CRANBERRY

Thank you for all your comments on facebook on my Cranberry. Here she is when we were at my daughter's-- meeting Apollo the cat.Cranberry will be 11 in September, so I don't think she's that old.She loves the snow-- we don't get much, but she does a happy dance when we do.She must be looking for something here.Cranberry is about 7 here. I hate a short cut done on her. She never had back issues until she was was "rolled" in the yard. Three Pekes were running across and they ran right over her.She was partially paralyzed after that and of course, I took her to the vet. She went on meds and rested....She seemed to completely heal after playpen rest. She used to love to get on the furniture and curl up in the rocking chair. She can't do that anymore. She has tolerated all the foster dogs that have come through, but has maintained her queen bee position.Cranberry now has degerative disc disease (DDD). She cannot jump anymore, and wobbles when she walks. She is on meds to keep her comfortable. The difference between DDD and a spine injury is that with DDD, you want them to keep moving. You don't want them to be inactive. A spine injury requires rest, but Cranberry needs to keep her spine "remembering" how to move. So, we take little walks in the yard, I carry her on stairs, and we try to keep her feeling okay. She developed colitis from the stress of her back and is now on meds for that, too. But, she seems to be stabilizing and back to ruling the house! Thank you all for caring.

Oh Miss Coco wishes her mobile phone would reach Miss Cranberry's phone and not cost so much (oversea's calls are so $$$ for Pekingese!! ) for they could talk about their back problems , medications they take and .... talk about what they Really think of Linda and I!! LOL

* Eleven is not old for a Peke - you are still a young chick Cranberry!!

Poor Cranberry, sorry that she is struggling with several issues. She couldn't be in a better home though. Your love and care will help her heal. Wishing her comfort.

Cranberry...Keep ruling the House of Pekes as Queen Peke! I incurred permanent back and neck injuries in a car accident in 1991, so I can sympathize with your back injury. Due to inactivity, I went from 140 lbs. to 215 lbs. I now have DDD in my whole spine, and have lost 55 lbs. I started out slowly with exercising, and keeping active is the key to more ability and mobility, and a lot less pain. Listen to First Lady Michelle Obama and "Keep Moving." You are still young at age 11.
