DIGGER COMES TO VISIT

Digger  came into rescue with Kacey and Tink-- we think they may be his parents.   Digger is 3 years old.
My daughter and her family met Jeanne to pick up Digger.
My daughter was raised with Pekes (of course she was!), and both her Pekes, Wicket and Lottie, had passed away.   She has an old Shepherd-Lab mix, Pi, and a Chocolate Lab, Gigi-- but she sure missed her Pekes.
So, when the three Pekes came into rescue, she volunteered to foster one.
They live on a farm, so the first order of business was to make sure Digger had a secure place to run around outside.  The farm is 15 acres, and they decided not to fence it all-- LOL.
Trips to the hardware store were in order and they got the fence up.
Digger is already loved a lot there.   HMMM, I wonder if he'll stay.  :-)   He's a sweet boy.   They have come to spend the week-end and I'm getting to know him, too.   It will be a Camp Runamuck house this week-end,  small dogs, big dogs, bits all over.   I love it!!

HAPPY FIRST BIRTHDAY, SUGAR BIT!

Sugar Bit is a year old today.  I've shared her adventures with you on this blog.
She is into climbing big time-- and standing on chairs.   Be calm, be calm!
She gives me her squinty grin a lot.   She loves stairs-- but we don't love her ON the stairs.
She was a little one when she was born-- a blessing we never expected.
Madeline loved Sugar Bit when Madeline was my foster dog.  We have seen her since then, and Sugar Bit still loves her.
 Starlight adores her baby.
 Sugar Bit has "hair days."
Sometimes, it is just all over!  How in the world did you do this?
She has been around our dogs and her dogs from the time she was born.
They say having dogs makes you healthier-- so she must be incredibly healthy!
Her dogs, Pandy (adopted from us) and Leo the Lab, are at her house across the street.
I had to have two bouncy seats for her and Starlight.
Starlight made sure she had a lot of kisses!
Gigi (my granddog) and Starlight are hoping Sugar Bit will drop things for them-- they do not usually have to wait long.
Pi, my granddog is almost 15, and she is the Nanny dog to all the kids.  Best dog in the world.   I hope we have her for years!
Floyd has put up with the baby-- she loves to "hug" him.   Floyd doesn't have many teeth, so he is pretty safe. :-)
Happy Birthday, Sugar Bit.   We are so glad God sent you to us!!   We love you!

FAREWELL J.R.

J.R. was the beloved dog of his mom and dad.
He became brother to Theodora when she was adopted in 2005.   She was older, and J.R. was young, but they were good friends.
When I met his parents, I knew right away that this would be a wonderful home.
J.R.'s family adopted another Peke from us after his sister passed away.
Jules Verne was older, but they had almost three years together before Jules passed away.
He was a beautiful boy, like his brother, J.R.
J.R. had  some on-going health issues and he passed away on Good Friday.   He was about 12-13, I think.  He had a wonderful life once he was rescued by his family.   I'm so sorry for their loss.  I know a piece of their hearts went with him.

RESCUE EXPLAINED...

Rescue changes us.   This was written by a person who does rescue.
It really touched my heart.

RESCUE EXPLAINED......
 The neglect changes you.
The abuse hardens you.
The suffering breaks you.
The ignorance angers you.
The indifference disturbs you.
The injustice destroys you.
On a daily basis…your faith will be tested.

Your heart will be wounded....
Your soul will be altered.

On a weekly basis…you’ll question yourself.

You’ll question your strength.
You’ll question the world.

On a monthly basis…you’ll fall down.

You’ll get up.
You’ll go on…

 On a yearly basis…you’ll look back…

You’ll see faces…
You couldn’t save them.
You’ll learn to mourn.
To grieve.
To sob.
You’ll learn to trust a little less.
To do a little more.
To fight a little harder.
You’ll learn to try.
To hope.
To pray.
You’ll learn to fail.
To succeed.
To accept.
You’ll learn when to hold on.
When to give up.
When to let go.
You’ll learn who you are.
What you stand for.
Why that matters.

Then… at times… you’ll forget why you matter.

You’ll question what you’re doing.
You’ll wonder if it’s worth it.

 But…here’s the good news… When you forget…

When you question…
When you wonder…
All you have to do…
Is take a look around…
And you’ll see them.

 You’ll see their faces.

You’ll see their smiles.
You’ll feel their love.

In their eyes, you’ll see their journeys…

You’ll remember their beginnings…
You’ll know how far they’ve come…
You’ll remember when they didn’t know you…
When they didn’t trust you…
When they’d given up.

You’ll remember how you healed them…

How you loved them…
How they loved you, too.
And as you look back…
You’ll want to move forward…
For them… and because of them.

In your darkest hours, you’ll look around…

To find the differences made…the hope given…
and the lives saved…
Because you existed.
In those moments, when you look into their eyes…
Every doubt will be erased.
Every question will be answered.
Every worry will subside.
Because in that instant…in each of your hearts…
You both share the very same thought: “Every bit of pain was worth it…for this moment here with you.”
And honestly…no matter what else happens…
Those moments hold all the strength you need…
To keep going.

Rescue is pain.
Rescue is joy.
Rescue is worth it…because they are worth it.
And that’s the honest truth.
~ Ashley Owen Hill

Thank you to all of you who have rescued, who have fostered, who have helped support us, who have encouraged us.    Thank you to those who help transport and loved even for the night until these little ones can get to us.    You have made a difference.    Thank you.

MAXWELL "MAXIMUS"

Maximus-- now Max/Maxwell-- came into rescue in 2010.   He was an owner surrender.
He was two years old and so sweet.   We have so many wonderful Pekes come through our homes.
Beth and David fostered him and they discovered how much he loved his ball!  He could even "throw it back" to them.   Click here: YouTube - maximusball
Great friends of mine adopted him.   She called me the other night to let me know he had hurt his back.   This can happen so easily with Pekes.   Having gone through this a number of times, I shared what I did for mine-- and her vet had given her good advice on Max's care.  (He's the second dog this week to have a back problem-- not counting my Kai Kai.)
Max is resting in his crate, which is open at the top, so he doesn't feel shut in.   I love using playpens or open crates instead of closing in dogs.   So many we get have been crated so much that I hate to do that.   I know Max was kept in a crate all day with his previous owner, with no water available the whole time he was in there.   He came to us with a bladder infection.   Water is so important to have available all the time.
Max doesn't want to move much right now, but he will soon and that's when it's important to still keep them still, not letting them run and jump.   It's takes time to get over a back injury.
Soon, he'll be playing with his ball again and having fun.   Get well soon, little one!
