Today is the last day of July and this month is Lost Pet Prevention Month.
Poppy was in our rescue 7 years ago.
She's a mix, but her shelter picture said "Pekingese!" And I'm so glad she came to us. What a sweet girl.
She was adopted near me, and her owner passed away-- but her granddaughter loved Poppy and had promised her grandmother that she would take care of her.
Poppy had a microchip-- and the other day I was contacted by animal control. Poppy had been picked up and they still had my number on her microchip. I keep a lot of files, and a lot of phone numbers. While on the phone with animal control, I was able to find a number and Poppy was returned to her owner that day. Poppy did not have a collar and tag/phone number on, and this would have really sped up the process. It's so important to keep identification on your pets. You never know if a gate could be left open, or if someone walks in and doesn't close the door all the way. We can be so careful, but stuff still can happen.
Thankfully, Poppy was quickly returned to her home and is safe now. Please make sure your pet has a microchip and that you update the information on it. If you move, or change your number, check your microchip information. And keep a name tag on them. They may wander only a short distance, but a finder can easily help your pet get back home. Poppy is safe! I'm so glad!! 💜
