Where Do Dogs Sleep

Where do your dogs sleep? At my house, we have a variety of beds and open crates they can choose from. And sometimes, they choose the crate. It's like a little hidey-hold for them. Maggie is totally content to be in there.
She also likes to sleep behind the bathroom door!

Or on my bed!

And Miss Cranberry-- also known as Cranny, Cranky-Berry-- sometimes sleeps UNDER the bed.

Max prefers UNDER the dresser.

But, Scooter found the laundry basket that was empty and ready to go downstairs. He is already half asleep! It's like another hidey-hole, and Pekes do seem to like those little enclosed spaces.

Scooter also likes the dog pillow under the inversion table. (I keep thinking that inversion table will make me taller!)

Starlight likes the big fluffy pillow-- and lots of toys!

Lisa sent me some new pictures of Maxwell and Tyler. She said all the boys got their summer cuts this week, and then they celebrated by getting all cuddley-face on the couch.

She said, "I'm mad at them today. They stole a whole box of French fries off an end table when I wasn't watching. Maxwell obviously thought he wasn't allergic to them!!" Maxwell has a lot of allergies! But, sometimes, he just can't help himself!! He HAD to have something that's not on his special diet. I'm with him-- I would have stolen the french fries, too.

Kenny, Foster Dog

This is Kenny. He is pretty new to rescue. His owner died, and she obviously loved this dog a great deal. His foster mom says he is the perfect Peke!!
Kenny has such unusual, beautiful markings. He is about 15 pounds and housetrained (WOW, I love the ones who come to rescue housetrained!!). He loves his foster brothers and sisters, and isn't a bit aggressive. Can he talk to Starlight, who is at my house!?

He loves to be in the back yard with his buddies. He enjoys going along the fence line to chat with his neighbor dogs, too!

Kenny will make someone a wonderful pet. He is just looking for that home that will be the best fit for him.

Darby and the Fourth of July

I got this Fourth Of July email from Darby. I didn't get it posted but I wanted to share it now.
Dear Linda
Maddie and I had our pictures taken once again and this time we actually matched - Our moms didn't know it either - we DID NOT plan it that way. My sisters, Sakks and Macy, were too busy being scared of the early fireworks to get in the picture. The fireworks don't bother me and Maddie.

Well hope you and all your Peke children have a great 4th - I know I did.

LOOKING UP!

Here's Max-- he's out in the yard. On the Pekingese Pathway. He loves to pose for pictures.
So does Scooter-- he's at the end of the Pekingese Pathway in the bushes. Near the fence-- where he barks at my sister's dog, Chloe. That's right-- I live right next door to my sister!! How cool is THAT!

But, if Max or Scooter or the rest think they hear a squirrel, they MUST go search for it. If I SAY the word squirrel, they must go search for it!

Scooter is looking up in the trees. He knows the squirrel is up there.

Maggie is looking, too. She gets involved, just because the others are doing it. She's too much of a lady to do it for long though.

WOW, it must be WAY up there!

Let me get a better vantage point-- the Pekingese lounger (you thought it was my lounger, right? Wrong.) is a great place to get a little higher.

He'll go right up to the tree to look-- he knows there is a nest up there. It's empty, but a squirrel might try to hide there!

And then it's time to go back to the deck and listen for the next squirrel siting! It's a busy life.

RICKY COMES TO PLAY

Ricky was one of my foster dogs who was adopted five years ago. He lives down the street and comes for play days sometimes. He and Scooter are best friends!
Ricky and Scooter love to roam around the yard together.

Ricky is thinking of going down the steps. But, wait, maybe something else is happening on the deck.

Let me sit down here-- Hey Scooter, come on over!

Ricky is so happy to have brown Pekingese book-ends!!! Scooter on the left and Max on the right. Ricky loves being the "center of attention."

Wait, where did Scooter go? I see his tail.

Oh, there Maggie is the back, and Max looking at his ball-- the ever-present tennis ball! Ricky is trying to figure out why Max is so attached to it! I'm trying to figure out the same thing!

Ricky, you're a great dog! I love having you come visit!

TWO OF MY HEROES

Craig and Sylvia have adopted two Pekes from us-- sweet Joshua and Cocoa/Jimmy. They are incredible loving Peke owners.

A friend of theirs works at a shelter near them. Craig and Sylvia were told about a Peke who was picked up by animal control. He was picked up over July 4th week-end-- remember how fireworks can terrify a dog? (see July 4 blog)

Craig and Sylvia just knew someone was missing their sweet boy-- he was found with a leash and collar on. And his name was on a tag on his collar (but not his address, and no microchip). If he had had a microchip, his owner could have been located. If he had a city tag, or address, his owner could have been located.

He was up for adoption or release to rescue within THREE DAYS-- that's not long at all. The owner could be on vacation. So, Craig went to get the dog-- whose name was Ziggy. He was timid, and had a few knots on him, but he wasn't in bad shape. (All Pekingese have an amazing ability to get knots on them!)

A few hours later, the shelter received a call from Ziggy's owner. If anyone but Craig had picked him up and adopted him, they would not have been able to get him back. A new adopter could have said, "I'm keeping the dog." But, due to Craig and Sylvia's diligence, Ziggy is now back with his family. He's not in the shelter, he's not in a strange home, he is safe and back where he is loved.

Craig and Sylvia, you are my heroes!!!
