JASPER

Look at this little boy. This is his shelter picture. He was found in a rural area and they had to trap him to catch him. I know he is fearful of people approaching him and standing over him, but if I kneel down, he comes right to me now. There's something about people towering over him that frightens him. We can only guess at what that might be.
The shelter gave him a flea bath and tried to get some knots off him. They do their best, but there are so many dogs. They took this cute picture. Thank you for all you do there!
You can see some of the mats that were left. They asked for help. One of our helpers picked him up-- and she is a groomer, so she took him and gave him a capstar, which kills fleas within 30 minutes. The fleas were dripping off him. She groomed him, shaving him down and helping his skin to feel better. THANK YOU, COLLEEN!!
Tiffany helped transport the second half of the trip and she brought him to me. He was sick with a drippy nose. :-( We already had a vet appointment for the next morning. I texted my vet to let him know I was coming (I love my vet!).
Jasper needed his vaccines, and all the other vet checks we do. His bloodwork showed he was heartworm postive. I haven't had a heartworm positive dog for awhile, so I was surprised, but I shouldn't be. Jasper was on his own for awhile and neglected, and he's probably never had a heartworm pill. Jasper has to have one eye removed (it was previously injured and is in bad shape) and the other eye needs the fold reduced (that eye has some scarring on it, but he can see). He also is a mouth-breather, so he needs his nose opened up so he can get more oxygen. And yes, he needs to be neutered. Poor guy is going to really get it all.
I took him out in the yard. Who is over there, Jasper?
Don't worry, that's just Scooter in the border grass. Maybe he's trying to play hide-and-seek.
Jasper is only 12 pounds and not a bit aggressive. He wants to be around the other dogs and wags his tail like crazy.
His teeth are in pretty good shape and he doesn't even need a full dental, but my vet will polish them up when he has his surgery. We think he's about 4-5 years old.
Jasper will take several months to get healthy, but once he is ready for adoption, I know he won't last long!
I'm so glad you came into rescue, Jasper. You deserve to be helped and loved. If you want to help with Jasper's medical cost, just email us at potomacpekes.org or go to our web site: www.potomacpekes.org

BRANDY ALL BEAUTIFUL

I want to let you all know that Mei Li was adopted!! She is living in Richmond now and doing great. Maybe they'll want to adopt a brother for her. ;-)
Beautiful Brandy went to the groomer last week. She was terrified-- she was one of the Bristol 18 and she trusts her foster mommy so much. The groomer (at my vet) seemed like a scary place. After a little help, she did fine and even let them pet her. It was a tiring trip, but now she is ready for spring/summer!
Brandy played with a toy. First time ever! Her foster mom doesn't know if she was playing or just mimicking Camden (her foster brother), but it was so cute. It only lasted about a minute or two, but it is such good progress for her. Later, Camden (Mr. Itchy Face) was rubbing his face against the couch pillows and making this soft growly sound because it felt good. She looked at him, did the same thing, and kinda imitated the sound. She is also learning Camden's "baroo." (That's the screaming thing he does when he feels lonely.) Camden, your mom is just going upstairs to get something, she'll be RIGHT back down. Oh, the funny things these Pekes do!!

ROBIN'S PARADE

Corkey's foster mom was in a parade last December. I just got the pictures and they were too cute not to share. Corkey hopes you enjoy them-- and he'll see you at the picnic April 30!! See our web site for information: www.potomacpekes.org

Robin has a neat car and great dogs!! Wait, this is not a real dog. Weren't your real dogs allowed to go?
Nope, this one isn't real either. Really, where are they? I know you have wonderful Pekes. Corkey, your foster dog would have done great, right? Did you hear me, Robin? I'm sure he would have been so calm in the car with people watching him on all sides.
He would have behaved just like this guy-- quietly watching, wearing his hat, not even barking.
I love your car magnet! It gives information on our group and hopefully, people saw it and will remember us when they want to adopt. I love your car, too!

FLOWER POWER

Do you like flowers? Beach Bit does! This is his first spring-- he's seven months now!-- and I know he'll be mesmerized by all the color that is beginning.
We are doing a fundraiser for our foster dogs. You can buy flowers and donate to the group at the same time!
Beautiful flowers are available to plant in your yard.
Desi thinks flowers are essential for posing in a matching outfit.
I think she would like this flower-- it matches what she is wearing.
Arbie (Rose Bud/RB) must love flowers since her original name was Rose Bud. :-)

Enjoy!

ST. LOUIS PEKES

I want to first share this wonderful video of the spirit of this special dog: Click here: One Brave Little Dog +++ ++++ ++++ +++
I have a new Peke friend in St. Louis!! Millie fosters for the St. Louis Senior Dog Project in Missouri. I love the seniors and am so glad to know someone who helps them. It doesn't mean we don't help others, as you will see by this blog. Above is Bo, one of the blind fosters that she kept-- another "foster failure" we've talked about. :-) (I love the foster failures and am so thankful to their new families for keeping them!!!) Bo is just beautiful!!
Here are Ming Sue (her dog) and Tabatha, who is now adopted. They look so precious.
Millie fostered some puppies. Here they are with their new owner, who was happy to adopted a bonded pair. I love it when pairs can stay together! I don't worry about them missing us so much-- okay, I worry about all of them, especially the first few days.
Here are the puppies when she got them, starving for food and affection. Klondike is the big puppy on the right. He's been adopted, too. Couldn't you just kiss his face!?
And last, but still so special, is Rosebud. She's also blind and was one of her fosters that Millie kept. Blind dogs can be amazing, and they use their other senses to get around. As long as you don't move your furniture all the time (oh, I am guilty of that!), they do fine.
Millie also has 2 Japanese Chins and 2 Shih Tzus along with her 3 Pekingese. I know this is a loved group of dogs. Thank you, Millie, for sharing these wonderful pictures and story.

BELLA AND RUBY

Remember Bella and Ruby-- they came into rescue last summer. These are their shelter pictures, terrified little dogs.
They didn't know what was going on in their lives. But, after a short time, they came to our rescue group and lived in Jeanne's house for awhile. Our dream was that they be adopted together.
And they were!! Look at little Bella now. All wrapped up in a blanket and love.
Bella is a happy girl with lots of toys.
"Which one should I play with now?"
Bella wasn't too sure about the snow they had-- I think it was deeper than she was-- is she in a look-out position?
But, being warm on Mom's lap together is the best. Just look at those two-- makes my heart smile!
And being able to keep your best buddy with you in your forever home is wonderful. I'm so glad they family adopted them together!!

RITA aka JINGLES

Rita was one of the Bristol 18 Pekes. She was in terrible shape, thin, dirty. The owners treated her appallingly.
In her foster home, she developed such a wonderful, happy personality that her foster mom began to call her Jingles-- and it stuck.
She has her very own home now and is adored by her family. She is a happy girl with a happy family.
We still have a few Bristol Pekes left-- Gizmo and Brandy. We're so glad the rest found homes-- let's make it 100%! Do you think Brandy or Gizmo would fit into your home?
