NALA UPDATE

 Nala and her sister, BeeBee came into rescue in January after their owner turned them into a shelter.

 They were the sweetest, most playful pair I've ever seen.  They both had severe seizures and they both had IMHA.    BeeBee lost the battle with IMHA on August 10.   

Sometimes, Nala will lay next to Kai Kai.  Last night, I woke up with them both beside me, and they were side by side.  Nala likes the comfort of being with another dog.   (But, she loves me and I'm her person.)

Her battle with IMHA has continued and it's been rough. 

She curls up with Kai Kai on the couch to rest.   She doesn't have the energy to play as much. 

We went to the vet yesterday. 

Minnie went, too.  She likes to be with people, so I let her come along.

So did Kai Kai.  (He's 13 and I wanted to see how his heart was-- and it's GREAT!  Maybe a little slow, but nothing wrong with it.💙) 

We went into the room-- Kai Kai and Minnie sat in the stroller while Dr. Meador checked out Nala.

She wanted me to sit on the floor with her, so of course, I did.   She was checked out and her skin and foot checked.  Those were a concern, especially after her sister, BeeBee had the serious foot issue.   Nala has also been losing a lot of her hair due to Cushing's Syndrome which is a result of the meds she has been on for the IMHA.   She has gained weight and has "pred belly."  She has lost muscle mass.   Her skin is sloughing off.  Her skin is "thin."  These are all side effects of the meds and IMHA.   So many dogs do not beat this disease, but we are still fighting.   Her red blood count has gone up and down, up and down.  A month ago it was 42.  Then it dropped to 35.  Last week it was 26, yesterday it was 29.   We have been weaning her off the meds because, even though they saved her life, they are now detrimental to her health.   There is another med she can go on if she can't be without the prednisone, but for now, it's hurting her.   This little girl is a fighter and I love her.   She is a little warrior.   So, we will keep up the fight!

I told her I was writing a story about her-- so she looked over the top of the computer to give me ideas. 

She and Kai Kai decided to take a nap while I was writing, but she still had her pink purse in her mouth.   Keep praying for this precious girl that I've had the blessing to have in my life. 💗 I love her.

HARRISON AND MR. ROONEY (ANDY)

Harrison came to us in January of 2017.   He wasn't a young one and had been in a vet for four months after his owner died.  He was turned over to a shelter when no one came for him or wanted to continue his care at the vet. 

He was a "cranky old man" and he just needed time to get the kinks worked out-- over 4 months without a lot of moving around can cause a lot of stiff muscles.

We had an application for him within a month!   I love those people who want the older ones, the timid ones-- the ones that others don't apply for.

Harrison is about 12 now, and you can see he's come a long way-- lounging in comfort, loved by his mom and dad.

He heard they volunteered to take in a foster-- Andy, now Mr. Rooney.  He was adopted by them within two weeks. :-)  I love that!

Mr. Rooney and Harrison are now brothers and love their wagon rides together. 

Mr. Rooney/Andy doesn't want to be in charge.   He was so timid after going through a hard year (his owners died and then the second owner died within a year).   He has settled in and is going to stay right there.  (I always wanted to just kiss his face!  It's so cute!)

Harrison is okay with that.  He's used to having a buddy now.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO GUS AND MY SISTER!

 Gus, a Peke who we have all come to love, turned 12 this week-end!  He looks great and is the light of his mom's life.

 My sister, who is just a year older (we were raised like twins), is having a big birthday today!   (Yes, that will be me next year!)

 My sister lives in Vermont, but I want to wish her a wonderful day!  I hope we can celebrate if she can stop by here next month on her way to Florida.   💜  She really stops by to see all the grandbits, who she adores. 🌝

So, Happy Sunday and Happy Birthday!!!

PENNY GIRL

 I posted on facebook awhile back about a dog my daughter found on her way to work.   She could not let it run in the road and be hit-- so she picked it up.  (She seems to be a magnet for lost dogs-- she rescued Mattie.)

 My daughter called her sister, needing help (since she was on her way to work).   So, the dog went to my other daughter.  I contacted the shelter in that area, with a picture and location.   We looked on lost dog sites.  No one came forward.

She was so sweet and a vet checked her.  No microchip.  She was probably one or two and had already had puppies.  

 A friend of my daughter's had an older Dachshund named Harley.

 Harley was NOT happy at first, but now they are great friends! 

 Penny, as she was named, is perfect.  She was just spayed and microchipped and has a collar with a tag on it. 

 She loves her new family.

She is now right at home.  💜

SPARKY

 Sparky (formerly Shelby) was one of Jeanne's long term fosters.   When Jeanne got sick, Sparky went to live with Jeanne's vet/wife, her long time friends.   Charee and Rich loved Sparky.   Sparky has been there two years now.   When they got ready to take a trip to the beach, she was ready!   (They all rode in their crates for safety.)

 Nicky, Tinsley (the ruby one) and Sparky were all ready to stop for the night.  They checked out the suite at the hotel.  Of course, it had to have their approval.

 They took a walk in Cat Rock Park, near Boston.   Sparky was six pounds when they got her, and she's a whopping 8 pounds now.  BIG GIRL!  💜

 On the trip, she met her "cousins" and did great with them all, big and small.  Of course, Sparky (the smallest) thought she was the biggest.

 Sparky let her parents take her and her siblings to Cape Cod.  She loved to sit in the shade under the tent.   She loves the beach!

At the beach, walk time meant "ride time" for Sparky.   She can't walk well, so she rides instead.   Her nick name is The Queen Bee. 😉

Sparky enjoys everything!  She's fearless.   She loves to go in the ocean with her mom holding her, her little feet paddling away.   She is 14-15 years old now.  She's still supremely confident and loves her adventures.  When it was time to pack and go home, she was ready.  A big bed for a nap was just the thing to get ready for the journey home.   🚗

SHEENA AKA SYDNIE -- WELCOME!!

Sheena, now Sydnie, was in a local shelter.  Her owner had died.

In the shelter, she was known as "fractious."  😟

Pekingese don't do well in shelters.  They are used to being in control, being loved, not being in a cage.   She was really scared!

It took weeks to get her out of the shelter because of the law.   So, we waited and hoped we would get her.  We felt like we won the lottery!!   I immediately took her to my wonderful vet and they kept her there for tests and a good clean. 

I tried to take a lot of pictures of her-- because that's what I do LOL-- and she kept licking my phone.  No selfies for her!

She had a bad bladder infection-- poor girl!   She had an upper respiratory infection and needed nebulizing treatments.  So, we had to leave her there.  She stayed about 5 days and then...

We were able to get her to her foster home.   She was so excited!

She met her foster mom's "Drill Bit."  She loved everyone.

She needs to be spayed and have a dental.  We can do that.

She feels safe now.  She has comfy beds, and good food, and a happy place.

Did I say happy?

We think Sydnie is about 8, but we're not sure.  She is a loving, sweet girl.  She has always been around other dogs, but is more interested in people.  (More info to come on if she likes to play with other dogs.)  If you are interested in adopting her after her medical is done, please go to this link:
