Emmie would love some sugar I'm sure. But is it good for her? Most dogs love fruit and most are okay. Fruits have sugar in them, but as long as it's not too much, it's okay. (We don't want them to become overweight either.)But Halloween is coming up-- and that means SUGAR!
If you have children at home (or have candy to hand out), there will be sugar in your home.
A lot of sugary things have Xylitol in them-- and it's very toxic to dogs. It can cause tiredness, throwing up, and even seizures. It's critical to get emergency care if they ingest any. Artificial coffee sweeteners often contain xylitol-- and that's not good.
So, is sugar okay? Not really.
Some people let their pets "bribe" them into things they should not have. They should not have brown sugar, powdered sugar, or any other kind of sugar. Although those aren't toxic, over time, their health will be affected.
An excess of sugar can cause stomach and digestive system issues.
There are plenty of things that your dog CAN eat. It's better to keep them healthy. Halloween is coming-- keep those treats away from them. Their health will be worth it.
