FAREWELL POTOMAC VALLEY LOUIE

Potomac Valley Louie was just a puppy when he came into rescue.
He came to us in July 2011.   He was 9 months old.
He had been hit by a car and his eyes were severely injured.
His owners couldn't afford to help him and took him to a shelter.
He had to have both eyes removed, but he was young and he adjusted wonderfully.
His smell and hearing took over and he had years of adventures when he was adopted by a very special new mom.
He went to the beach, and camping, and so many other places.   His mom had him with her whenever she could.
Potomac Valley Louie was 13 when he passed away recently.   I was so sad to hear about it.
He was a very special boy.
Run free, beautiful boy.   You were loved by so many.  💙

HAVING A FRIEND

FRIENDS
Some dogs don't want or need a friend.  They want to be an only dog-- and that's okay.   But Cinnamon and Paddington aren't those dogs.
Louie and Lady aren't either.   They want a friend.
Paddington is absolutely dependent on Piper-- I think Piper was a year old when Paddington came as a puppy-- so Paddington thinks Piper is his dad.   And Piper sometimes bosses him just like he's his dad.
Chello and Symphony-- Chello needs Symphony.  Symphony is perfectly content being on her mom's lap, and she doesn't need Chello as much as he needs her.
Zoe, the little dog in TJ Maxx wanted to be Snow Pea's friend.  She tried to climb out of her cart.   I think she has a sister at home, so that's great.
Sometimes, any friend will do-- Paddington adores this large stuffed dog.
He will sometimes grab it and carry it outside.   I'm so glad it's washable!
I guess Cinnamon couldn't resist and came close.    Doggy friends are the best.

PEKINGESE ONLY?

Snow Pea is whispering to Paddington.

I hear another dog is coming.   And it's not a Peke!   I thought this house was only for Pekes.  Oh wait, I'M NOT A PEKE.
Paddington says, "Who is coming?"
Toasty said, "He could come to my house."   After all, it's my cousin.
Barty is my grand dog.   He's lived with me before but went back to my daughter when she moved closer to her job.
She's on a trip, so Barty, aka Lord Bartington of Snackington, came here.  Paddington checked him out.
Cinnamon greeted him and welcomed him.
Paddington kept checking him out.   Uh Oh.
Meeting in the yard is easier.

Paddington will probably be a pill.  I hope not.
Barty is settling in.
I think he'll be just fine.

SNOW PEA—PENDING

SNOW PEA
Snow Pea-- what can I say about this little girl.  She is just precious.   All 12 pounds of her.   You can see she's not a Peke-- I think she is Maltese-ShihTzu.
She was so injured when she came to us that I thought she might lose her leg.  But, with incredible care at my vet clinic, she didn't lose it and she rarely even limps on it now.
When she first came, she slept and slept and slept.   After being on her own, she just needed time to decompress.  Then, she began coming out more to be with us and the other dogs.
She climbed up the ramp to the couch to be on my lap, or next to me.    She would go to Matt and put her feet on his leg to be picked up.  (We always did.)
Snow Pea would rest her head on me.  She felt safe and loved.
Snow Pea must have been lost for a while, but I think she had been loved at some point.   And she will now be loved the rest of her life.
When you are a foster mom, you have the chance to deeply love them.  And they learn to love you back.   And then, when they are well, you know you will be letting them go.  And that's what I'll be doing this Saturday.   My heart is a little heavy.   Snow Pea has come so far while with me.   I have watched her journey and her sweet, precious demeanor.
I know her new mom will stay in touch with me.  We have been messaging a lot already as Snow Pea has been healing.   I will really miss her-- but I know I'll then have a spot to help another.  We never know when another will need us to help them heal like Snow Pea has done.
I LOVE YOU SNOW PEA
🥰

MUFFIE-- SWEETEST GIRL

Muffie came into rescue in 2022.   She was turned into a Maryland shelter and was in rough shape.   They asked if we would take her.   They thought she was about 11 years old.
Toni fostered her in Virginia.   Muffie was about 8 pounds, and she had a horrible mouth and mammary tumors.
She needed a specialist to do her dental since her mouth needed extra care.
Muffie had surgery for the mammary tumors and then she had stenotic nares surgery which really helped her to breathe easier.
Her foster mom cared for her so well after each surgery-- and decided she wanted to adopt her.
I was so happy for Muffie.    It was the best home.  Her mom said she was the sweetest Peke.
Muffie has doggy friends in her home and is dearly loved.   Muffie is about 13 now and we hope she has many more years of love with her mom.  💖

FAREWELL MELROSE

Melrose came into rescue in 2015.   He came in with two others.   We don't think any were kept inside because they were very hesitant to come in.
Melrose was in a foster home in Richmond.   He began to gather toys into a pile.  His foster mom called him "Mel-Nosey."
Her foster mom/adoptive mom and dad decided he was home and they adopted him.
Melrose became friends with Charley, his new sister.  He became friends with so many who were fostered or adopted into his home.
He settled into his new life of love.   He was a very curious boy.
Melrose loved watching his mom and dad-- he thought they were great entertainment.
Melrose celebrated his 17th birthday last October.  He was getting older but was still going strong.
Recently he began to rest more.   His eating slowed down.   In a short time, he became "older."
He slept a lot.    Melrose left at his own time, in his sleep.   He was in his bed in his special home.
He was with his family over 9 years.   They will miss him so much.   Run free and find your friends, Melrose.   You take so much love with you.  💙
