FAREWELL MILO

 Milo came into rescue as a 6 month old puppy in May of 2012.   He was so cute! 

 He was in N. Virginia and Laura offered to foster him for us.  She had Mika and Luca, both PVPC alumni.   I warned her not to fall in love-- but she did.  How could anyone resist this face.

 Mika was the boss, and Luca was a sweet, laid back soul when Milo joined the family.

 Milo didn't need to be in charge so he was fine with Mika being the "Mom."

 Sir Jenkins, Jenks, joined  the family later.   He and Milo were best buddies.  Oh, Milo's face, teeth, underbite-- just so beautiful.

 Luca, his older brother, passed away last December, so I know he met Milo at the Rainbow Bridge.

 Milo had IMHA/ITP, which is Evans' Syndrome.   His disease progressed so quickly-- three weeks.   He had the very low red blood count and low platelet count and he just had nothing to fight with.   IMHA tends to come between the ages of 3 and 8, and Milo was almost 7.   Just so young. 

Those of us who had the chance to know Milo loved him, but none as much as his mom, Laura.   She is devastated by the loss of this precious boy who was so full of love and fun.   Run free, now sweet boy.  You are loved.   💙

MINNIE HELPS NALA

Minnie has only been with me less than two weeks, but she is doing great here.

 She gets along with the other dogs here.  She sleeps right next to the bed, and has a roll-around session first. 

  I took Nala to the vet for her recheck, and took Minnie with us.

When they took Nala to the back for blood test, Minnie tried to follow.

 "Where did they take her?"

 She couldn't reach the door knob. 

 "Can you help me?"

 So, she just waited.

 And waited....

And then, Nala came back and Minnie rolled over and relaxed. 

 Nala continues to get care for her IMHA and seizures, but we continue to help her try to win this battle.

They were ready to go home once the appointment was over.

Minnie was glad to be home, too.  She curled up under the bed to sleep-- and then came out to get on her pillow next to the bed.   Good job helping Nala today!!

RICKY GOES ON A VISIT

 Ricky came into rescue in April.   He needed help with his eye-- he only had one.

 He is a laid back, easy going boy and we wanted to be able to help him see.   He had cataract surgery and now has vision.  It's not perfect, but definitely better than being blind. 

 He went to visit Bella, Simon and Pickle.     Bella said, "WHO ARE YOU?  This is my house, I just want to make that clear."  LOL

 He was chill as he let the others check him out.

 He went to the groomer and had a nice hair cut along with the rest.  The hot sticky days are almost over-- but not yet.

 Bella, in front, is the boss at this house-- tiny but mighty.   Simon, by the door, is so sweet.  Pickle is in the back ground.  Hello sweet ones!

 Ricky is checking out the yard and the house.  Everything is new and fun and exciting.

But, all that does mean it's time for a nap.   I agree!  Let's all take a nap!

BERRY

 Berry (formerly just called "Peke") came to us after his owner asked for help.  She was moving out of the country.   She had him for two years, but we don't know his history before that.

 Berry is blind-- we have three blind foster dogs right now.  (Chewy, Berry and Bugsy)   My Kai Kai has no eyes and he does fine. 

 Berry is about ten years old and he has always been blind.  His eyes never formed, so he thinks his world is normal.   He is very sweet and laid back.  He is also house trained. 

Berry has a grade 3 heart murmur and needs no meds.   Heart murmurs are not unusual, and only need meds if the numbers are higher.   He's a sweet boy.  💙

WELCOME BUGSY

MEET BUGSY

 We received a plea from a man who was about to become homeless.   Would we help him?   He had a 14 year old Pekingese, Bugsy, who he desperately wanted in a safe place.   Could you say no?

 We couldn't either.   Sonia and Nikki stepped right up to help transport him.

 I met Nikki at the vet and could see that this not so little boy needed help.

 His owner had said he could not take care of him the past year, but we could step in.

 His eyes needed help and he needed to be groomed.  My vet could do all that.

 He wasn't too sure what was going on.  But, he could hear soothing voices and was soon in the back at the vet, getting the care he needed.

 Bettina has a way with dogs -- she is amazing.  After getting bloodwork, it was time to have a haircut.   He was so good!

 He had a bath, and a few vaccines (we spread them out by a few weeks).   We found out he is blind, and he's a big boy at 26 pounds.   He has arthritis, so we have started him on Dasuquin to see how he does.   He is in his foster home with Nikki (thank you!) and has a yard to roam in.  He is sniffing the grass, exploring.   His foster doggy siblings are being very good with him. 

We will set up a dental for him and he will be ready for a forever home.  If you love the old ones like I do, let us know if he can live out his life with you.

HAPPY SUNDAY!

 I want to say THANK YOU to my vet, Acredale Animal Hospital, in Virginia Beach.  They go so far above what they have to do.   They love my foster (and my own) Pekes.  They stay late if my fosters need emergency help.   They will monitor them all night if that's needed.   They are compassionate and caring.   If I'm sitting on the floor with a foster, they sit on the floor, too.   They are just incredible.

So, from all our rescue's foster dogs, and from all the Pekes at Camp Runamuck-- I say THANK YOU!

A DAY OF FUN- NOPE!

 We planned a day of fun-- go see my daughter, take Minnie and Nala with me since they need extra care.  We weren't going to be gone that long.

 First, we went to open house for Beach Bit.  I think this will be a great year for him.  His teacher is wonderful (lots of teacher of the year awards), it has a rocking chair and a reading rug.... Yes, it will be a good year.

 We were planning to visit with Granger, who was helping his mom with the dishes.

 On the way there, we heard an explosion!!   It was our back window in the van-- right next to Beach Bit's seat!  😞  We were in a construction area, and we think a passing huge truck "threw" a rock at us.  Not nice!

 Both Bits were okay and both kids were calm!  Sugar Bit wasn't even phased, which is pretty amazing.   WOW was about all she said.

 Once we got to my daughter's, we met a new dog-- she was found running a busy road by my other daughter.   No tag, no microchip.   PLEASE KEEP A TAG ON YOUR PET AND MICROCHIP THEM.   IT CAN MAKE ALL THE DIFFERENCE IN GETTING THEM HOME.

 She is young and my daughter had a perfect harness to fit her.   We contacted animal control and are watching "lost and found" in our area, but so far, no owner.   It's okay.  We'll make sure she is okay.   She won't go to the shelter.   We are doing what we need to do though.  She's a sweet dog!  And young. 

It was a long day-- we didn't go shopping as planned (school clothes), but we hung out and the Bits had a great day with their cousins.   Nala was glad to be home with her pink purse.   All in all, the day wasn't bad-- just all unexpected!  (And the window was fixed-- so we're set for another adventure!)
