SHADOW

I took Shadow into rescue in the fall of 2004.   He was six years old then, and had been kept in a crate 15-20 hours a day.  It was so small, he couldn't even turn around.   He had sores all over him from rubbing again the sides of it-- how owners can think this is okay is just beyond me.  He had no water in there, and was in very serious condition.  

He was bleeding bladder stones-- I could actually see them.    Yet, in spite of it all, he was the sweetest boy.    His owner asked if she could see him one more time, and she came over.   He saw her and ran to jump on my lap-- he didn't want to be with  her.  In my house, he wasn't crated, was getting the medical care he so desperately needed (surgery the day after we got him for one thing).    

Shadow is an older boy now-- about 15.    He is slowing down, and it breaks my heart, but I know this happens.    Shadow was my miracle dog the year I got him, so he has a very special place in my heart.   His mom and I have stayed in touch since she adopted him.

They took in one of the Bristol 18 (Chubs) and he became Pablo and Shadow's side kick.     Here's a painting that was done of the two of them.    They gave me a miniature of this and it's very special to me.

They were often together at the house and at their lake house where Shadow became adept at riding on the kayak.    He didn't want any part of it at first, but when he realized how much fun everyone was having when  he was left behind, he decided to give it a try.   He became a kayak dog!   

He loves to check out the refrigerator.  "Can you give me a treat?"

"It's up there!"

His mom also called him Lord Bashido.  She had special names for all her dogs.    Shadow's nickname is very regal.   She also called him Lord Shadow.  



 When Pablo came, he also became Shadow's "shadow" and his protector.    He must know Shadow is getting older and so he stays close by.

Shadow, you are so special to me-- and I know to your whole family!

Here's what his mom said about Shadow:  "Every day with Shadow has been a blessing and delight. He has a generous soul and just understands his owners. We are so incredibly lucky to have had him part of our world. I would love to have him for another century and travel the stars with him. Thank you for the love and care you gave him. You gave him reason to hope and he will reward you forever."

   I love you, sweet boy!

DUBLIN AT CHRISTMAS

 Dublin came into rescue in the fall.   He had to have back surgery and had a long recovery.  He is doing great now!  I'll post a video at the end of the blog.    

 I asked his foster mom, Monica, why she fostered.   She said she fostered because she wouldn't have had Leo, Phoebe, Max, Maggie, Bobby, Midge, Trevor or Mr. Eddie if someone else had not agreed to foster them first.    She said that just like PVPC says, "rescuing one pet doesn't change the world, but it changes the world for that one pet."   

 Dublin is her foster Peke-- she also fostered Phoebe, and as things would have it, Phoebe ended up finding her forever home with Monica and her family.     Dublin came into rescue with fleas, and the only medical he had was a rabies shot.    He desperately needed help, and PVPC was able to give it to him because of Monica's offer to help and all the generous donations that made his care possible.   Monica said that she loves watching dog shows where the Peke wins-- but all those dogs have someone to love them already.    The beautiful Pekes make her smile-- but all the others, "pet grade" Pekes who don't have ribbons or trophies need a chance to win at life-- and that's why she is fostering Dublin.  She wants him to win!

 Dublin had to wait three months to be neutered after his back surgery.    Look at that face.   

 He rested a lot after his surgery, but he couldn't wait to get back to his friends.

TEDDY BEAR, THOR, AND THEO

 Henry Teddy Bear is having a wonderful holiday at his new home.

 He is so cherished there.    His mom loves the seniors and knows they can be so special.    They may not have as many years to give us, but they have plenty of heart and love.

 Thor is Teddy Bear's brother-- what a beauty!

 I think Teddy Bear was sleeping-- or maybe he was praying for a great Christmas for everyone.

MERRY CHRISTMAS FROM CHLOE

Chloe's mom sent this picture.    She was wishing Jeanne and me a Merry Christmas.  We know Chloe had a wonderful Christmas!!    Her mom said she is the most loved China Doll ever!!     I know Chloe thinks so!

PESHA AT CHRISTMAS

 Pesha came into rescue in October after her owner died.  No one in the family was able to keep her, but they reached out to us to see if we could find her a home.  They did not want her to go to a shelter.

 She went to a home in Richmond for fostering and was there with Sasha.   

 Pesha is nine years old and has many years to enjoy Christmas with her new family.    I love your Christmas neck decoration.

 You are such a pretty girl!

MERRY CHRISTMAS FROM DESI AND FRIENDS

 Desi is our holiday girl and I love to post pictures  her mom sends me.   Her mom is our Roanoke vet and she's awesome!!  (Harris Animal Hospital, Roanoke, VA).   Desi decided she would let me post her sibling (fosters included) before I showed her pictures.   This is Alastor-- he came into rescue and had almost no chance of survival.  Look at him now!    He has a bad heart murmur, but he was able to have a dental and after that, he gained 2-3 pounds!    He could finally eat without pain.  

 Cassidy wasn't even in the photo shoot, but hey, he wanted a turn and jumped right up for a picture.  You're beautiful!  Or should I say  handsome.

 Oh, there you are, Desi.    I love your outfit, bows and all the berries around you.   You are such a pretty girl.

 Dollar is very festive, too.  Are you going for a sled ride?

 I love the tilt of your head!   Does that mean you like that idea-- is there any snow there to go sledding?  I'm sure your dad will take you if there is.

Pretty Fiona has some of the same mobility problems as my Cranberry, but it doesn't stop her joy-- she is a great little girl.  She's a permanent foster there.

 Oh, Desi, you've changed your outfit.     I know you have a wardrobe full of dresses and your dad had to put in another rod just to hold your clothes.  Are they organized by season and holidays?

 You are so used to modeling for your mom.
