OH BUMMER

I hurt my back last week.   I thought it was just minor, but it has continued on into something painful.   So, I'm laying around a lot with ice  packs.    The dogs are laying around, too.   Pi-Pi, my daughter's Shepherd-Lab mix is in one of the bigger Peke beds.
Kai Kai is on the floor, but later, he'll move to a higher level.
Rammi Ju usually hangs out in this spot between the coffee table and the couch where he can keep an eye on me.
Scooter is spread out here by the rocker.
Lottie, my daughter's 14 year old found Pi-Pi's bed.    Guess that's why Pi was in the Peke bed.
Starlight finds a cool spot in the kitchen.
Max just picks any spot that has a toy!
KoKo doesn't care where she is.
But, Lexie does-- she wanted to be on the couch with me.   Yes, curled up beside me.
Awe, Kai  Kai has found his favorite spot now-- on top of the couch cushions.
Scooter just wants some snuggle pets.
Yes, if Mom's laying out, so are the dogs!  It's a quiet day around here.    Hope to be back in action soon!

FAREWELL SWEET TREVOR

Trevor came to us in 2008.  Here I was with him, when I got him as my foster dog.   Trevor was turned into a shelter in S.E. Virginia.    He was found by someone when they heard something scratching at their back door at midnight.   Trevor was standing there, in the cold, pleading  to come inside.   The lady had NO idea how he got inside the fenced yard-- she assumes that someone saw that he was wandering on a busy street and put him over her fence where he would be safe.   He was taken in for the night, fed, and given a warm place to sleep.  In the morning, she searched the local neighborhoods looking for his guardians but  was unable to find them.    She would have held him longer, but she had 3 boxers who did not want a small dog in their domain.
Trevor was about 4 years old we thought, but he may have been older.  It's so hard to know.
Trevor was adopted by Monica and Mark and he became their sweet boy.    He would help look after their foster dogs for them-- here he was with Dublin.
Trevor had several strokes and seemed to come back after each one.  But, this past week-end, he began to decline and his mom and dad knew it was time to say goodbye.    He was on his mom's lap, in his favorite doggie bed.   He was surrounded by love from the moment he came into  rescue, until his last moment with his mom and dad.    You will be greatly missed-- he was a joy.   Rest now, sweet boy.

PRINCESS LILY

This is Princess Lily.   Isn't she cute!
I met her mom because she's the one who was instrumental in saving Lexie.
Lily's mom loves Pekes and she heard about Lexie.
She had to do something and contacted us.
I'm sure Lily was glad her mom was helping one of her Peke "sisters."
I know Lily must be sad that Lexie has so many health problems..
But, she's cheering her on, and will probably want to meet her one day!  Yep, she's in the car, ready to come!

JAX--PARALYZED PEKE

Jax (aka Jack) is a 3 year old Peke mix.   He became paralyzed somehow and his family couldn't take care of him.   Toy Breeds in Need rescue took him in.    I'm so glad they did.
He had sores on his back legs from dragging himself around on the basement cement.    When the rescue went to get him, he was in a crate too small for him, smelling of urine.    I know he'll never see that crate again!  Look at him now, a soft bed, toys...
He has friends in his foster home and is having a grand time playing.    Jax is paralyzed in the back end, but he is showering his foster parents with lots of kisses.   He's a very sweet boy.
Paralyzed dogs can lead a wonderful life.   His new scoot sack helps protect his legs from abrasion as he pulls himself around-- and he looks pretty spiffy in it!  In the words of his rescue group, Paralyzed dogs "deserve our admiration. They are still dogs. They continue to love with their whole hearts and will happily work twice as hard to do the things they enjoy doing. They do not wallow. They do not complain. They keep moving, looking forward to every sunny day, every new toy, every meal, every moment with their family."
Jax has begun supplements and acupuncture treatment to see if that will help him regain the use of his back legs.   He's a happy boy!    If you would like to give him a home, email adoptions@toybreedsinneed.org.

DESI AND THE FOURTH OF JULY

Desi didn't forget us-- sometimes moms are so busy, they don't have time for photo sessions.  I sure heard about it!    I had emails from people asking where Desi was on the Fourth of July-- they know she's my holiday girl.   So funny.
 So, here's Desi!!
She is so nonchalant about photo sessions-- are you done yet?
Here she is with beautiful Onslow.     He is so sweet.   He came to them when he needed back surgery and is now part of the family.
Wanda joined in, too.   The three make a wonderful Fourth of July group.   Hope it was a wonderful day for everyone!

LEXIE'S FRIENDS

I love how in rescue, you meet new people who love these little dogs as much as I do.  I just met a new friend who has three Pekes herself!    Aren't they cute!   Woola is on top of the chair, Oliver is on the left and Rosa Lee is on the right.
Here's a side view of cute Oliver.
Like most Pekes, they enjoy sunning on the deck.    Mine love to do that.
Just look at Oliver and then look at Lexie below.  Can you see the resemblance?  Amazing!
Little Lexie seems to be doing better-- and she's eating so much better.   She is only 9.2 pounds so we need to get some weight on her and get her healthy.  She is still a very sick little girl, but her eyes are bright and she has a strong will to live.    Thank you to all of Lexie's friends who are encouraging her (and me) through this!

FAREWELL CHIPPER

This is Chipper-- he belonged to my friend, Cherry.   Cherry has a huge heart for little ones and she adopted many of our special needs' Pekes.   All those have passed on now except for Muffin.
Chipper was a loving boy, and I met him when she adopted Muffin.   He was so sweet.
He lived a wonderful life and was a great brother to all Cherry's Pekes.
Muffin (when she was here with me) is now Cherry's only dog.   She is older now, doesn't see or hear as well, but I hope she has many years left with her mom.
Your mom and Muffin will miss you, sweet boy.  Rest now, little one.
