saw it.  But, it's so cute, I wanted to share.

BUMP:
The best way to get your mom and dad's attention when they are drinking a fresh cup of coffee or tea.

GOOSE BUMP:
A maneuver to use as a last resort when the Regular Bump doesn't get the attention you  require.....especially effective when combined with The Sniff. See above.
DEAFNESS:
This is an affliction which affects dogs when their mom or dad want them in, and they want to stay out. Symptoms include staring blankly at the person, then running in the opposite direction, or lying down.
This would absolutely be Mistletoe.  LOL   She won't come in the back door until SHE decides to do it.   But, if I pick up the treat jaw, she comes right in.

THUNDER:
This is a signal that the world is coming to an end. Mom and dad remain amazingly calm during thunderstorms, so it is necessary to warn them of the danger by trembling uncontrollably, panting, rolling your eyes wildly and following their every move.
Piper is terrified of thunder and fireworks.  And smoke alarms ALARM him.  He is not brave.

BATH:
This is a process by which mom and dad drench the floor, walls and themselves. You can help by shaking vigorously and frequently.
I must say, my window over the sink gets wet, because no how hard I try, the dogs all shake before I can get a towel on them.
BATH:
This is a process by which mom and dad drench the floor, walls and themselves. You can help by shaking vigorously and frequently.
LOVE:
Is a feeling of intense affection, given freely and without restriction. The best way you can show your love is to wag your tail.  If you're lucky, a human will love you in return !
GARBAGE CAN:
A container where mom and dad put food they don't want to test your ingenuity. You must stand on your hind legs and try to push the lid off with your nose.  If you do it right you are rewarded with margarine wrappers to shred, beef bones to consume and moldy crusts of bread.
I don't think Berkeley does this, but most dogs love trash cans.  Mine is under the sink with a baby lock on the cabinet door.
DROOL:
Is what you do when your mom and dad have food, and you don't. To do this properly you must sit as close as you can and look sad and let the drool fall to the floor, or better yet, on their laps.
WASTEBASKET:
This is a dog toy filled with paper, envelopes, and old candy wrappers. When you get bored, turn over the basket and strew the papers all over the house until your mom and dad comes home.

SOFAS:
Are to dogs like napkins are to people. After eating it is polite to run up and down the front of the sofa and wipe your face clean.

LEASH:
A strap which attaches to your collar, enabling you to lead your mom and dad where you want him/her to go.

BUMP:
The best way to get your mom and dad's attention when they are drinking a fresh cup of coffee or tea.
Do you just want to share?  :-)
LEAN:
Every good dog's response to the command "sit!", especially if your mom and dad are dressed for an evening out. Incredibly effective before black-tie events.
SNIFF:
A social custom to use when you greet other dogs until your person makes you stop.
Paddington's favorite thing though is to lick every visitor's leg and ankle.   Every. Single. Person.   It makes me a little crazy.  But, he's sweet.
DOG BED:
Any soft, clean surface, such as the white bedspread in the guest room or the newly upholstered couch in the living room.

Do you relate to any of these?   I do.   I've had dogs step IN my coffee cup as they ran by/over me on the couch.   I've had dogs try to get into trash cans (hence the baby lock(.  And I've seen so many "social greetings" between dogs.   It's all part of the joy of owning dogs.

TAKING A TRIP

A little detour here.  Our family has been busy. Long trips, short trips.

I told you we made a short trip.   The dogs didn’t get to go  πŸ˜©  My granddaughter took care of them   It’s not an easy job.  The two girls, Cinnamon and Mistletoe, are so afraid of everyone but me.  The boys, Piper and Paddington, are pretty easy   Dickens is more needy with eye drops, belly bands and being carried   But he’s so loving and he deserves special care.

We stopped at BUC-EES. If you’re from the south, you probably know about this place.  It’s an experience.
One of my daughters is on a trip, too.
Lily loves her mom and dad.
Dave is definitely a mama’s boy.  But the grandkids are helping care for them, too.  Don’t worry Dave.  They’ll be home soon.
You can tell she’s not close by.
We don’t have lions and elephants here.
We don’t have baboons either.
The southern hemisphere sky is amazing.  Where do you think she is?
My other daughter stayed local with her outing.  She saw the lighthouse where she got engaged.
Gigi went along. She loves the water and playing w her dog friend in the country.
She was exhausted and napped all the way home.
Charlie was into full nap mode at home.  He’s 18 now so he doesn’t go far.

Dickens is tired just hearing about it all.  Trips are fun but they can be exhausting.  I’m taking a few days going slow.  Are you traveling this summer??

MOM IS HOME!

Cinnamon was so relieved when we came home.
Mistletoe wasn’t far behind.  Piper and Paddington know we return when we’re gone several days.   Dickens just ran around grabbing toys. 😍
We took a few of the grandkids to see the botanical gardens in Atlanta.   Moana was there!
There were “Enchanted Trees”.  They were magical.
I’m not a gardener, but I was amazed at all the different areas there.  I may have to use some of the ideas.
There was Alice in Wonderland area. Wow.  I imagined the Pekes running around among the chess pieces.
My granddaughter loved it.
Going to see things is fun.  But there’s nothing like the homecoming from the Pekes. 🐾πŸ₯°

WHERES MOM

We had to go out of town so my granddaughter stayed w our dogs.
Cinnamon is only trusting of me.  But after a day, she let my granddaughter pet her. Briefly!
Cinnamon was just waiting for me to return.  We had her as a permanent foster because of her terror of other people.  Now she’s a member of our family.   She’s ours for the rest of her life.
Piper and Mistletoe are both waiting, too.  Piper loves most people.  Mistletoe also just trusts me.
She thinks more Pekingese are on the bed w her. πŸ₯°πŸ˜Š
Don’t worry guys. We’re almost home.  We missed you, too 🏑
