A local shelter needed help with this one year old Peke.
The owner turned him in after refusing treatment for a "seizure" he had. She took him to the shelter instead. She just could not afford the treatment. (After reviewing his notes, we do not think it was a seizure, but think he got into something toxic and it caused a reaction-- however, Pekes are prone to seizures, so if this would make you uncomfortable, please do not apply for him.)
Dogs are not cheap. It's not just one visit a year and cheap food. They cost so much more than most people realize-- and emergencies happen. Good food, vet care, heart worm preventative, grooming... it adds up.
I went to get him-- and he was NOT happy in his cage. Oh, no, he wasn't. Most Pekes hate to be crated.
But, once he was out, all was fine. It took a few minutes to warm up to me, and then he was my best friend. A friend, and foster parents were in the area-- an amazing thing. They live three hours from me, but when I sent them a picture of this adorable boy, they said they were driving home from the beach and could meet me in 15 minutes-- it didn't take them that long! Puddle Bug (I didn't like his other name, so I renamed him with a similar sound) is 13 pounds and appears to be house trained. He is only a year old. He wants to be close to you and will cry if you are out of sight. He has to be neutered and then will be ready for adoption. (If you have no dog experience, please do not apply.) We require home and vet checks and don't place our Pekes in homes with young children.

Dogs are indeed expensive and that is a healthy dog!
I do hope Mr Puddle Bug gets a fabulous home as he is super cute .... what lovely markings Linda.
I also agree with you .... pekingese and young children are not a good mix . You know what Linda..... ANY dog with young kids are not a good mix.
You must be SO vigilant at all times and many people do not do this as it does gets soooo boring but .... so important for the dog and the child !!!
I agree with anyone who understands about mixing a dog with children present without supervision. Children don't mean harm toward an animal but unless they are taught how to handle and treat a dog. Common sense comes with age and an early start in teaching children about the dos and don'ts of handling our 4 legged little people (dogs are after all, little people).
