BLONDEE/DAISY’S SECOND HEARTWORM TREATMENT

Daisy has come so far since she came into rescue.
She sleeps in security.
She was matted and dirty when I picked her up in North Carolina.
But, she still was so sweet.
She wanted to be loved.
She went to a friend's home for fostering and..
She loved it there.
She loves their five year old-- some Pekes are good with children (but we never assume they are-- most don't have the patience for children).
Daisy began to know what security and love was.
She was curious.
She was silly.
Her hair had been cut short due to matting, but it's growing out now.
"Do you want to be my friend?"

She now knows soft blankets, and ..
adorable outfits.  Okay, so she wasn't crazy about the hood.  LOL
After heartworm treatment, it's critical to keep them quiet.   You may wonder why-- The treatment kills the heartworms that are in the heart.  Literally.   And they begin to move out and be eliminated.  We don't want the heart to beat too fast or too many of them will move out at once-- and this can cause a clot.  A heartworm clot.  It's very dangerous.   So, after the two month treatment, another 6-8 weeks has to be spent quietly.  No running.  No zoomies.  No rough playing that might get the heart beating quickly.   It seems "cruel" to keep them confined.  But, it's absolutely necessary so that they can live a long time.
Daisy spent a few days here so her foster parents (who will be her permanent parents) could go out of town.   She sat on my lap while I worked at my computer.  It kept her quiet and she loved it.  So did I.  😊  She will have another heartworm test in a month to see if the treatment worked-- and we fully expect that it will have.   Daisy is only about 4 or 5 and we expect her to have a long and happy life.  💖

Daisy is precious and special because she came to Potomac Pekingese Rescue and under the loving care of Linda and her fellow rescuers and fosters.
