DAISY COMES TO VISIT

Daisy came into rescue with her sister, Roxy.  Roxy was adopted and now Daisy is being adopted!  Daisy is about 12 years old and her new mom wanted to adopt another senior.   I love that!!
Daisy came into rescue last July.  She and her sister were in terrible shape and needed help.
Daisy was HUGE when she came into rescue, but she has been able to slim down a lot.  Sherry, her foster mom, did a wonderful job with her.
She met my Max.   He's very good with visitors-- all of mine are good with those coming to spend the night or a few days.
Daisy met Floyd next-- Floyd is such a sweet one.   He just wanted to welcome her.
Daisy wandered off toward the Pekingese pathway-- I need to re-do it this summer.    All the stones need to be reset, but the Pekes don't mind.
Floyd followed Daisy to see where she was going.
 Hello, Floyd!
Max posed, too.   Can you see all the oak pollen that has been dropping everywhere!
Floyd and Chumley were wandering together.  Sometimes, I have to take a double-look.
Daisy met all the dogs and kept wagging her tail.   She is so sweet!
You meet your new mom today at the PVPC picnic!    Yahoo!!

HEART DOGS

A friend sent me a picture of her heart dog, Sassy.    Here she was as a puppy.
She died last year and is missed.    I know how special heart dogs are-- most of us have had one.
Sassy was an older girl and she had a wonderful life.  Her owner did everything medically she could to help her.   But, we can't fix old-- don't we wish we could!
Please tell me about a dog that was YOUR heart dog-- you can post a picture on facebook and tag me (Linda Maxwell-- or email me at haveninhim@aol.com).   Tell me why your heart dog was so important.
I don't know why some climb into the depths of our heart more than others, but they do.   Sassy Sugar Plum was loved this way by her mom.    We love our heart dogs!

BUFFY

Buffy came into rescue in 2009.  She came from out of our area, but was in great need of rescue.   We worked with another group to get her.
She was adopted by Ollie's family.  She was wondering if he would like her.
She wanted to be his friend.
And they did become good friends.
Ollie was one of my fosters, so I wanted him to have the best sister we could give him, and Buffy couldn't have been a better fit.
Buffy always has the most beautiful harnesses on.   She and Ollie are well dressed!
Buffy was diagnosed with bladder stones.   Bladder stones can be VERY painful and cause a dog to have "accidents" in the house.    (If your dog is doing this, please consider having a urinalysis done to see if there is an infection and/or stones--an xray may be needed.)  Buffy had her surgery to remove them, and a stone analysis is being done to see what kind of food she needs to go on.  There are several types of bladder stones, and a special food can help so that she doesn't get stones again.
You can learn more about this:
Buffy is recovering well and is back to her happy self.   And she is taking a well-deserved nap!

FUR-EVER FOSTERS

Sometimes in rescue, there are those dogs that for one reason or another who remain with their foster families as a permanent foster.  (Bingo above)
It's not their fault, but their issues make them hard to adopt.  (JJ above)
Whether it is due to a medical condition requiring hospice care or....(Charlie above)
a traumatizing experience from their past, some dogs may be considered as unadoptable by traditional standards.  (McKenzie above)
When we rescue a dog, we make a commitment to them for life.    (Shelby above)
Our goal is to be there for the older, the sick, and the "un-adoptable" dogs that have been abandoned at a time in their lives when they need comfort, companionship, and medical care. (Smushie above)
These dogs continue to need our help..... (Tucker above)
They may need prescriptions, medical procedures and special food.   (Floyd above)
If you would like to help us take care of these special ones, you can make a one-time donation, or sign up for our monthly support so that their needs will be taken care of.   If you would like to sponsor one of the dogs on this blog, you can specify that.   We do not give up on these little ones who have had a rough time in their life.   We continue to help, love, snuggle and care for them.  That is what we do.   You can go to our web site or email us at potomacpekes@gmail.com.
We find beauty in the most incomprehensible places and the otherwise
homely faces. It is our gift to see beyond the dirt, terror, sadness and
defeat and find the true soul that lies within. We are Rescue.

BOWIE ADOPTED

Bowie came into rescue in January of this year.   He was found as a stray in Richmond.   His coat was so matted that he could barely walk and he had to be shaved down.
In spite of all he went through, he was a sweetheart.   He loved the attention he was getting.
He was a gem in his foster home, getting along with the other dogs there, so grateful to be safe.
He loved his special bed and blankets.
He settled in as he waited for a forever home.
And that application came-- and he had a home visit and he was so good.  They fell in love with him-- it would be impossible not to love this sweet, funny, happy, goofy boy.   I'm so glad you have your own home now!   We love you, Bowie!

KACEY-- SWEET BOY!

Kacey came to us several weeks ago from an animal control in Virginia.
Three Pekes were turned into the shelter because the owners (back yard breeders)  were over the limit-- there were supposed to be more turned in, but we only received 3 of them.  I'm concerned about what happened to the rest of them.  That's part of rescue, though.   We can only save those brought into our care and pray for the rest of them.
All three are sweet dogs-- Tink and Digger were the others.    Kacey has a bad knee, so he needs surgery for that before he is adopted.
He received a special bed from Patricia, who has donated beds to so many of our fosters.  We have the best friendships among our friends and supporters!
Melrose/Mel was adopted from us and he and Kacey had quite an adventure the other day.   One of them somehow pushed a fence plank out and they took themselves out on a merry adventure.   They were found quickly, but it shows how important it is to have tags on them all the time..  All our fosters have been microchipped, so that is another way we can be notified.   I have found dogs, though, and if they have a tag on, I can quickly let the owner know where they are.
Kacey is 9 years old and about 19 pounds.   He may be big in size, but he is also big in love.   He is a wonderful Peke.
He has settled into his foster home and will be ready for adoption soon.
This boy is just awesome!
