It was begun by Lisa Wiehebrink who is a children book author.
She is also the executive director of Tails that Teach. She had a rescue dog named Cooper.
He is a gentle giant who showed her that rescue dogs are usually incredibly grateful to be rescued.
May 20, 2018, was the first National Rescue Dog Day. All the dogs on this post were rescued.
Tolstoy was one of our rescues. He looks like he in in jail, but he was just behind a gate so he would not jump on my granddaughter's prom dress. And yes, he would have done just that. LOL
I've had many rescue dogs here. Kai Kai was one of them. My heart boy.
Piper is still here. Not a Peke, but he thinks he is.
Some were rescued and found their permanent home here because they needed hospice care. Sissy was one.
Clara was another. I was so lucky to have her here to love and care for.
Tuk Tuk was a puppy and continues to entertain us.
Max stayed. We loved him and he lived to be almost 17.
Many stayed at my home a long time. Floyd was a permanent foster. He was a special boy. Of course, most of you knew and loved Starlight. She was such a princess.
So many special dogs-- so many rescues. They each deserve to be recognized, so please share a picture of your rescue in the comments. 💜
Lady and Louie say HAPPY RESCUE` DOG DAY!
