DANIEL MAKES A TRIP

Daniel came into rescue from the shelter where he had been a stray.  

His eyes were a little “off” so he saw the ophthalmologist.   He doesn’t have much sight in his right eye but he can see w his left eye.  His eyes just don’t work together.  He occasionally runs into things.  The ophthalmologist thinks he was born this way and has adapted very well.  

He’s only about two years old.  

He had a bladder infection (so many do). But he is on medication and doing better. 

Yesterday, I took him to a new foster home.  He was in a temporary one.  He got there and immediately peed on his foster dad. 😳. Oh my.  

He will have a lot of attention.  Two adults and a high school boy to be w him.  

Yes, I think he’s going to like it there. ❤️
 

PEKES AND JOBS

I shared a video yesterday of Bogie helping w the laundry.  

He was so helpful and he sat on the bedspread as I pulled it to the laundry room. 

Granger’s job—in addition to keeping up w Tuk Tuk— is searching for critters in the yard.  This may require extensive excavation but he’s up for the job!  

Tuk Tuk is still a baby but he’s learning to help w the dishes.  

 He can clean plates, too.  Good job, Tuk Tuk!  He’s training early. 🤣

VET DAYS.

This week is full of appointments.   Paddington had an appointment w an orthopedic surgeon.  

Zoey went along.  She loves to be with me and is SO attached to me. She is content if she’s close. 

Paddington was very nervous without Piper.  But, I think he would have been nervous anyway.  

He has a patella (knee) completely out of place.  We are exploring surgery options.   It’s a very complicated surgery for many reasons.   We are getting several opinions and will have to make a decision for or against surgery.   It’s not easy because of risks and percentage of failure of the type of surgery that he needs.  

Bogie hasn’t felt well.  He’s eating less.  We have done some tests and will do a blood panel today.   We have changed his food to help him.  It’s hard to see them not feeling well. 

Sissy and Minnie were there, too, for that appointment.  They both have continuing ear issues.  More treatment and cultures.  Sissy is now on a new food to see if allergies are part of this.  Her ears are like cauliflower ears because of long term infections w no treatment.  

She’s still happy to get attention.   She’s my girl.  This has been quite a week.  And later today, we have rechecks at the ophthalmologist.    Tomorrow I am doing transport.   

This weekend, I’ll take some time to breathe.  For now, one step at a time taking care of these precious little ones.  ❤️

GRANGER AND TUK TUK-- COME TO OUR PICNIC

Granger and Tuk Tuk-- double lick!  Tuk Tuk is growing!

They were conversing-- who is going to the picnic?   They wonder! 

He pondered this big picnic question on his mom's lap.  

That's after he ran through the wet grass full of morning dew.   He's a mess!  

Tuk Tuk is hoping for a GREAT picnic.   Hope to see you there!

ATTENDEES MUST HAVE RECEIVED A COVID VACCINE,  on the honor system.

Time:  10:00am Registration

Registration:  Adults 16 years and up $15 per person; Children 6 - 15 years $10 per person; under 6 years free. Payment will be on site, cash or check.

Lunch:  Assorted Subway boxes will be served at 12 noon and beverages will be provided, as well.

Raffle:  Raffle tickets will be given at registration (which will replace the silent auction this year).

People can bring their own table and chairs, if they wish to have a more distance setting, in lieu of the tables in the shelter.   All dogs must be accompanied by a leash.

DAISY—SO PEACEFUL

Blondee aka Daisy loves her new life. 

Daisy was part of the Potomac Six group.   

At first, she wanted nothing except to hide.  She was so scared.  

She (and the rest) didn't know what grass was, and it was normal to just pee and poop inside.

But, in the last 8-9 months, she has learned that grass is nice.  She loves to hang out on the porch when her family is outside.  Of course, she has her own personal fan.  

Daisy used to be afraid and timid.   Everything was scary-- but not now.   

She went from hiding to snuggling.   She knows what loves is all about.  That's rescue!  💜

MATTIE—FOUR YEARS

Four years ago, my daughter went to a branch of her bank.  It was one she NEVER goes to.  But, that day she did.   And outside was a dog crate with a Pekingese in it.   How odd.   She went in the bank to ask if it was someone's dog.  No one knew about it, so she put the crate and dog in her car.  (We later found the owner, who was desperate for help-- and this was the only way she knew to help her dog.   It was a very sad story, but Mattie was saved.   We hope her owner was, too.)  

Mattie was dirty and matted, but she was safe.   My daughter is a dog magnet for dogs in need.  I'm so glad she found Mattie.   We called her Mattie of the Flying Ears. 

She definitely needed help.    Look at her then...

and later.    She was adopted to a wonderful home.   We were so tempted to keep her, because she was perfect.  

She is such a happy, loving dog.  

She guards the door.   

She was adopted with Benjamin "Benny'-- this is one of my favorite pictures.   Benny was blind, but he was "watching" me paint.  He really wanted to help.

Benjamin died a few years ago, two years after he was adopted.   Oh, the love he knew for those two years. 

Gracie joined the family after her owner could no longer care for her.   Gracie still has a friend.

Mattie was truly a miracle save.  Found and rescued by PVPC, and on to a loving home.   

We are rescue! 💜

WELCOME TO RESCUE FEY

FEY

I told you about the little dog we were getting.  Well, we have her.   She went to her foster home in NC yesterday where she can settle down and realize she's safe.   She was found on July 4.  (She was found by someone who knew me from a vet we shared several years ago.  So, she contacted me.  How "odd" is that-- that a Peke is found in another area and the person knows me.   We are grateful!   Of all the porches that the Peke could have wandered to, in a storm, she picked this porch.   She was kept safe and cared for.  She has been named Fey.  Melissa, who found her, said she was the dirtiest dog she's ever seen.  She washed her three times.  She's clean now.  💜   She needs to be shaved/cut down to remove the matting, but that will be taken care of.   We're just grateful for the care she was given in Melissa's loving home.

Fey has discovered the tent from Freddie's Finds and has claimed it as her hidey hole/safe spot.   She will settle in.  She has a vet appointment on Wednesday to check her out and do the bloodwork, etc, that we do on every new foster.   The more we know about them, the more we can help them.
