KYDEN GOES TO THE FARM/HAPPY ANNIVERSARY JEANNE!

Kyden/Kai Kai went to the farm this week-end. The farm is where my daughter and three of the Bits live. BUT, FIRST.....

We want to wish Jeanne and Bill happy anniversary!!! Thirteen years! YIPPEE. :-) Drill Bit wanted to say Happy Anniversary, too. Jeanne loves Drill Bit!

Kai was looking out at the pasture where there are three horses. He wasn't too sure about them. His "brother" Scooter kept going under the fence, but Kai was wise enough to stay on our side of it.

The horses weren't too concerned. Scooter was not a threat.

But, Kai thought he's stay on our side anyway.

Kai Kai got to meet a Guinea Hen. He was really good.

He just didn't know what they were.

Drill Bit was telling him they were not going to hurt him.

The chickens were trying to get away from Kai, though. When Kai saw the chicken wandering around, he broke free of the hold one of the Bits had on his leash and chased the chicken around the car.

So, the chicken jumped IN the car. And Kai stopped when I told him to stop. What a good boy he is!

He still wanted to know what they were--running around like crazy!

He was happy there and he and Max (and Scooter and Cranberry and Starlight) had lots of walks. And Kai slept all the way home-- and was glad to back to his own yard. But, he had a great time at the farm!

HAPPY EASTER

When Desi was on my St. Patrick's Day blog, she saw it and realized how photogenic she was. So, she decided she should send me more pictures. She is also very excited and informing her fan club how famous she is-- several blogs already! She is offering to sign pawtographs for them, too. Her mom is afraid all this fame is going to Desi's head! :-)

Desi thinks she should pursue a career in modeling, as long as she can get paid with dog treats.

She looks beautiful with her necklace on and special outfit. I can see why she would be a great little Peke model.

She modeled a bunny outfit and was a little less than impressed with it. Look at that face. :-)

She's being a very good sport about it though.

Can you see out from the hood? She would rather wear her dresses. She will keep them on all day. Her mom is such a great owner!! (And she's a vet who has helped us with some of our Pekes in Roanoke.)

Here is her Lhasa-poo brother, Cassidy. He didn't like Desi's bunny outfit very much. I don't think he wants to wear any outfits.

And here is her Chikingese brother, Kipper in the basket. They all want to wish you all a Happy Easter!

HANNAH

I want to extend my deepest sympathy to my Peke friend, Monica. She adopted Trevor and Bianca/Phoebe from us. One of her Pekes, Maxxie/Max died this week. He is the beautiful black and white one in the picture. Maggie (adopted by her mom) is in the background.

Here is Maggie with Max-- two very loved Pekes. I'm so sorry about your loss, Monica. Rest in peace, sweet Maxxie.

HANNAH

We just took in this little beauty! Her name is Hannah and she is only two years old. She was an owner turn in.

Hannah was checking things out in every direction. What's on the ground, little one?

Hannah is good with people and other dogs, but she's not crazy about cats-- or maybe she just wants to chase them to play.

She loves to cuddle. And I think she likes to sit in the sunshine and feel the breeze blowing on her face.

There must be scents in the air because she looks like she smells something good.

She's only 14 pounds and her foster parents say she is a sweetheart.

She is very mellow and loves just to be held. Sounds like a perfect little dog to me.

If you're interested in adopting Hannah, just email potomacpekes@gmail.com

HOW PRINCESS MET HER MOM

One of our adopted rescue dogs, Kiki, died this week. She was the center of her mom's world. She was only eight years old, but had serious heart issues. I don't have a picture, but we know we'll remember her sweet spirit. Rest in peace, sweet Kiki.
+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
I asked how some of you met your dogs. Ann sent me her story. She met Princess about seven years ago. She had waited over a year after her precious Shih Tzu Nino passed away. Sometimes, our heart isn't ready for another. But, what we realize, is that the heart is big enough to love again, to love more than one. It's a tribute to the love we had for the dog we no longer have.

Ann's father had had Pekingese in Vietnam and Ann decided to look for a Pekingese to join her family. Shih Tzus and Pekingese are "cousins." Ann was looking for one that could "go for long walks and liked to fetch til the cows came home." After looking for awhile, she hadn't found anything and just decided to wait.

One Saturday aftenoon, she decided to stop at the local animal shelter. Chances of a Pekingese being there were slim, she though, but she went anyway. It was a busy day at the shelter, but Ann managed to work her way around all the people. Then, she saw her-- a little blond Pekingese. She called the Peke to her, but she was nervous, and trying to give little tail wags. She called her parents, and they were able to visit with the Peke in a room. There had been other applications for her, but they all fell through. With fingers crossed, Ann waited to see if they would be approved and two weeks later, they found out that Princess would be there forever. It was Ann's 21st birthday-- what a gift and special day that was. HOW DID YOU MEET YOUR PEKINGESE?

JEANNE'S GARDEN

Jeanne sent me pictures of her garden. I love this picture of Jeanne and DiDi, and I'm sure this is what Jeanne does each day before working in her special yard. I've done blogs on her yard before. It's so beautiful in bloom and many visitors come to see it.

This is a Clematis, and "wall art." There are unexpected things all through the garden.

Now, would you expect to see a flying pig there? I wouldn't-- but it's there!

This beautiful plant is Otto Luyaken Laurels. The cat is guarding it. I always call Jeanne to get advice on how to improve my yard, but I know I'll never be the gardener she is.

This is a Tree Peony- it's gorgeous. Will it continue to bloom all summer, Jeanne?

Kari (Kira) was returned to rescue because her new owners realized they didn't have time for her.

She went out on to the deck and sat with DiDi to help direct Jeanne as she worked. I'm sure the two girls were full of ideas.

The Japanese Red Maple was fine where it was, they both decided.

And they both thought the White Tree Peony was wonderful. I can't wait to see more pictures of the garden-- or better yet, to see it in person!

ELVIS UPDATE

Elvis came into rescue in February and had to have surgery to remove a "tumor" which turned out to be over a pound of debris in his stomach. He was eating anything he could to stay alive.

Look at him now! He is doing so well and is ready for adoption. He has gained two much needed pounds and is a happy little boy.

He sees well enough to get around (he had untreated dry eye for years, but now his eyes are doing great). He looks like he wants to know what you are up to!

His hair is coming in and he's a special little dog. I'm so glad he came into rescue to have a chance for a wonderful life.
Click here: An Essential Spice for Dogs and Humans to Share I read this article that says that cinnamon is a good spice for dogs and humans alike. If you have ever tried this, let me know!

COOPER or GRACIE, PEKINGESE?

A fellow rescue group was asked to help this male Pekingese. He was in horrible condition, filthy and matted. They named him Cooper.
So, they took him to the vet and had him cleaned up, and........'he' was a 'she'!!! So, they renamed her Gracie. She was so matted, it was not possible to even tell whether it was a girl or a boy.
You can sure tell she's a little girl now! She was exhausted after her day of beauty.
But, she took time to pose for some pictures before going to bed for the night. Oh, she's not a Pekingese, she's a Shih-Tzu. The things we find out in rescue!! :-)
