RESCUE IS WORK

When you take in a large number of dogs, it take a lot of planning, setting up appts, taking dogs for neuter/spay,  ophthalmologist appointments and dentals.

Dickens has his dental yesterday.  So many ground down teeth and so many roots that had to be removed.   He will be on soft food for awhile.   Now those bad teeth are gone, and he is on the healing path now.

Meanwhile, Mistletoe is exploring.  Table top?  No problem.
She thought a pile of clean clothes made a great bed.
“Want to cuddle?”
For today, we will all go slow.  I’m recovering from the flu.  Dickens will be healing too.  And the rest?  We will all just hang out.
Winter keeps changing her outfit. I think this one is the best fit.  She’s a little thing. Curl up w me Winter.  Let’s just go slow.  If we happen to snooze, all the better. πŸ’€πŸ’€

PIPER’S DNA

Piper and Paddington came into rescue 6 years ago in February.
Piper was the more timid of the two but Paddington saw him as his “dad” since Piper was a year older (almost exactly).
I knew Paddington was a Peke. I was told Piper was a Malti-poo.   I didn’t really think about it but I decided to check it out.
What surprised me was that he was 2% Peke.  Where🀣??   The results were:

46% Shih Tzu  πŸ˜³

43% Maltese  (so that part was right)

4% Havanese

3% Toy and Miniature Poodle  (only 3%??)

2% Pekingese

So instead of being a Malti-Poo, he’s a Malti-Tzu.  I’m surprised.  He has some curly hair so I was sure he had a lot of poodle.  It’s just fun. It doesn’t matter to Piper and Paddington - they are best friends forever.  And they let Cinnamon into that close tie.  So sweet!  ❤️❤️❤️

GABRIEL AND FIZZIWIG

I wrote this last week but I’m not sure I posted it. So I begin w a new picture of Fizziwig (r) and Gabriel.  They are doing great in their foster home.
Gabriel (above) is on his way to his foster home.
So is Fizziwig.  They went together and I love that.
Their foster mom came a long way.  She wanted to meet all the dogs here.
Callie was excited to meet someone new.
Cinnamon was her normal terrified self.  (I held her and that helped a little but she never calmed down 😒. I’m the only one she trusts.
It was funny because both dogs stayed close to their new foster mom and to each other.
They have met their doggy cousin.
Both were very relaxed.  Made my heart feel good. Gabriel and Nicholas are continuing their rescue journey. ❤️❤️

SWEATER TIME

It’s been cold.  It IS winter.  But all the new dogs needed to have extra help staying warm.
I had a lot of sweaters and coats but friends shared w me since this group needed small sixes that I no longer had. I had given most of mine away.
I had Christmas sweaters. Most of those have been exchanged if I had others that fit.
Jolly had a navy sweater.   He’s tiny.
We have red sweaters and purple ones.
Dickens looks good in his red jacket.
We had a pile of sweater dogs.
I love this one. It’s a hoodie w a ball on the cap.
We had orange jackets and snowflake sweaters.
Striped ones and dog bone ones. None care what kind they have on.  They just know they’re warm.  That’s good on a cold day.
(Melinda and Barb, what’s the temperature in Australia? I have the flu 😩 so I’d love some of your sunshine!)

KRINGLE

Kringle was in the first group of the #πŸŽ„24 rescue.
When we got him, he was not in good shape.  The shelter only released those who had reached a 4/9 body score.  Some came to the shelter w a 1/9 body score.   Kringle was very very thin.
Now he has gained some weight and loves being on his foster mom’s lap.  He’s never received so much attention.  ❤️
His hair is getting soft and he has a bright future ahead.  πŸ₯°

DICKENS-HAPPY SUNDAY

This face.  Dickens is one of the older #Christmas24 rescues.  His age is 8-10.   His face is kind of homely but precious.  The first time I saw him, I loved him.  He loves to be held and today he is keeping me company while I rest.  I’m still under the weather (flu) but I have a lot of little ones helping me rest.  I think it’s a good day to slow down.

MOM IS SICK

Yesterday I did not feel well.  But three of us were transporting.  Two dogs came down to Richmond and two went north to Maryland.  Tinsel and Nicholas went to their foster to adopt home.  We can do that w people who have adopted before.  We’ve already done all their checks.
Jellybean and Snickerdoodle moved to another foster home.

After the transport it was time to get everyone settled.
My gang were all on the couch w me. They said they would take care of me.
I may be missing until I feel better.  Time for bed. πŸ˜·πŸ›️

COMING FOR A VISIT

Dickens (in front) and Nicholas are wondering what is happening. I’ve been doing desk work trying to get on top of the Christmas Peke file.  Progress is slow because there is so much of it.  The dogs hang out w me while I’m working on it.
Now there are two more for several days. My friend fosters Mistletoe and Winter and she had to go out of town. So the girls are here.  Jingle (on top) is greeting Winter. Winter had her spay and hernia repair yesterday.  Two cone heads.
I sat on the couch w Winter because she was so drowsy from the meds.
Mistletoe is greeting my husband.  But when I sat down, it was a stampede toward the couch. 🀣  At least I get a little space on the end. I’m not sure how much I will get done today. 😝

CINNAMON--NOT AMUSED

I put a hoodie on Cinnamon and she was NOT amused. She needs an extra layer to stay warm outside.  It's COLD.

There was snow all over.   Tuk Tuk asked "WHY?"
My grand dog Dave was a little confused at first, but then he had a blast.

Getting all the dogs outside is quite a feat.  Some of the Christmas Pekes need help getting down the steps, out into the snow. I bring a few down the steps.  Then I go up the steps to get the others who are afraid of steps.  The ones I just took down try to follow me.  After several tries, they are all in the yard.
Callie has no problem.  She just heads out to the bushes.
Tinsel went out for a short time.   Below freezing temperatures are just too cold!
