TEDDY

Here's Teddy again. His owners replaced their laundry room cabinets with Teddy's assistance. He was a wonderful crew chief, giving clear directions to his peke crew. He checked every inch of the work to see if it met with his satisfaction. It must have "passed" his test as his owners kept finding him curled up in one of the bottom cabinets each time it was opened. He's just too cute and has a way of making the dreaded household chores much more fun.

GRACIE AND HER SLEEPING AREAS

Here's Gracie again. What a beauty!! Gracie is an only dog and she demonstrates this whenever another dog comes in the house. She is happy to have them in the yard and will walk and play with visitors but not in her house. Her mom says she is like an old maid who doesn't want her routine changed.
She has special sleeping/resting areas all over the house! She can just as easily lay on the couch or the plush pink chair in the living room. Gracie is definitely a PEKINGESE. She doesn't want her toys moved from where she has them even if it is in the MIDDLE of the kitchen floor.
Curled up on the sheets that were previously folded is fine, too. It took a lot of effort to get them unfolded and spread out just like she wants.
Look at that face. She looks a lot like Starlight and we're going to have a joint photo session soon with both of them.

Gracie loves to see all the dogs on the blog-- but she just doesn't want any of them to come live with her. :-)

Starlight and my sister

Starlight is sitting with my sister. Nancy lives next door to me-- which I love!-- so Starlight has been able to get to know her and trust her. It only took about SEVEN MONTHS for Starlight to even let her touch her.
But, now, she is content to sit with Nancy.
And be cute and snuggly. Like she should be all the time!
She seems very comfortable with Nancy. I wish she could trust other people, too, but part of her just won't let that happen.
Yes, Starlight, I'm taking your picture again!
Starlight will be staying at "the farm" with my daughter while I'm gone. It gives her a break from Max who keeps squeaking his ball at her and making her jump up and down-- so funny to watch!!!

MORE ENGLISH PEKES

This is one of Rita's Pekes from years ago-- she was a tiny thing, all of about 8 pounds. Isn't she beautiful. I love the white spot on her forehead. Her name was Sally. (I love that name-- it was my mom's name. )

I have more English Pekes. This is Oliver, Wendy's son. I think I have the pictures right. I would love to go meet them IN England!
April, whose show name was Heaven Sent, is below. She is stunning!!
And this is Wendy-- it LOOKS windy! She is gorgeous. She is Oliver and Sir Rupert's mom-- Sir Rupert was on the blog earlier this year.
I never tire of looking at Rita's beautiful dogs!

More Shelter Pekes

I told you there were THREE Pekes at the shelter.
These are the other two. Aren't they gorgeous! I was there when their owner came to claim them.
The little escapers had gotten out for a run, but Mom came to get them. Sweet boys! I'm so glad they went home.

Need a Name!

WELL, I JUST RECEIVED NEWS THAT THIS LITTLE GUY WAS ALLOWED TO GO BACK TO HIS OWNERS. I HOPE HE IS OKAY AND THAT HE WILL BE TAKEN CARE OF. HE SEEMED VERY HAPPY, SO HOPEFULLY THEY WILL TAKE CARE OF HIM. THE SHELTER KNOWS TO CONTACT ME IF HE COMES BACK. JUST PRAY FOR THIS LITTLE ONE!

I went to animal control today to check on the dog I had on yesterday. Thank you for the responses to the need for a foster mom for the Peke in animal control. He is so sweet. Okay, okay, he may have a little something mixed in, but those sad eyes just pleaded with me to help him.
Look at the beautiful coloring on his back.
Here he is with Cathy, or "Little Cathy." I'm 5'1" tall and she makes me feel TALL!! :-) She is incredible with the dogs there-- and what a difference she has made in this shelter since she got there! There are doggy play yards, wading pools for the bigger dogs to play in, big fenced areas for them to run and play. The shelter is incredibly clean and the dogs are happy there. As happy as they can be in a shelter-- but this one is great.
He decided to play with some of the toys in the play yard. I threw a ball and he went to get it. Okay, that's all he did-- he didn't bring it back to me.
He didn't seem aggressive at all! He is probably not even two years old-- very puppy like.
"Look at me jump!" And look at that grin.
He loves to play-- and kept coming to me to be petted.
We will hopefully get him on Thursday, after he's neutered by the shelter vet. It's right on the premises-- so the dogs are well cared for.

I need a name for him-- so far here are some suggestions. Scrappy (He does look a bit scrappy now! But, he'll soon be beautiful.), Tuggles/Tug, Sesame. What do you think of those? Let me know your suggestions too!

Time to Clean the Deck

IF YOU LIVE IN OUR RESCUE AREA AND CAN HELP FOSTER, I NEED HELP. THERE IS A YOUNG PEKE IN THE SHELTER NEAR ME AND I NEED A FOSTER HOME FOR HIM. HE'S BEEN SEIZED FROM THE OWNER AND I MUST HAVE A FOSTER HOME. HE IS ONLY 2 YEARS OLD AND ABOUT 8 POUNDS-- VERY THIN. PLEASE EMAIL ME AT HAVENINHIM@AOL.COM IF YOU CAN HELP. I'M GOING OUT OF TOWN SO AM UNABLE TO FOSTER HIM. I HAVE A HOUSE/PET SITTER WHO WILL BE HERE WITH ALL MINE, BUT CAN'T GET A NEW ONE FOR ME.
I just found out there are THREE Pekes in this shelter. I need foster homes.
++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
If you own a house, there are things you just need to do every year or so. Like cleaning and resealing your deck. We had to do that this year-- that is the "royal we" which means Matt had to do it! And the dogs were NOT invited to help. They had to stay in the yard or inside. They look like they're suffering-- NOT.
The deck was gated off so they couldn't help. Everything on the deck was in the yard or on the brick pathway. The chairs, the hammock, the plants-- all removed.

It was pretty crowded once all that stuff came into the yard.

Pots were put on the Pekingese loungers-- and Starlight looked at me as if to say I had put things on HER place. Oh, well, Starlight, life is rough.

The umbrellas were leaning on the fence. The hammock was not doing its job of supporting me-- it was just hanging there. Flower pots were placed randomly around the yard.

The deck was empty and the work began. I observed carefully so if Matt needed my opinion, I could give it.

Yes, it was a mess below-- the hammock supports were just "there."

The dogs just didn't understand why they couldn't get on their beloved deck! So unreasonable!

Now the deck is finished!! Matt even pressure washed all my metal furniture and I gave it another coat of glossy black paint. And I DID THAT! All by myself-- :-).

My gazing ball is back in place, and Max approved-- you can see his tail in the corner.

Yes, I think he is happy-- now he can hang out in his corner where he can watch over his domain. We need protection from attack birds and squirrels.

Max is such a great dog-- he takes his job seriously!

Now that the deck is done, I'm sure I'll find more projects we can do while Matt is off work for a few weeks.
