OREO THE BLIND PEKE

You all know I have a soft spot for the senior and special need Pekes.  Some are that way because of health issues.  Some are that way because of neglect or abuse.  Oreo above, was sorely neglected.

My Kai Kai lost his vision due to glaucoma, cataracts, and he's still my spoiled boy.

Oreo was dropped off at a shelter and was underweight and had eyes in bad condition.

His eyes could not be saved, so like my Kai Kai, both were removed.

Oreo is about 6-7 now and like most dogs, he has rallied to his new life's situation.  His hearing is fine, and that overcomes a lot.  A loving, patient owner is the biggest part of this adjustment.

Oreo has a fabulous home and is the sweetest, most patient boy you could meet.   Being part of the Blind Dog Club isn't a chosen membership-- but these dogs show the tremendous ability of dogs to overcome adversity and rise above it.  Kai Kai and Oreo are great examples of little beautiful dogs who have done this.   Oreo, tell your mom to give you a hug from me and Kai Kai!!

SOPHIE-- SHREDDED!

Sophie was my foster girl and she has the BEST home now.  She's blind, but you would never know it.  She was probably born this way, so it's her normal.  She does find time to get into trouble though.  How can they do that when they can't see-- no problem!!   I think you made a big mess, Miss Sophie.

She has one small eye and a "regular eye" but is non visual in both.  Her world is just fine.   I found this poem on blind dogs-- they do just fine.  They do better than we would do.   So, don't feel sorry for Sophie-- or my Kai Kai.  They world is full of comfort, snuggles, good food and lots of love!

"Welcome To My World"

I live in a world of darkness as you all know,
But please do not feel sorrow or woe,
Although this thing I have is called blind,
I can see all that you do in my mind.

She takes me for miles of walks,
And as we make our way she just talks,
Of all the wonders that are alive,
So that as I trot along I can see and thrive.

I know the grasses are soft and lush,
Even hear the singing song thrush,
She often says "hey Lily what would be your wish"
I have it, I can swim just like a fish.

Life is for living is what she always says,
And I do, I fill my heart with warm summer days,
Dancing and prancing just having fun,
All because of a person called "mum".

As we make our way through the lush grasses for home,
I bounce and dance as I freely run and roam,
Often I will hear the old trees groan and creak,
And no-more do I hear folk call me a freak.

It was sometimes hard but I have proved,
That even the hardest folk can be moved,
To see me stand ten feet tall,
As I listen and come to her funny old call.

So you see darkness might be all I see,
But I am "Lily" blind and free,
To just go out there and try,
Living my dream and reaching the sky.

DUKE AND OREO

 Duke came into rescue in February.  We do not feel he came from a very kind home-- so we weren't sure how trusting he would be.

 Once he felt safe, he became very loving.   Here he is curled up on a lap.  He LOVES it.

 Oreo had been adopted, but there was a personality conflict for him, so he came back to us.

 He melted right back into his foster home and he adores his foster parents.

 He loves snuggling and ...

 belly rubs with his "sister."

 Oreo even let a friend hold him.   He does not trust everyone, and we'd like to see him adopted so that he is near his foster family.

 Oreo and Duke have become such good friends and they play all day long.  They could even be adopted together.    A home near Richmond, VA would be great.   They both definitely need a playmate.

BENNETT AND LU

 Bennett and Lu (Lieutenant) came into rescue as puppies and they just turned four years old!  It's hard to believe they are already that age.   Where did the time go.

 Lu lives near me and he is a shy boy, but yesterday, I visited him and he came right to me.  Wow!    I loved it.

 I haven't seen Bennett except in pictures, but he looks like he's having a good time here.  What is it about toilet paper and Pekes? :-)

 Bennett and Lu are both big boys-- big and fluffy!!  And beautiful!

They don't come much cuter than these two!!

MAZIE-- RAP STAR!

 Mazie was adopted from us and is such a little star.

 She has helped her mom on many occasions-- she was helping with the spring garden a few years ago.   But, she has expanded her talents!  Now, she is a  rap star.  She sent me a rap song she wrote. Her talents just have no end!!   Here you go!

BUMBLES-- PERFECT IN HIS NEW HOME

 Bumbles has been in his new home for a few months and he loves it there!   I miss them when they leave, but I just smile when I see how well they are doing!

 He is so laid back that he often goes on dog training appointments with his mom.  He's perfect as a no stress dog to calm down another dog.

 He is adored by his human and doggy siblings alike.

 But, his best friend is Chance, Fia's  American Bulldog.  

 Here are his siblings (plus a visitor).   Lilly, the Chihuahua, Parker the Parson Terrier and Chance/Chancey.

 Bumbles loves the blanket that went with him.   He discovered he also likes to chew on it.

 Chance and Bumbles have begun to play together-- toy tug.

Chance likes his new little buddy and Bumbles has fit right in!!

MADDOX--READY FOR ADOPTION

  Maddox came into rescue in February, 2017.  He came from a neglectful situation and was a little timid, but he soon realized he was safe.   

 Maddox was not housetrained (he had been left outside a lot or isolated in a basement), so he wears a belly band, just in case.   He has picked up on going to the door when he needs to go out and he doing very well.   He would do best in a home where someone can let him out during the day.

 He had a dental when he was neutered and all his bloodwork showed he is in good health.  He is a seven year old beauty who is learning to play and when you get his leash out, he gets very excited.   He loves car rides, too.    He can be a little picky when he eats, but we don't know what his past was and he has improved a lot.  He looks like he is enjoying this meal.  YUM.

 Maddox has been through a lot, but he just wants a lot of love.   He loves his comfy doggy beds and is very sweet.
