PHOEBE

Phoebe came into rescue in October of 2009. She was in a shelter and not doing well. She was absolutely terrified and had a bad eye, so no one was looking at her to adopt. They just passed her by.

She came to us and stayed at my house for awhile. She was just so timid she didn't want us to touch her. She was great with the other dogs, and here she is on the ottoman with Starlight. She went to her foster home in Maryland and her foster mom fell in love with her.

She was adopted, but she wasn't doing well, so she came back to her foster mom who was so glad-- she said she wasn't going anywhere else! Phoebe has blossomed there and found her own special spot by the window. She has relaxed and loves her family. She even goes to the groomer and does fine. Look how pretty she is!

And look at her smile-- she has come so far. Is rescue worth it-- yes, every moment! Phoebe is an example of how important rescue is. Thank you to everyone who donates to help us to do this. We couldn't do it without you.

GRACIE AND DENALI

This is Gracie McGhee-- she is a three year old foster dog that is just a sweetheart. She was a breeder's dog, so it took a while to trust people.

This is Denali. She was adopted by Marilyn several years ago (2007) when her owner had to go to an assisted living home and could no longer take care of her.

Both Gracie and Denali have hurt their backs somehow- Gracie was going to meet her possible future mom today so we've had to put that on hold. Please lift up Gracie and Denali so that they can feel better quickly!

SASSY MARIE, HANNAH AND DIDI

Look at Sassy Marie now.

She barely resembles the little injured Peke we took into rescue this summer.

She has had her surgery and will have another recheck next week to see if she can spend more time outside of the playpen. She does love being on the deck and wandering (with supervision) in the yard.

The sun on her back feels so good.

She can be outside with her friends and they can keep an eye on her.

Hannah Joe is one of them. Hannah was keeping her company. Hannah is very shy and has never let me pet her when I've been at Jeanne's. But, she sure trusts Jeanne and Bill.

Look at her smile-- she feels so much better now.

Didi is keeping an eye on Sassy also. Just one eye. It gives her charm. :-)

And they are both very content to just hang out together. Oh, my, there's that tongue! So cute!!!

JASON

We received a request to help this senior Pekingese from a Maryland shelter. It's harder to place senior Pekes, but we couldn't say no.

They think he's at least ten years old, but he still sees well. He doesn't hear much though. He is great with other dogs.

He went to Jeanne's house for vetting and he isn't crazy about staying in an xpen--he isn't housetrained yet (or has a bladder infection). He loved wandering in her beautiful back yard. He has a little back leg problem, but he gets around fine.

Jeanne gave him a bath and got the mats out of his fur. He went to the vet on Friday for any medical care he needs (bloodwork, etc). He is being neutered and having a much needed dental. He also has to have a biopsy done of a growth on his back end. His ears are being cleaned and treated, and he'll be on antiobics for awhile.

Jason is a sweet boy of only 12 pounds. His medical costs will be high, so if you're able to help, we have set up a chip-in for him.

If all goes well, Jason will go to his foster home on Sunday. He's a sweet boy and deserves to be helped and most of all, to be loved. We can do that!

PEPPER

We do not often find out where a shelter dog has come from. But, in Pepper's case, we did! She had been microchipped by her original owner, so we were able to contact him.

He has shared pictures with me of Pepper (formerly Blacky) as a puppy. Here she is with her sister, Whitey. The owner had found another home for Pepper because her sister kept picking on her and he thought he was making a good decision.

Unfortunately, the new owner was NOT a good owner. She would beat Pepper when she didn't come back inside soon enough-- yet the owner put her out to go to the bathroom, without a fenced yard, with no supervision. We found out from Pepper's foster mom that Pepper was terrified of garages-- we wonder if this is where she was brought in and "got in trouble" for something out of her control. Owners like this make me crazy. I've run into this before-- people just put a dog out the door thinking it will not go anywhere.

Pepper liked to sit on the shore and watch her former family on their kayaks. Obiously, someone was right there watching her and taking her picture.

We contacted the previous owner, and let him know we had Pepper. He would take her back-- but he still had Whitey, so the situation of Pepper being picked on would probably remain the same. So, he said if we could find her a home where she would be happy, that would be okay-- if we could not, he would take her back.

Pepper is a beautiful little girl. We had all her vaccines done, bloodwork and she had to have two major teeth pulled that were cracked. Whoa, those teeth cost us!

But, look at her-- of course, we would help her to feel as good as she could.

She's going to her new home next week. Her new owners are very excited that she's coming!

I think Pepper will be, too-- but her foster mom is sure going to miss her! Thank you, Genise, for all you have done for her!

BELLA AND RUBY

Bella and Ruby came into rescue in July of 2010. Jeanne fell in love with these two and Bella is our "spokespuppy" on our web site. If you haven't seen it, check it out. Bella and Ruby were adopted together and live in a wonderful home in Maryland. Their parents stay in touch and we are so happy about that!

They are obviously well cared for-- look at this picture! I just want to kiss those little faces and I know Jeanne does. I want to thank their parents for giving their a wonderful forever home!
