PEKE FOR A DAY

This is Starlight-- you all know Starlight. This bed was given to me and it looks like it was made for her! Perfect colors. But, this blog isn't about Starlight. It's about another dog......
A black, female Pit Bull. I know, I know-- this is a Peke blog, but this dog wanted to be saved and so she is "Peke for the Day."
I did not save her. My daughter did. She was on her way to my house to pick up Beach Bit. And she saw this dog almost get hit twice on a four lane road.
So, my daughter stopped. She rolled down her window, and said something to the dog. She did not expect what happened next!
This dog was so terrified and it heard a friendly voice and she JUMPED THROUGH THE OPEN WINDOW RIGHT INTO THE CAR. SHOCKER! She put her head on my daughter's lap and was shaking.
She had no collar and no microchip-- but she was well cared for and very friendly. All she did was smile and wag her tail. We called the vet and asked if we could leave her there for the night and try to find her owner. Well, the owner was found, and this dog is safely home. (The owner has just bathed the dog, and so the collar was not on. When the owner left for work-- the afternoon shift-- she left a window partially open. The dog wanted to go to work with her, I guess, because she went through the open window. So, to all of you who leave your windows open as the weather turns warmer-- please open them FROM THE TOP. Most windows will do this and childrenand dogs are safe from falling or getting out through them.) I don't know the dog's name-- what would you name her?
Okay, here's Starlight again-- I opened the blog with a Peke and closed it with a Peke. :-) I want to keep you all smiling!

JIE-LE

Jie-Li, known as Jelly, came to us from a shelter in Maryland. He is a timid, but very sweet boy of about 3 years old. His foster mom named him Jie-Le, which mean Pure Joy... That's what we want for this little boy.
A volunteer at the shelter sent me this adorable picture! How cute is he! I love when their little tongues stick out, as if there is just not enough room in their mouth for it.
Jelly appears to have been abused and will take time to trust a new owner. His foster mom said he comes and lays near her feet, desperately wanting to be close to her. He is not aggressive at all and is making little steps to realizing he is safe now.
He has a puppy cut now, and is about 15 pounds, but he needs to gain a little.
He likes to be outside on the deck-- are you squinting at the sun, Jelly?
... and checking out your new surroundings?
Denali, your Peke sister (foster mom's Peke) has become your "Scooter." If a Peke is a Scooter (named after one of my sweet Pekes), he is concerned for the new dog to feel safe, to know he has a friend, to encourage and try to be a friend. Denali and Scooter are both "Scooters." :-)
Life is going to get better and better.
There's a whole new world out there just waiting to be explored.
His foster mom said she truly doesn't believe there is a mean nor aggressive bone in his body. I love to hear that! With a little time, this Peke will make a great addition to someone's lucky family!

SPRING CLEANING PART 1

Caleb wanted to send in a blog-- I'm so glad. I love Peke blog authors!! Here's what he said:
Hi Linda, Fu Shing, here. Caleb needs to do spring cleaning and he needs your help! I'm only good at taking toys away from him, not organizing them. Please?!
What's the matter, Caleb? You look so sad!
"I am, Linda! I have to do spring cleaning and choose which toys to put away for the season. You know how much I love ALL toys."
"I'm at my wits end! You want me to do what?!" Calm down Caleb, you need to make an inventory and then get Fu to help you sort them out."
Now I know if the two of you work together, you can accomplish anything. We'll check back tomorrow and see how you did.

POLLYANNA

We took Pollyanna into rescue in 2008. I was called by a shelter near me that they had a dog who was in critical condition. I went right over.
I named her Pollyanna, because she was a little stray, only about a year old, and she needed help. At first, we thought she had burns on her back, but the vet said it could also have been brown recluse spider bites. Her foster mom took great care of her and she healed. She was adopted by Tracey and her family.
Pollyanna is the sweetest dog at Tracey's-- just full of love. There's not an aggressive bone in her body!
She gets along with dogs and people alike-- here she is with Colby (one of the Bristol 18 Peke puppies).
Kai Kai is joining Tracey's family as a foster dog. She said I told her not to fall in love with him-- but I did and I'm sure she will. Like Pollyanna, he is so sweet. And like Pollyanna, he just wants to be loved.
Tracey said her friend told her when she gets this many dogs, she's having an intervention. :-) I don't think she's close to that! Kai Kai only makes five.

AKAI--KAI KAI

Happy Birthday Charee and Monica!!! Charee is the wife of our super Richmond vet, Dr. Teague of Farmer's Vet. And Monica has fostered for us and adopted from us. HAPPY BIRTHDAY!! We just took in this beautiful boy. His name is Akai or Kai Kai. He's almost six years old and has AKC papers (but I know he was born in a puppy mill in Missouri). He is neutered and housetrained-- yippee!! I don't usually get housetrained dogs here haha.

Kai is almost 20 pounds-- but it's all sweet and mellow. He just wants to lay near me, on the floor or on the couch next to me. He will sometimes carry a toy around in his mouth and wag his tail.
Kai Kai is totally NOT an alpha dog-- not a mean bone in him. He doesn't mind the other dogs here at all. My Cranberry let him know she was the boss and he said "Yes, Mam!"
Kai Kai is a beautiful dark red with black tips on his fur. He just wants a home to live forever in and be loved.
If you are interested in this sweet boy, just email us at potomacpekes@gmail.com. I am smitten with him-- if I could keep one more, he'd be the one! (His name on our web site will be Kyden, which means narrow little fire-- )
